A blank for forming a container, including a series of five panels arranged side by side so that neighbouring panels in the series share a common parallel side; and pairs of flaps extending from opposed uncommon parallel sides of each one of said panels, wherein flaps of a fifth panel in the series of panels are arrangable to at least partially overlie respective flaps of a second panel in the series of panels when the series of panels are arranged so that neighbouring panels are substantially perpendicular with respect to each other.

WO 2013/131126 PCT/AU2013/000202 -1 A BLANK FOR FORMING A CONTAINER Technical Field of the Invention 5 The present-invention relates to a blank for forming a container, a container and a method and process for constructing a container from a blank. Background of the Invention 10 Bottle wrap packaging, for example, has previously been effected in a production line whereby most of the production steps are completed quickly by specialised machines. As shown in Figures la to 1c, packaging beer using a blank 100, for example, previously involved the steps of: 15 1. feeding the blank 100 including five adjoining rectangular panels 102a, 102b 102c, 102d, 102e into the wrap around machine (not shown) so that short edges of the adjoining panels are leading; 2. locating four six packs of beer 104 on the second horizontal panel 102b; 20 3. folding first and third panels 102a, 102c from a horizontal position towards a vertical position so that the panels 102a, 102c overlie and abut sides sections of the six packs 104; 4. folding inner flaps 106 of the first and third panels 102a, 102c so that they overlie and abut side sections of the six packs of beer 104 in the manner shown in Figure 25 lb; 5. applying layers of adhesive over outer peripheral sections of the inner flaps 106 of the first and third panels 102a, 102c; 6. applying an adhesive to the fifth panel 102e; 7. folding flaps 106 of the second and fourth panels 102b, 102d so that they overlie, 30 and are pressed against, respective sections of the inner flaps 106 of the first and third panels 102a, 102c; WO 2013/131126 PCT/AU2013/000202 8. folding the fifth panel 102e so that it overlies, and is pressed against, the first panel 102a. The above described process involves applying glue to: 5 1. the flaps 106 of the second panel 102b; 2. the flaps 106 of the fourth panel 102d; and 3. the fifth panel 102e. 10 The steps involved in applying glue slow down the production line and make the overall process expensive, time consuming and labour intensive-. It is generally desirable to reduce the amount of glue needed to securely wrap a blank around desired objects. It is also generally desirable to improve production line speeds and reduce the amount of blank area. 15 It is generally desirable to overcome or ameliorate one or more of the above mentioned difficulties, or at least provide a useful alternative. Summary of the Invention 20 In accordance with the invention, there is provided a blank for forming a container, including: (a) a series of five panels arranged side by side so that neighbouring panels in the series share a common parallel side; and (b) pairs of flaps extending from opposed uncommon parallel sides of each one of said 25 panels, wherein flaps of a fifth panel in the series of panels are arrangable to at least partially overlie respective flaps of a second panel in the series of panels when the series of panels are arranged so that neighbouring panels are substantially perpendicular with respect to each other. 30 Preferably, the flaps of the fifth panel also at least partially overlie respective flaps of a WO 2013/131126 PCT/AU2013/000202 -3 fourth panel in the series of panels when the series of panels are arranged so that neighbouring panels are substantially perpendicular with respect to each other. Preferably, flaps of a first panel in the series of panels are arrangable to at least partially 5 overlie respective flaps of a second panel in the series of panels when the series of panels are arranged so that neighbouring panels are substantially perpendicular with respect to each other. Preferably, first and fifth panels in the series of panels each form part of a top panel of the 10 container when the series of panels are arranged so that neighbouring panels are substantially perpendicular with respect to each other. In accordance with the invention, there is also provided a container for packaging one or more items, including: 15 (a) a series of five panels arranged side by side such that neighbouring panels in the series share a common parallel side and such that neighbouring panels are substantially perpendicular with respect to each other; (b) pairs of flaps extending from opposed uncommon parallel sides of each one of said panels; and 20 (c) fasteners coupling: (i) flaps of a third panel in the series of panels to respective flaps of second and fourth panels in the series of panels; (ii) flaps of a first panel in the series of panels to respective flaps of the second panel; and 25 (iii) flaps of a fifth panel in the series of panels to respective flaps of the second panel. Preferably, the container includes fasteners coupling flaps of the fifth panel to respective flaps of the fourth panel. 30 Preferably, the first and fifth panels in the series of panels each form part of a top panel of WO 2013/131126 PCT/AU2013/000202 -4 the container. Preferably, a length of the fifth panel is greater than a length of the first panel. 5 Preferably, a length of the fifth panel is greater than a width of the flaps of the fourth panel in the series of panels. In accordance with the invention there is also provided a method of constructing a container from the above described blank, including the steps of: 10 (a) folding a second panel of the series of panels so that it is substantially perpendicular to a third panel of the series of panels; (b) folding a fourth panel of the series of panels so that it is substantially perpendicular to the third panel; (c) coupling flaps of the third panel to respective flaps of the second and fourth panels; 15 (d) folding a first panel of the series of panels so that it is substantially perpendicular to the second panel; (e) coupling flaps of the first panel to respective flaps of the second panel; (f) folding a fifth panel of the series of panels so that it is substantially perpendicular to the fourth panel; and 20 (g) coupling flaps of the fifth panel to respective flaps of the second panel. Preferably, the step of coupling flaps of the fifth panel to respective flaps of the second panel also includes the step of coupling the flaps of the fifth panel to flaps of the fourth panel. 25 Preferably, the step of coupling includes the step of applying an adhesive. In accordance with the invention, there is also provided a process for constructing a container from the above-described blank, including the steps of: 30 (a) folding a second panel of the series of panels so that it is substantially perpendicular to a third panel of the series of panels; WO 2013/131126 PCT/AU2013/000202 -5 (b) folding a fourth panel of the series of panels so that it is substantially perpendicular to the third panel; (c) coupling flaps of the third panel to respective flaps of the second and fourth panels; (d) folding a first panel of the series of panels so that it is substantially perpendicular to 5 the second panel; (e) coupling flaps of the first panel to respective flaps of the second panel; (f) folding a fifth panel of the series of panels so that it is substantially perpendicular to the fourth panel; and (g) coupling flaps of the fifth panel to respective flaps of the second panel. 