Abstract

The stopper attaches a cap to a lip on the neck of a flask e.g. and thus effects a seal. A sealable layer forms the face of the cap which contacts the lip, whilst a circular shoulder is provided on the inside face of the stopper. The shoulder attaches the cap to a peripheral zone outside the lip, thereby permitting the use of an induction process e.g. in making the seal. - The shoulder may be shaped to provide a resilient clamping effect and is aided by a concentric rib which presses the cap onto the lip. Both the shoulder and the rib may be discontinuous, whilst the angle subtended by the lip and the zone may lie between 110 and 140 degrees. The flask mouth may be chamfered, fusion by induction is carried out after the stopper is screwed down.

Description

"Sealing method" The present invention relates to a stopper for sealing a bottle or similar container on the rim of which a sealing cap, having a sealable layer intended to come into contact with said rim, cooperates with the stopper. carry out the aforementioned waterproof seal.

Many vials or similar containers contain either liquid or semi-liquid substances or partially volatile constituents, the migration of which must be prevented from inside the bottle or container to the outside.

In addition, certain substances contained in the glass, for example soda, tend to migrate towards the outside of the glass, especially in the presence of certain constituents in particular acid, for example vinegar. It is known to mitigate the effect of these drawbacks by various methods of post-processing the glass, however the strength of the cover and consequently its sealing remain limited in time.

Lids are already frequently used which are placed on the top of the bottle or container which, by tightening the stopper, are applied in as close contact as possible with the bottle or similar container. The cap intended to be screwed onto the bottle generally has a thread for this purpose which ensures the necessary tightening.

However, it appeared that in practice, this tightening does not prevent any migration towards the outside of certain liquid, semi-liquid or volatile constituents. Insufficient tightening of the cap or untimely unscrewing during the period of sale may cause unacceptable damage to the product.

The object of the invention is to remedy these drawbacks and to prescribe a stopper of new and original design as well as its method of application which solves the problems to which it has just been alluded and which guarantees absolutely impeccable sealing.

To this end, the stopper according to the invention comprises on its internal face at least one circular shoulder which, in the closed position of the bottle or similar container, maintains the sealing cap on the external peripheral zone following the abovementioned rim for cause, by an induction treatment, eg, the sealing of said sealing cap on the aforementioned peripheral zone.

Still according to the invention, the internal face of the stopper also has an internal crown concentric with the aforementioned circular shoulder, intended to apply the aforementioned seal on the upper rim of the bottle or similar container.

The invention also relates to the method of applying the plug according to the invention.

Other details and advantages of the invention will emerge from the description which will be given below of a stopper for sealing in a particularly leaktight manner a bottle or similar container as well as its method of application, according to the invention. This description is given by way of example only and does not limit the invention. The reference notations refer to the attached figures.

Figure 1 shows in section a cap according to the invention before tightening it on a bottle on the upper rim of which is disposed a sealable seal. Figure 2 shows in section the same cap screwed onto a bottle.

The stopper 1 according to these figures is provided with an internal screw thread 2 to adapt to the external screw thread 3 formed at the upper part of a bottle 4.

Between the stopper 1 and the bottle 4 is interposed a sealable seal 5 which rests on the upper rim 6 of the bottle 4 in the state shown in FIG. 1. According to this figure, the sealable seal 5 is introduced into the flat state, but it is understood that a first initiation of the folding of the periphery of the cover 5 could be provided.

The cover 5 has on its face which comes into contact with the bottle 4 a layer 5 'of sealable material such as for example a polymer or an adhesive.

In a particularly effective embodiment, the inner face 6 of the stopper 1 has a circular shoulder 7. The circular shoulder 7 comes, when the stopper 1 is screwed on the thread 3 of the bottle 4, fold the periphery of the sealable cover 5 in the position which is shown in FIG. 2. As the stopper according to the invention can also have the characteristic of being provided internally with an internal crown 8, it will be observed that when the stopper 1 is screwed to bottom on the bottle 4, the internal crown 8 comes to bear on the sealable seal 5 at the place where it covers the upper rim 9 of the bottle 4 while the circular shoulder 7 has folded at the same time the edge of the cover 5 on what can be considered as the peripheral zone 10 immediately following the upper edge 9.

The folding by the shoulder 7 of the circular rim of the cover 5 on the peripheral zone 10 makes it possible to proceed to the next step of the sealing process, a step which is particularly essential.

Indeed, the cover being held by the circular shoulder 7 on the peripheral zone 10, as shown in Figure 2, we can subject this part of the cover to a treatment = ment by induction, for example, to cause the fusion of the outer layer 5 ′ and thus achieve complete sealing of the cover 5 on the bottle 4 while possibly allowing the internal crown 8 to act on the same cover at the location of the upper rim 9 of the bottle.

A seal of the species is integral and most completely opposes any form of migration of the contents or of a component of the bottle 4 towards the outside of this container, eg glass. No accidental or untimely unscrewing of the plug 1 can therefore have any influence on the packaging of the products contained in the bottle or similar container.

The embodiment logically relates to any closure capable of being sealed by induction. In principle, the invention also applies to containers of different shape, the closure of which is effected, for example, by snap-fastening or "twist-off" allowing the edge of any sheet assimilated to the cover 5 to be folded down on the upper rim. of the container of circular shape or not, or for example, by thread interrupted according to this process called "twist-off".

It is understood that the invention is not limited to the embodiment which has just been described and that many modifications could be made without departing from the scope of this patent application.
