Abstract
"UNIDADE DE FILEIRA DE COLHEITADEIRA DE ALGODãO, PROCESSO PARA COLHER PLANTAS VERTICAIS DE ALGODãO, E, UNIDADE DE COLHEITA PARA COLHEITA DE ALGODãO". Crop picking and harvesting structure is pivotally connected to the front end of a cotton row unit carcass, adjacent to a row accommodation area. A cutter cuts the bottom portion of cotton plants displaced from the row accommodation area of the row unit. A conveyor includes a pair of opposing belts, with grip characteristics that embrace the lower portions of the cotton plant stems and move the cut plants in a generally vertical position into the row of standing plants, which are penetrating the area of row accommodation. The separate cotton plants become entangled with the row standing in front of the carcass when the conveyor moves the plants against one side of the row. The standing row with entangled plants, penetrates the row accommodation area, handle drums also located on the same side of the row as the sorting and harvesting structure, remove cotton from both, the standing row and the separate plants. Opposite belts have surfaces that enhance the grip and transport of separate plants, and rotating brushes above the cutters help to gather and keep plants upright for cutting. The pivoting connection allows the separation and harvesting structure to be adjusted to the desired lateral position for a given plant spacing and to be lifted out of the way for convenient access to areas in and around the housing, including access to the door structure the row unit. Plant pickers on the front edge of the picking and harvesting structure can be adjusted to align with the forward direction when the lateral position of the structure is adjusted for different plant spacing.