10 In accordance with the invention there is also provided a blank for forming a container, including: -(a) a series of five panels arranged side by side so that neighbouring panels in the series share a common parallel side; and 15 (b) pairs of flaps extending from opposed uncommon parallel sides of each one of said panels, wherein flaps of a fifth panel in the series of panels are arrangable to at least partially overlie respective flaps of a third panel in the series of panels when the series of panels are arranged so that neighbouring panels are substantially perpendicular with respect to each 20 other. Preferably, the flaps of a first panel in the series of panels are arrangable to at least partially overlie respective flaps of a third panel in the series of panels when the series of panels are arranged so that neighbouring panels are substantially perpendicular with 25 respect to each other. In accordance with the invention there is also provided a container for packaging one or more items, including: (a) a series of five panels arranged side by side such that neighbouring panels in the 30 series share a common parallel side and such that neighbouring panels are substantially perpendicular with respect to each other; WO 2013/131126 PCT/AU2013/000202 -6 (b) pairs of flaps extending from opposed uncommon parallel sides of each one of said panels; and (c) fasteners coupling: (i) flaps of the a third panel in the series of panels to respective flaps of second 5 and fourth panels in the series of panels; (ii) flaps of a first panel in the series of panels to respective flaps of the third panel; and (iii) flaps of a fifth panel in the series of panels to respective flaps of the third panel. *10 Preferably, the container includes fasteners coupling flaps of the fifth panel to respective flaps of the third panel. In accordance with the invention there is also provided a method of constructing a 15 container from the above described blank, including the steps of: (a) folding a second panel of the series of panels so that it is substantially perpendicular to a third panel of the series of panels; (b) folding a fourth panel of the series of panels so that it is substantially perpendicular to the third panel; 20 (c) coupling flaps of the third panel to respective flaps of the second and fourth panels; (d) folding a first panel of the series of panels so that it is substantially perpendicular to the second panel; (e) coupling flaps of the first panel to respective flaps of the third panel; (f) folding a fifth panel of the series of panels so that it is substantially perpendicular 25 to the fourth panel; and (g) coupling flaps of the fifth panel to respective flaps of the third panel. Preferably, said coupling includes the step of applying an adhesive. 30 In accordance with the invention there is further provided a process for constructing a container from the above described blank, including the steps of: WO 2013/131126 PCT/AU2013/000202 -7 (a) folding a second panel of the series of panels so that it is substantially perpendicular to a third panel of the series of panels; (b) folding a fourth panel of the series of panels so that it is substantially perpendicular to the third panel; 5 (c) coupling flaps of the third panel to respective flaps of the second and fourth panels; (d) folding a first panel of the series of panels so that it is substantially perpendicular to the second panel; (e) coupling flaps of the first panel to respective flaps of the third panel; (f) folding a fifth panel of the series of panels so that it is substantially perpendicular 10 to the fourth panel; and (g) coupling flaps of the fifth panel to respective flaps of the third panel. Preferably, said coupling includes the step of applying an adhesive. 15 In accordance with the invention, there is also provided a blank for forming a container, including: (a) a series of five panels arranged side by side so that neighbouring panels in the series share a common parallel side; and (b) pairs of flaps extending from opposed uncommon parallel sides of each one of said 20 panels, wherein when the series of panels are arranged so that neighbouring panels are substantially perpendicular with respect to each other: (i) flaps of the first panel overlie respective flaps of the second panel; (ii) flaps of the third panel overlie respective flaps of the second and fourth 25 panels; (iii) flaps of the fifth panel overlie respective flaps of the fourth panel; and (iv) a free end of the fifth panel at least partially overlies a free end of the first panel. 30 Preferably, first and fifth panels in the series of panels each form part of a top panel of the container when the series of panels are arranged so that neighbouring panels are WO 2013/131126 PCT/AU2013/000202 -8 substantially perpendicular with respect to each other. n accordance with the invention, there is also provided a container for packaging one or more items, including: 5 (a) a series of five panels arranged side by side such that neighbouring panels in the series share a common parallel side and such that neighbouring panels are substantially perpendicular with respect to each other; (b) pairs of flaps extending from opposed uncommon parallel sides of each one of said panels; and 10 (c) fasteners coupling: (i) flaps of the first panel overlie respective flaps of the second panel; (ii) flaps of the third panel overlie respective flaps of the second and fourth panels; (iii) flaps of the fifth panel overlie respective flaps of the fourth panel; and 15 (iv) a free end of the fifth panel at least partially overlies a free end of the first panel. In accordance with the invention, there is also provided a method of constructing a container from the above described blank, including the steps of: 20 (a) folding a second panel of the series of panels so that it is substantially perpendicular to a third panel of the series of panels; (b) folding a fourth panel of the series of panels so that it is substantially perpendicular to the third panel; (c) coupling flaps of the third panel to respective flaps of the second and fourth panels; 25 (d) folding a first panel of the series of panels so that it is substantially perpendicular to the second panel; (e) coupling flaps of the first panel to respective flaps of the second panel; (f) folding a fifth panel of the series of panels so that it is substantially perpendicular to the fourth panel; 30 (g) coupling flaps of the fifth panel to respective flaps of the fourth panel; and (h) coupling a free end of the fifth panel to an underlying free end of the first panel.
WO 2013/131126 PCT/AU2013/000202 -9 In accordance with the invention, there is also provided a process for constructing a container from the above described blank, including the steps of: (a) folding a second panel of the series of panels so that it is substantially 5 perpendicular to a third panel of the series of panels; (b) folding a fourth panel of the series of panels so that it is substantially perpendicular to the third panel; (c) coupling flaps of the third panel to respective flaps of the second and fourth panels; (d) folding a first panel of the series of panels so that it is substantially perpendicular to 10 the second panel; (e) coupling flaps of the first panel to respective flaps of the second panel; (f) folding a fifth panel of the series of panels so that it is substantially perpendicular to the fourth panel; (g) coupling flaps of the fifth panel to respective flaps of the fourth panel; 15 (h) coupling a free end of the fifth panel to an underlying free end of the first panel. Preferably, said coupling includes the step of applying an adhesive. Detailed Description of Preferred Embodiments of the Invention 15 The blank 10 shown in Figure 2 is used to construct the container 12 shown in Figure 3 by folding and gluing the blank 10 in accordance with the steps shown in Figures 4 to 6. By constructing the container 12 in this manner from the blank 10, the above-described step of gluing the fifth panel 102e to the first panel 102a (refer to prior art Figures I a to l d) is made redundant. As such, the blank 10 advantageously solves one or more of the above 20 mentioned difficulties by increasing production line speeds and by using less glue to securely construct the container. Advantageously, producing the container 12 from the blank 10 reduces downtime and increases wrap blank cost savings. The blank 10 includes a series of five parallelogram panels 14a, 14b, 14c, 14d, 14e. That 25 is, panels which have two pairs of parallel sides 16a, 16b and 18a, 18b. The series of panels 14a, 14b, 14c, 14d, 14e are arranged side by side so that neighbouring panels in the series share a common parallel side 1 8a, 18b. The blank 10 also include pairs of flaps 20a, 20b extending from opposed uncommon 30 parallel sides 16a, 16b of each one of the panels 14a, 14b, 14c, 14d, I4e. As particularly shown in Figures 4 to 6, the flaps 20a, 20b of the fifth panel 14e in the series of panels are WO 2013/131126 PCT/AU2013/000202 - 11 arrangable for coupling to respective flaps 20a, 20b of the second panel 14b in the series of panels when the series of panels are arranged in the manner shown in Figure 3 where neighbouring panels are substantially perpendicular with respect to each other. 5 The flaps 20a, 20b of the fifth panel 14e are also arrangable for coupling to respective flaps 20a, 20b of a fourth panel 14d in the series of panels when the series of panels are arranged so that neighbouring panels are substantially perpendicular with respect to each other, as shown in Figure 6. 