Abstract
SURGICAL INSTRUMENT WITH MALLEABLE TUBING A surgical instrument (1) comprising a hollow cylindrical member (2) having a distal end, a proximal end, and a flexible region (4) along at least a part of the hollow cylindrical member (2); and a malleable tubing (3) disposed over at least an outer surface of the flexible region (4) of the hollow cylindrical member (2), the malleable tubing having a distal end and a proximal end, the proximal end of the malleable tubing attached to an outer surface of the hollow cylindrical member at a position that is distally spaced from the proximal end of the hollow cylindrical member, wherein the flexible region (4) and the malleable tubing (3) disposed over the flexible region (4) are configured to bend multiple times, the malleable tubing (3) is configured to maintain a bent orientation until the malleable tubing (3) is re-bent by a user, and the flexible region (4) of the hollow cylindrical member (2) is formed by at least one helical cut (15) made in the hollow cylindrical member (2), the at least one helical cut (15) extending around a circumference of the hollow cylindrical member (2) for an entire length of the flexible region (4).