10 The flaps 20a, 20b of a first panel 14a in the series of panels are arrangable for coupling to respective flaps 20a, 20b of the second panel 14b in the series of panels when the series of panels are arranged so that neighbouring panels are substantially perpendicular with respect to each other, as shown in Figure 6. 15 The third panel 14c in the series of panels is preferably the base panel of the container 12. In this embodiment, the second and fourth panels 14b, 14d in the series of panels are opposed wall panels of the container 12 and the first and fifth panels 14a, 14e in the series of panels each form part of a top panel of the container 12. Alternatively, other panels in the series of panels can be the base panel. 20 The sum of the lengths LPA and LPE of the first and fifth panels 14a, 14e is preferably equal to the length Lpc of the third panel 14c. Alternatively, the sum of the lengths LPA and LPE may be slightly less than the length Lec leaving a gap "G" therebetween, as shown in Figure 3. Further, the length LPA of the first panel 14a is preferably equal to or greater than 25 half of the width WFB of the flaps 20a, 20b of the second panel 14b. The length LFE of the flaps 20a, 20b of the fifth panel 14e is greater than width WFD of flaps 20a, 20b of a fourth panel 14d in the series of panels. The width WFB of the flaps 20a, 20b of the second panel 14b are preferably the same as the width Wr)o flaps 20a, 20b 30 of the fourth panel 14d. The length LFE of the flaps 20a, 20b of the fifth LPE panel 14e is also preferably twice the width WFD of the flaps 20a, 20b of the fourth panel 14d in the WO 2013/131126 PCT/AU2013/000202 - 12 series of panels, or any other suitable length so that they overlie respective flaps 20a, 20b of the second panel 14b when folded in the manner shown in Figure 3. As shown in Figures 4 and 5, the flaps 20a, 20b of a third panel 14c in the series of panels 5 are arrangable for coupling to respective flaps 20a, 20b of second 14b and fourth 14d panels in the series of panels when the series of panels are arranged so that neighbouring panels are substantially perpendicular with respect to each other. In use, the container 12 is constructed from the blank 10 by performing the steps of: 10 (a) folding the second panel 14b of the series of panels so that it is substantially perpendicular to the third panel 14c of the series of panels; (b) folding the fourth panel 14d of the series of panels so that it is substantially perpendicular to the third panel 14c; 15 (c) coupling flaps 20a, 20b of the third panel 14c to respective flaps 20a, 20b of the second and fourth panels 14b, 14d; (d) folding a first panel 14a of the series of panels so that it is substantially perpendicular to the second panel 14b; (e) coupling flaps 20a, 20b of the first panel 14a to respective flaps 20a, 20b of the 20 second panel 14b; (f) folding the fifth panel 14e of the series of panels so that it is substantially perpendicular to the fourth panel 14d; (g) coupling flaps 20a, 20b of the fifth panel 14e to respective flaps 20a, 20b of the second panel 14b. 25 The method also preferably includes the steps of coupling the flaps 20a, 20b of the fifth panel 14e to flaps of the fourth panel 14d. The step of coupling also preferably includes the step of applying an adhesive. 30 The container 12 is preferably constructed -using wraparound packaging machinery (not shown) in a production line (not shown). The process includes the steps of: WO 2013/131126 PCT/AU2013/000202 - 13 (a) feeding the blank 10 into a wraparound machine with the first panel 14a on the leading edge; (b) placing the load on the third panel 14c from the side or from the top; 5 (c) if the load is inserted from the side, then: (i) fourth and fifth panels 14d, 14e are folded sequentially around the load so that the fourth panel 14d is generally vertical and the fifth panel 14e is generally horizontal; (ii) then the first and second panels 14a, 14b are folded around the load so that 10 the second panel 14b is generally vertical the first panel 14a is generally horizontal; (iii) the flaps 20a, 20b of the second and fourth panels 14b, 14d are folded in so that the abut the load; (iv) an adhesive is applied to the flaps 20a, 20b of the second and fourth panels 15 14b,14d;and (v) the flaps 20a, 20b of the first, third, and fifth panels 14a, 14c, 14e are folded over and compressed; (d) if the load is inserted from above, then: (i) the panels 14a, 14b, 14c, 14d, 14e are arranged in the manner shown in 20 Figure 4 when the load is inserted; (ii) adhesive is applied to the folded flaps 20a, 20b of the of the second and fourth panels 14b, 14d; (iii) the flaps 20a, 20b of the first, fifth, and third panels 14a, 14e, 14c are folded over and compressed. 25 The container 12 preferably runs on current wrap around machinery with some raw material savings in hot melt glue. In the examples shown, the blank 10 has been developed with a view to packaging 355ml 30 bottles the following dimensions: WO 2013/131126 PCT/AU2013/000202 -14 1. LPA = 60 mm; 2. LpB 234 mm; 3. Lpc = 250 mm; 4. LPD = 234 mm; 5 5. LPE = 188 mm; 6. WPE = WPA = Wc 378 mm; 7. WPD = WP1 = 374 mm; 8. WFE = WFA = WFc = 115 mm; 9. WFD =WFB=119mm; 10 10. R,=39;and 11. R 2 =4. However, these dimensions may vary to suit any given desired shape for the container 12. 15 Blank 200 and Container 202formed therefrom The blank 200 shown in Figure 7a is used to construct the container 202 shown in Figure 8b by folding and gluing the blank 200 in accordance with the steps shown in Figure 8c. 20 The blank 200 operates in an analogous manner to that of the blanks 10 and like parts are referenced with like reference numerals. For example, the blank 200 includes a series of five parallelogram panels 14a, 14b, 14c, 14d, 14e. That is, panels which have two pairs of parallel sides 16a, 16b and 18a, 18b. The series of panels 14a, 14b, 14c, 14d, 14e are arranged side by side so that neighbouring panels in the series share a common parallel 25 sidel8a, 18b. The blank 200 also include pairs of flaps 20a, 20b extending from opposed uncommon parallel sides 16a, 16b of each one of the panels 14a, 14b, 14c, 14d, 14e. As particularly shown in Figure 7c, the flaps 20a, 20b of the fifth panel 14e in the series of panels are 30 arrangable for coupling to respective flaps 20a, 20b of the second panel 14b in the series of panels when the series of panels are arranged in the manner shown in Figure 7b where WO 2013/131126 PCT/AU2013/000202 - 15 neighbouring panels are substantially perpendicular with respect to each other. The flaps 20a, 20b of the fifth panel 14e are also arrangable for coupling to respective flaps 20a, 20b of a fourth panel 14d in the series of panels when the series of panels are arranged 5 so that neighbouring panels are substantially perpendicular with respect to each other, as shown in Figure 7b. The flaps 20a, 20b of a first panel 14a are arrangable for coupling to respective flaps 20a, 20b of the second panel 14b when the series of panels are arranged so that neighbouring 10 panels are substantially perpendicular with respect to each other, as shown in Figure 7c. The third panel 14c in the series of panels is preferably the base panel of the container 12. In this embodiment, the second and fourth panels 14b, 14d in the series of panels are opposed wall panels of the container 12 and the first and fifth panels 14a, 14e in the series 15 of panels each form part of a top panel of the container 12. Alternatively, other panels in the series of panels can be the base panel. The sum of the lengths LPA and LPE of the first and fifth panels 14a, 14e is preferably equal to the length Lpc of the third panel 14c. Alternatively, the sum of the lengths LPA and LPE 20 may be slightly less than the length Lpc leaving a gap "G" therebetween, as shown in Figure 7b. Further, the length LPA of the first panel 14a is preferably equal to or greater than half of the width WFB of the flaps 20a, 20b of the second panel 14b. The length LFE of the flaps 20a, 20b of the fifth panel 14e is greater than width WFD of 25 flaps 20a, 20b of a fourth panel 14d in the series of panels. The width WEB of the flaps 20a, 20b of the second panel 14b are preferably the same as the width Wro flaps 20a, 20b of the fourth panel 14d. The length LFE of the flaps 20a, 20b of the fifth LPE panel 14e is also preferably twice the width WFD of the flaps 20a, 20b of the fourth panel 14d in the series of panels, or any other suitable length so that they overlie respective flaps 20a, 20b 30 of the second panel 14b when folded in the manner shown in Figure 7b.

However, these dimensions may vary to suit any given desired shape for the container 202. 10 Blank 300 and Container 302formed therefrom The blank 300 shown in Figure 8a is used to construct the container 302 shown in Figure 8b by folding and gluing the blank 300 in accordance with the steps shown in Figures 8c 15 and 8d. The blank 300 operates in an analogous manner to that of the blanks 10, 200 and like parts are referenced with like reference numerals. For example, the blank 300 includes a series of five parallelogram panels 14a, 14b, 14c, 14d, 14e. That is, panels which have two pairs 20 of parallel sides 16a, 16b and 18a, 18b. 'he series of panels 14a, 14b, 14c, 14d, 14e are arranged side by side so that neighbouring panels in the series share a common parallel sidel8a, 18b. The blank 300 also include pairs of flaps 20a, 20b extending from opposed uncommon 25 parallel sides 16a, 16b of each one of the panels 14a, 14b, 14c, 14d, 14e. As particularly shown in Figures 7b to 7c, the flaps 20a, 20b of the first and fifth panels 14a, 14e are arrangable for coupling to respective flaps 20a,.20b of the third panel 14c in the series of panels when the series of panels are arranged in the manner shown in Figure 7b where neighbouring panels are substantially perpendicular with respect to each other. 30 The flaps 20a, 20b of the fifth panel 14e are also arrangable for coupling to respective flaps WO 2013/131126 PCT/AU2013/000202 - 19 20a, 20b of a fourth panel 14d when the series of panels are arranged so that neighbouring panels are substantially perpendicular with respect to each other, as shown in Figure 7b. The third panel 14c is preferably the base panel of the container 302. In this embodiment, the second and fourth panels 14b, 14d in the series of panels are opposed wall panels of the 10 container 302 and the first and fifth panels 14a, 14e each form part of a top. panel of the container 302. Alternatively, other panels in the series of panels can be the base panel. The sum of the lengths LPA and LPE of the first and fifth panels 14a, 14e is preferably equal to the length Lpc of the third panel 14c. 15 The sum of the lengths LPA and LPE of the first and fifth panels 14a, 14e is preferably equal to the length Lpc of the third panel 14c. Alternatively, the sum of the lengths LPA and Les may be slightly less than the length Lpc leaving a gap "G" therebetween, as shown in Figure 7b. Further, the length LPA of the first panel 14a is preferably greater than the width 20 WFB of the flaps 20a, 20b of the second panel 14b. The flaps 20a, 20b of the blank 300 are coupled together with an adhesive. Preferably, hot melt adhesive is applied to both sides of the box simultaneously. 25 In use, the container 302 is constructed from the blank 300 by performing the steps of: (a) folding the second panel 14b of the series of panels so that it is substantially perpendicular to the third panel 14c of the series of panels; (b) folding the fourth panel 14d of the series of panels so that it is substantially 30 perpendicular to the third panel 14c; (c) coupling flaps 20a, 20b of the third panel 14c to respective flaps 20a, 20b of the WO 2013/131126 PCT/AU2013/000202 -20 second and fourth panels 14b, 14d; (d) folding a first panel 14a of the series of panels so that it is substantially perpendicular to the second panel 14b; (e) coupling flaps 20a, 20b of the first panel 14a to respective flaps 20a, 20b of the 5 third panel 14c; (f) folding the fifth panel 14e of the series of panels so that it is substantially perpendicular to the fourth panel 14d; (g) coupling flaps 20a, 20b of the fifth panel 14e to respective flaps 20a, 20b of the third panel 14c. 10 The method also preferably includes the steps of coupling the flaps of the fifth panel to flaps of the fourth panel. The step of coupling also preferably includes the step of applying an adhesive. 15 The container 302 is preferably constructed using wraparound packaging machinery (not shown) in a production line (not shown). The process includes the steps of: (a) feeding the blank 300 into a wraparound machine with the first panel 14a on the leading edge; 20 (b) placing the load on the third panel 14c from the side or from the top; (c) if the load is inserted from the side, then: (i) fourth and fifth panels 14d, 14e are folded sequentially around the load so that the fourth panel 14d is generally vertical and the fifth panel 14e is generally horizontal; 25 (ii) then the first and second panels 14a, 14b are folded aound the load so that the second panel 14b is generally vertical the first panel 14a is generally horizontal; (iii) the flaps 20a, 20b of the second and fourth panels 14b, 14d are folded in so that the abut the load; 30 (iv) an adhesive is applied to the flaps 20a, 20b of the third panel 14c; and (v) the flaps 20a, 20b of the first, third, and fifth panels 14a, 14c, 14e are folded WO 2013/131126 PCT/AU2013/000202 -21 over the flaps 20a, 20b of the third panel 14c and compressed; or (d) if the load is inserted from above, then: (i) the panels 14a, 14b, 14c, 14d, 14e are arranged in the manner shown in Figure 7c when the load is inserted; 5 (ii) adhesive is applied to the folded flaps 20a, 20b of the of the third panel 14c: (iii) the flaps 20a, 20b of the first, fifth, and third panels 14a, 14e, 14c are folded over the flaps 20a, 20b of the third panel 14c and compressed. The container 302 preferably runs on current wrap around machinery with some raw 10 material savings in hot melt glue. In the examples shown, the blank 300 has the following dimensions: I. LPA = 70 mm; 15 2. LPB = LpD= 71 mm; 3. Lpc = LPE = 238 mm; 4. WPA = WPB = WPC WPD WPE =184 mm; 5. WFA = WFE = 56 mm; 6. WFB = WFD = 35 mm; and 20 7. WFc = 38 mm. However, these dimensions may vary to suit any given desired shape for the container 302. By constructing the container 302 in this manner from the blank 300, the above-described 25 step of gluing the fifth panel 102e to the first panel 102a (refer to prior art Figures Ia to Id) is made redundant. As such, the blank 300 advantageously solves one or more of the above mentioned difficulties by increasing production line speeds and by using less glue to securely construct the container. Advantageously, producing the container 302 from the blank 300 reduces downtime and increases wrap blank cost savings. 30 WO 2013/131126 PCT/AU2013/000202 - 22 Blank 400 and Container 402formed therefrom The blank 400 shown in Figure 9a is used to construct the container 402 shown in Figure 9b by folding and gluing the blank 400 in accordance with the steps shown in Figure 9c. 5 The blank 400 operates in an analogous manner to that of the blanks 10, 200, 300 and like parts are referenced with like reference numerals. For example, the blank 400 includes a series of five parallelogram panels 14a, 14b, 14c, 14d, 14e. That is, panels which have two pairs of parallel sides 16a, 16b and 18a, 18b. The series of panels 14a, 14b, 14c, 14d, 14e are arranged side by side so that neighbouring panels in the series share a common parallel 10 side 18a, 18b. The blank 400 also include pairs of flaps 20a, 20b extending from opposed uncommon parallel sides 16a, 16b of each one of the panels 14a, 14b, 14c, 14d, 14e. As particularly shown in Figures 9b and 9c, the flaps 20a, 20b of the first and fifth panels 14a, 14e are 15 arrangable for coupling to respective flaps 20a, 20b of the second and fourth panels 14b, 14d when the series of panels are arranged in the manner shown in Figures 9b and 9c where neighbouring panels are substantially perpendicular with respect to each other. The third panel 14c is preferably the base panel of the container 402. In this embodiment, 20 the second and fourth panels 14b, 14d in the series of panels are opposed wall panels of the container 402 and the first and fifth panels 14a, 14e each form part of a top panel of the container 402. Alternatively, other panels in the series of panels can be the base panel. The sum of the lengths LPA and LPE of the first and fifth panels 14a, 14e is preferably 25 greater than the length Lec of the third panel 14c such that the fifth panel 14e extends past the first panel 14a in the manner shown in Figure 9a. When assembled in the manner shown in Figure 9b, a free end 404 of the fifth panel 14e overlies and extends past a corresponding free end 406 of the first panel by a distance of "X". For example, "X" is 4 mm. However, "X" could be any other distance suitable for overlapping the panels so that 30 they can be secured together.

In use, the container 402 is constructed from the blank 400 by performing the steps of: 5 (a) folding the second panel 14b of the series of panels so that it is substantially perpendicular to the third panel 14c of the series of panels; (b) folding the fourth panel 14d of the series of panels so that it is substantially perpendicular to the third panel 14c; 10 (c) coupling flaps 20a, 20b of the third panel 14c to respective flaps 20a, 20b of the second and fourth panels 14b, 14d; (d) folding a first panel 14a of the series of panels so that it is substantially perpendicular to the second panel 14b; (e) coupling flaps 20a, 20b of the first panel 14a to respective flaps 20a, 20b of the 15 third panel 14c; (f) folding the fifth panel 14e of the series of panels so that it is substantially perpendicular to the fourth panel 14d; and (g) coupling flaps 20a, 20b of the fifth panel 14e to respective flaps 20a, 20b of the third panel 14c; and 20 (h) coupling a free end 404 of the fifth panel 14e to an underlying free end section 406 of the first panel 14a. The step of coupling also preferably includes the step of applying an adhesive. 25 In the examples shown, the blank 400 has the following dimensions: 1. LPA == LPE= 33 mm 2. LpB3= Lpe= 157 mm; 3. By constructing the container 402 in this manner from the blank 400, the above-described step of gluing the fifth panel 102e to the first panel 102a (refer to prior art Figures 1 a to 1 d) is made redundant. As such, the blank 400 advantageously solves one or more of the 10 above mentioned difficulties by increasing production line speeds and by using less glue to securely construct the container. Advantageously, producing the container 402 from the blank 400 reduces downtime and increases wrap blank cost savings. The blanks 10, 200, 300, 400 are preferably die cut from a single sheet corrugated 15 cardboard or solid folding cardboard. Alternatively, the blank 10, 200, 300, 400 is single sheet corrugated cardboard. The blank 10, 200, 300, 400 is foldable and made from, for example, a single sheet of two sided corrugated cardboard; fibre board; corrugated plastic; or laminated cardboard. In the 20 example shown in Figure 2, the direction of extent "DF" of flutes of the cardboard is transverse to a direction of extent "D," of the series of panels. In the example shown, the direction of extent DF of flutes of the cardboard is perpendicular to the direction of extent De of the series of panels. 25 Alternatively, the blank 10, 200, 300, 400 is made from any suitable non-cardboard substrate. The flaps 20a, 20b of the blank 10, 200, 300, 400 are coupled together with an adhesive. Preferably, hot melt adhesive is applied to both sides of the box simultaneously. 30 Although the container 12, 202, 302, 402 has been above described as being suitable for WO 2013/131126 PCT/AU2013/000202 -25 use in packaging one or more items such as bottles, the container 12, 202, 302. 402 is also suitable for use in over wrapping individual package units as well as overwrapped multi units. The units can be bottles, cans, jars, tins boxes, cartons small over-wrapped packages, or any other such items. For example, the container 12, 202, 302, 402 is shaped 5 to suit the following bottle and can formats: a. 375 ml cans; b. 375 ml mid neck bottles; c. 355 ml bottles; 10 d. 750 ml long neck bottles; and e. 375 ml stubbies. Further, the container 12, 202, 302, 403 is suitable for use with the following primary packaging: 15 a. ring packs for cans; b. shrink wrap film for 6 packs; c. 4 and 6 bottle carton board basket carriers; and d. 3, 4, and 6 bottle carton board overwraps. 20 Blank 500 and Container 502 formed therefrom The blank 500 shown in Figure 10a is used to construct the container 502 shown in Figure I Ob by folding and gluing the blank 500 in accordance with the steps shown in Figures 1 Oc 25 and 10d. By constructing the container 502 in this manner from the blank 500, the above described step of gluing the fifth panel 102e to the first panel 102a (refer to prior art Figures la to ld) is made redundant. As such, the blank 500 advantageously solves one or more of the above mentioned difficulties by increasing production line speeds and by using less glue to securely construct the container. Advantageously, producing the container 502 30 from the blank 500 reduces downtime and increases wrap blank cost savings.

As such, like parts are referenced with like reference numerals. The blank 500 includes a series of five parallelogram panels 14a, 14b, 14c, 14d. 14e. That 5 is, panels which have two pairs- of parallel sides 16a, 16b and 18a, 18b. The series of panels 14a, 14b, 14c, 14d, 14e are arranged side by side so that neighbouring panels in the series share a common parallel side 18a, 18b. The blank 500 also include pairs of flaps 20a, 20b extending from opposed uncommon 10 parallel sides 16a, 16b of each one of the panels 14a, 14b, 14c, 14d, 14e. As particularly shown in Figures 10c and 10d, the flaps 20a, 20b of the fifth panel 14e in the series of panels are arrangable for coupling to respective flaps 20a, 20b of the second panel 14b in the series of panels when the series of panels are arranged in the manner shown in Figure I Od where the fifth and third panels 14e, 14c are substantially parallel with respect to each 15 other. The flaps 20a, 20b of the fifth panel 14e are also arrangable for coupling to respective flaps 20a, 20b of a fourth panel 14d in the series of panels when the series of panels are arranged so that the fifth and third panels 14e, 14c are substantially parallel with respect to each 20 other, as shown in Figure 1 Od. The flaps 20a, 20b of a first panel 14a in the series of panels are arrangable for coupling to respective flaps 20a, 20b of the second panel 14b in the series of panels when the series of panels are arranged so that the fifth and third panels 14e, 14c are substantially parallel with 25 respect to each other, as shown in Figure 1 d. The third panel 14c in the series of panels is preferably the base panel of the container 502. In this embodiment, the second and fourth panels 14b, 14d in the series of panels are opposed wall panels of the container 502 and the first and fifth panels 14a, I4e in the series 30 of panels each form part of a top panel of the container 502. Alternatively, other panels in the series of panels can be the base panel.
WO 2013/131126 PCT/AU2013/000202 -27 The blank 500 has been designed with a view to having a fitted shape around upper necked sections 504 of necked goods 506 stored in the container 502. To facilitate this, the blank 500 includes two deformation sections 508a, 508b which are designed allow respective 5 upper sections 510 of the second and fourth panels 14b, 1.4d to incline towards each other and thereby follow the shape of the necked sections 504 of the goods 506 stored in the container 502 in the manner shown in Figure 1 Oe. The blank 500 is hereafter described, by way of non-limiting example, to the goods 506 being necked bottles 506. Although, the blank 500 and the container 502 are suitable for use with any necked goods 506. 10 As particularly shown in Figure 10a, the deformation sections 108a, 108b each include cut lines 512a, 512b that extend in straight lines through flaps 20a, 20b of respective second and fourth panels 14b, 14d towards each other. The cut lines 512a, 526b preferably extend through the entirety of respective flaps 20a, 20b and then extend a further 45 mm into the 15 respective second and fourth panels 14b, 14d. However, the length of the cut lines 512a, 512b could vary to suit the degree of deformation needed for the goods 506 stored in the container 502. The cut lines 512a, 512b divide respective flaps into first and second parts. The deformation sections 508a, 508b also include "V" shaped cut out sections 514a. 514b 20 formed in the flaps 20a, 20b. The "'V" shaped cut outs 514a, 514b have rounded apexes 516a, 516b. The cut lines 512a, 512b form one side of respective "V" shaped cut out sections 514a, 514b and pass through side sections of the rounded apexes 516a, 516b. Alternatively, the "V" shaped cut out sections are crushed mechanically from a blank. 25 Open end sections of the "V" shaped cut outs 514a, 514b preferably have a width of 20 mm. However, the width could vary to suit the degree of deformation needed for the necked bottles 506 stored in the container 502. 30 The upper sections 510 of the second and fourth panels 14b, 14d preferably have a length of 94 mm. However, the width could vary to suit the degree of deformation needed for the WO 2013/131126 PCT/AU2013/000202 - 28 necked bottles 506 stored in the container 502. For example, if the necked bottles had a long neck, then the length of the upper section may be longer than 94 mm to accommodate the longer necks 504 of the bottles 506. 5 In use, the container 502 is constructed from the blank 500 by performing the steps of: (a) folding the second panel 14b of the series of panels so that it is substantially perpendicular to the third panel 14c of the series of panels; (b) folding the fourth panel 14d of the series of panels so that it is substantially 10 perpendicular to the third panel 14c; (c) coupling flaps 20a, 20b of the third panel 14c to respective flaps 20a, 20b of the second and fourth panels 14b, 14d; (d) folding the upper sections 510 of the second and fourth panels 14b, 14d so that they incline towards each other and creases 520 form along the pairs of cut lines 512a, 15 512b in the manner shown in Figure 1 Oe; (e) folding the fifth panel 14e of the series of panels so that it is substantially parallel to the third panel 14c; (f) coupling flaps 20a, 20b of the fifth panel 14e to respective flaps 20a, 20b of the second panel l4b; 20 (g) folding the first panel I4a of the series of panels so that it is substantially parallel to the third panel 14c and overlies the end 18a of the fifth panel 14e; (h) coupling flaps 20a, 20b of the first panel 14a to respective flaps 20a, 20b of the second panel 14b. 25 The method also preferably includes the steps of coupling the flaps 20a, 20b of the fifth panel 14e to the flaps 20a, 20b of the fourth panel 14d. The step of coupling also preferably includes the step of applying an adhesive. As particularly shown in Figure 1 Od, to facilitate the upper sections 510 of the second and 30 fourth panels 14b, 14d inclining towards each other, the flaps 20a, 20b of the second and fourth panels 14b, 14d separate along respective cut lines 512a, 512b the resultant parts of WO 2013/131126 PCT/AU2013/000202 - 29 the flaps slide past one another. The container 502 is preferably constructed using wraparound packaging machinery (not shown) in a production line (not shown). When the load is inserted from the side, the 5 process includes the steps of: (a) feeding the blank 500 into a wraparound machine with the fifth panel 14e on the leading edge; (b) placing the load 506 on the third panel 14c from the side; 10 (c) fourth and fifth panels 14d, 4e are folded sequentially around the load 506 so that a lower section 518b of the fourth panel l4d is generally vertical and the fifth panel 14e is generally horizontal; (d) the first and second panels 14a, 14b are then folded around the load 506 so that a lower section 118a of the second panel 14b is generally vertical the first panel 14a 15 is generally horizontal; (e) the flaps 20a, 20b of the second and fourth panels 14b, 14d are folded in so that they abut the load 506; (f), an adhesive (not shown) is applied to the flaps 20a, 20b of the second and fourth panels 14b, 14d; 20 (g) the flaps 20a, 20b of the third panel 14c are folded over the flaps 20a, 20b of the second and fourth panels 14b, 14d; (h) upper sections 510 of the second and fourth panels 14b, 14d are forced to incline towards each other to abut the shape of the necked load 506; and (i) the flaps 20a, 20b of the first, third, and fifth panels 14a, 14c, 14e are folded over 25 and compressed; The container 502 preferably runs on current wrap around machinery with some raw material savings in hot melt glue. 30 In the examples shown, the blank 500 has been developed with a view to packaging 355 ml bottles and has the following dimensions: WO 2013/131126 PCT/AU2013/000202 -30 1. The free edge 18b of the fifth panel 14e is the lead edge of the blank 500. This is the 20 crushed or inside closure. Conversely, the free edge 18a of the first panel 14a is the trailing edge of the blank 500. This is the crushed or outside closure. The length of flaps LFE of the fifth panel 14e is greater than the width WFD of the flaps of the fourth panel 14d. Further, the width WFE of the flaps of the fifth panel 14e is greater 25 than the height of the upper section 510 of the upper sections 510 of the second and fourth panels 14b, 14d so that the flaps 20a, 20b of the fifth panel 14e overlap lower sections of the flaps 20a, 20b of the second and fourth panels 14b, 14d then arranged in the manner shown in Figure lOb. 30 The flaps 20a, 20b of the blank 500 are coupled together with an adhesive 522. Preferably, hot melt adhesive is applied to both sides of the box simultaneously.

Claims (71)
1. A blank for forming a container, including: 5 (a) a series of five panels arranged side by side so that neighbouring panels in the series share a common parallel side; and (b) pairs of flaps extending from opposed uncommon parallel sides of each one of said panels, wherein flaps of a fifth panel in the series of panels are arrangable to at least 10 partially overlie respective flaps of a second panel in the series of panels when the series of panels are arranged so that neighbouring panels are substantially perpendicular with respect to each other.
2. The blank claimed in claim 1, wherein the flaps of the fifth panel also at least 15 partially overlie respective flaps of a fourth panel in the series of panels when the series of panels are arranged so that neighbouring panels are substantially perpendicular with respect to each other.
3. The blank claimed in claim 1 or claim 2, wherein flaps of a first panel in the series 20 of panels are arrangable to at least partially overlie respective flaps of a second panel in the series of panels when the series of panels are arranged so that neighbouring panels are substantially perpendicular with respect to each other.
4. The blank claimed in any one of claims 1 to 3, wherein first and fifth panels in the 25 series of panels each form part of a top panel of the container when the series of panels are arranged so that neighbouring panels are substantially perpendicular with respect to each other.
5. The blank claimed in claim 4, wherein a length of the fifth panel is greater than a 30 length of the first panel. WO 2013/131126 PCT/AU2013/000202 -33 6. The blank claimed in any one of claims 1 to 5, wherein a length of the fifth panel is greater than a width of the flaps of the fourth panel in the series of panels.
7. The blank claimed in claim 6, wherein a length of the first panel is at least half of a 5 width of the flaps of the second panel in the series of panels.
8. The blank claimed in any one of claims I to 7, wherein flaps of a third panel in the series of panels are arrangable for coupling to respective flaps of second and fourth panels in the series of panels when the series of panels are arranged so that 10 neighbouring panels are substantially perpendicular with respect to each other.
9. The blank claimed in any one of claims I to 8, wherein a free side of the first panel at least partially overlaps a free side of the fifth panel when the series of panels are arranged so that neighbouring panels are substantially perpendicular with respect to 15 each other.
10. The blank claimed in any one of claims 1 to 8, including deformation sections in the second and fourth panels that permit upper sections of the second and fourth panels to incline towards each other when series of panels are arranged so that 20 neighbouring panels are substantially perpendicular with respect to each other.
11. The blank claimed in claim 10, wherein the deformation sections include cut lines that extend in straight lines through the flaps of respective second and fourth panels towards each other. 25
12. The blank claimed in claim 11, wherein the cut lines extend through respective flaps.
13. The blank claimed in claim 12, wherein the cut lines also extend at least partially 30 into respective second and fourth panels, and wherein creases form along the pairs of cut lines when said opposed sections of the second and fourth panels to incline WO 2013/131126 PCT/AU2013/000202 -34 towards each other.
14. The blank claimed in claim 12 or claim 13, wherein the deformation sections also include "V" shaped cut out sections formed in the flaps or "V" shaped sections 5 formed in the flaps that are crushed mechanically from the blank.
15. The blank claimed in claim 14, wherein the "V" shaped cut out sections have rounded apexes. 10 16. The blank claimed in claim 15, wherein the cut lines form one side of respective "V" shaped cut out sections.
17. The blank claimed in claim 16, wherein the cut lines pass through side sections of respective rounded apexes. 15

The blank claimed in any one of claims 11 to 17, wherein flaps of the second and fourth panels separate along respective cut lines when said opposed sections of the second and fourth panels to incline towards each other. 20 19. The blank claimed in any one of claims I to 18, wherein a third panel in the series of panels is a base panel of the container.
20. The blank claimed in any one of claims 1 to 18, wherein second and fourth panels in the series of panels are opposed side wall panels of the container. 25
21. The blank claimed in any one of claims I to 20, wherein the blank is single wall corrugated cardboard.
22. The blank claimed in claim 21, wherein a direction of extent of flutes of the 30 cardboard is transverse to a direction of extent of the series of panels. WO 2013/131126 PCT/AU2013/000202 -35
23. The blank claimed in claim 22, wherein the direction of extent -of flutes of the cardboard is perpendicular to the direction of extent of the series of panels.
24. A container for packaging one or more items, including: 5 (a) a series of five panels arranged side by side such that neighbouring panels in the series share a common parallel side and such that neighbouring panels are substantially perpendicular with respect to each other; (b) pairs of flaps extending from opposed uncommon parallel sides of each one of said panels; and 10 (c) fasteners coupling: (i) flaps of a third panel in the series of panels to respective flaps of second and fourth panels in the series of panels; (ii) flaps of a first panel in the series of panels to respective flaps of the second panel; and 15 (iii) flaps of a fifth panel in the series of panels to respective flaps of the second panel.
25. The container claimed in claim 24, including fasteners coupling flaps of the fifth panel to respective flaps of the fourth panel. 20
26. The container claimed in claim 24 or claim 25, wherein the first and fifth panels in the series of panels each form part of a top panel of the container.
27. The container claimed in claim 26, wherein a length of the fifth panel is greater 25 than a length of the first panel.
28. The container claimed in any one of claims 24 to 27, wherein a length of the fifth panel is greater than a width of the flaps of the fourth panel in the series of panels. 30 29. The container claimed in claim 28, wherein a length of the first panel is at least half of a width of flaps of the second panel in the series of panels. WO 2013/131126 PCT/AU2013/000202 -36
30. The container claimed in any one of claims 24 to 29, including deformation sections in the second and fourth panels so that upper sections of the second and fourth panels are inclined towards each other so as to contour a shape of a necked 5 load in the container.
31. The container claimed in claim 30, wherein the deformation sections include cut lines that extend in straight lines through the flaps of respective second and fourth panels towards each other. 10
32. The container claimed in claim 31, wherein the cut lines extend through respective flaps.
33. The container claimed in claim 32, wherein the cut lines also extend at least 15 partially into respective second and fourth panels, and wherein creases form along ,the pairs of cut lines as a result of the upper sections of the second and fourth panels being inclined towards each other.
34. The container claimed in claim 32 or claim 33, wherein the deformation sections 20 also include "V" shaped cut out sections formed in the flaps.
35. The container claimed in claim 34, wherein the "V" shaped cut out sections have rounded apexes. 25 36. The container claimed in claim 35, wherein the cut fines form one side of respective "V" shaped cut out sections.
37. The blank claimed in claim 36, wherein the cut lines pass through side sections of respective rounded apexes. 30
38. The blank claimed in any one of claims 31 to 37, wherein flaps of the second and WO 2013/131126 PCT/AU2013/000202 -37 fourth panels separate along respective cut lines when said opposed sections of the second and fourth panels to incline towards each other.
39. The container claimed in any one of claims 24 to 38, wherein the third panel in the 5 series of panels is a base panel of the container.
40. The container claimed in any one of claims 24 to 39, wherein the second and fourth panels in the series of panels are opposed side wall panels of the container. 10 41. The container claimed in any one of claims 24 to 40, wherein the container is single walled corrugated cardboard.
42. The container claimed in claim 41, wherein a direction of extent of flutes of the cardboard is transverse to a direction of extent of the series of panels. 15
43. The container claimed in claim 43, wherein the direction of extent of flutes of the cardboard is perpendicular to the direction of extent of the series of panels.
44. A method of constructing a container from the blank claimed in any one of claims 1 20 to 23, including the steps of: (a) folding a second panel of the series of panels so that it is substantially perpendicular to a third panel of the series of panels; (b) folding a fourth panel of the series of panels so that it is substantially perpendicular to the third panel; 25 (c) coupling flaps of the third panel to respective flaps of the second and fourth panels; (d) folding a first panel of the series of panels so that it is substantially parallel to the third panel; (e) coupling flaps of the first panel to respective flaps of the second panel; 30 (f) folding a fifth panel of the series of panels so that it is substantially parallel to the third panel; and WO 2013/131126 PCT/AU2013/000202 - 38 (g) coupling flaps of the fifth panel to respective flaps of the second panel.
45. The method claimed in claim 44, including the step of folding upper sections of the second and fourth panels so that they incline towards each other and so that creases form along the pairs of cut lines. 5

The method claimed in claim 44 or claim 45, wherein the step of coupling flaps of the fifth panel to respective flaps of the second panel also includes the step of coupling the flaps of the fifth panel to flaps of the fourth panel. 10 47. The method claimed in any one of claims 44 to 46, wherein coupling includes the step of applying an adhesive.
48. A process for constructing a container from the blank claimed in any one of claims I to 23, including the steps of: 15 (a) folding a second panel of the series of panels so that it is substantially perpendicular to a third panel of the series of panels; (b) folding a fourth panel of the series of panels so that it is substantially perpendicular to the third panel; (c) coupling flaps of the third panel to respective flaps of the second and fourth 20 panels; (d) folding a first panel of the series of panels so that it is substantially parallel to the third panel; (e) coupling flaps of the first panel to respective flaps of the second panel; (f) folding a fifth panel of the series of panels so that it is substantially parallel 25 to the third panel; and (g) coupling flaps of the fifth panel to respective flaps of the second panel.
49. The process claimed in claim 48, including the step of folding upper sections of the second and fourth panels so that they incline towards each other and so that creases 30 form along the pairs of cut lines. The process claimed in claim 48 or claim 50, wherein the step of coupling flaps of the fifth panel to respective flaps of the second panel also includes the step of coupling the flaps of the fifth panel to flaps of the fourth panel. 5 51. The process claimed in any one of claims 48 to 50, wherein coupling includes the step of applying an adhesive.
52. A blank for forming a container, including: (a) a series of five panels arranged side by side so that neighbouring panels in 10 the series share a common parallel side; and (b) pairs of flaps extending from opposed uncommon parallel sides of each one of said panels, wherein flaps of a fifth panel in the series of panels are arrangable to at least partially overlie respective flaps of a third panel in the series of panels when the 15 series of panels are arranged so that neighbouring panels are substantially perpendicular with respect to each other.
53. The blank claimed in claim 52, wherein the flaps of a first panel in the series of panels are arrangable to at least partially overlie respective flaps of a third panel in 20 the series of panels when the series of panels are arranged so that neighbouring panels are substantially perpendicular with respect to each other.
54. The blank claimed in claim 52 or claim 53, wherein the flaps of the fifth panel also at least partially overlie respective flaps of a fourth panel in the series of panels 25 when the series of panels are arranged so that neighbouring panels are substantially perpendicular with respect to each other.
55. The blank claimed in any one of claims 52 to 54, wherein flaps of a first panel in the series of panels are arrangable to at least partially overlie respective flaps of a 30 second panel in the series of panels when the series of panels are arranged so that neighbouring panels are substantially perpendicular with respect to each other. 56. The blank claimed in any one of claims 52 to 55, wherein first and fifth panels in the series of panels each form part of a top panel of the container when the series of panels are arranged so that neighbouring panels are substantially perpendicular 5 with respect to each other.

The blank claimed in any one of claims 52 to 56, wherein flaps of a third panel in the series of panels are arrangable for coupling to respective flaps of second and fourth panels in the series of panels when the series of panels are arranged so that 10 neighbouring panels are substantially perpendicular with respect to each other.
58. The blank claimed in any one of claims 52 to 57, wherein a third panel in the series of panels is a base panel of the container. 15 59. The blank claimed in any one of claims 52 to 58, wherein second and fourth panels in the series of panels are opposed side wall panels of the container.
60. The blank claimed in any one of claims 52 to 59, wherein the blank is single wall corrugated cardboard. 20
61. A container for packaging one or more items, including: (a) a series of five panels arranged side by side such that neighbouring panels in the series share a common parallel side and such that neighbouring panels are substantially perpendicular with respect to each other; 25 (b) pairs of flaps extending from opposed uncommon parallel sides of each one of said panels; and (c) fasteners coupling: (i) flaps of the a third panel in the series of panels to respective flaps of second and fourth panels in the series of panels; 30 (ii) flaps of a first panel in the series of panels to respective flaps of the third panel; and WO 2013/131126 PCT/AU2013/000202 -41 (iii) flaps of a fifth panel in the series of panels to respective flaps of the third panel.
62.- The container claimed in claim 61, including fasteners coupling flaps of the fifth 5 panel to respective flaps of the third panel.
63. The container claimed in claim 61 or claim 62, wherein the first and fifth panels in the series of panels each form part of a top panel of the container. 10 64. The container claimed in claim 63, wherein a length of the fifth panel is greater than a length of the first panel.
65. The container claimed in any one of claims 61 to 64, wherein the third panel in the series of panels is a base panel of the container. 15
66. The container claimed in any one of claims 61 to 65, wherein the second and fourth panels in the series of panels are opposed side wall panels of the container.
67. A method of constructing a container from the blank claimed in any one of claims 20 52 to 60, including the steps of: (a) folding a second panel of the series of panels so that it is substantially perpendicular to a third panel of the series of panels; (b) folding a fourth panel of the series of panels so that it is substantially perpendicular to the third panel; 25 (c) coupling flaps of the third panel to respective flaps of the second and fourth panels; (d) folding a first panel of the series of panels so that it is substantially perpendicular to the second panel; (e) coupling flaps of the first panel to respective flaps of the third panel; 30 (f) folding a fifth panel of the series of panels so that it is substantially perpendicular to the fourth panel; and WO 2013/131126 PCT/AU2013/000202 -42 (g) coupling flaps of the fifth panel to respective flaps of the third panel.
68. The method claimed in claim 67, wherein coupling includes the step of applying an adhesive. 5
69. A process for constructing a container from the blank claimed in any one of claims 52 to 60, including the steps of: (a) folding a second panel of the series of panels so that it is substantially perpendicular to a third panel of the series of panels; 10 (b) folding a fourth panel of the series of panels so that it is substantially perpendicular to the third panel; (c) coupling flaps of the third panel to respective flaps of the second and fourth panels; (d) folding a first panel of the series of panels so that it is substantially 15 perpendicular to the second panel; (e) coupling flaps of the first panel to respective flaps of the third panel; (f) folding a fifth panel of the series of panels so that it is substantially perpendicular to the fourth panel; and (g) coupling flaps of the fifth panel to respective flaps of the third panel. 20
70. The process claimed in claim 69, wherein coupling includes the step of applying an adhesive.
71. A blank for forming a container, including: 25 (a) a series of five panels arranged side by side so that neighbouring panels in the series share a common parallel side; and (b) pairs of flaps extending from opposed uncommon parallel sides of each one of said panels, wherein when the series of panels are arranged so that neighbouring panels are 30 substantially perpendicular with respect to each other: (i) flaps of the first panel overlie respective flaps of the second panel; WO 2013/131126 PCT/AU2013/000202 - 43 (ii) flaps of the third panel overlie respective flaps of the second and fourth panels; (iii) flaps of the fifth panel overlie respective flaps of the fourth panel; and 5 (iv) a free end of the fifth panel at least partially overlies a free end of the first panel.
72. The blank claimed in claim 71, wherein first and fifth panels in the series of panels each form part of a top panel of the container when the series of panels are 10 arranged so that neighbouring panels are substantially perpendicular with respect to each other.
73. The blank claimed in claim 71 or claim 72, wherein a third panel in the series of panels is a base panel of the container. 15
74. The blank claimed in any one of claims 71 to 73, wherein second and fourth panels in the series of panels are opposed side wall panels of the container.
78. A container for packaging one or more items, including: 20 (a) a series of five panels arranged side by side such that neighbouring panels in the series share a common parallel side and such that neighbouring panels are substantially perpendicular with respect to each other; (b) pairs of flaps extending from opposed uncommon parallel sides of each one of said panels; and 25 (c) fasteners coupling: (i) flaps of the first panel overlie respective flaps of the second panel; (ii) flaps of the third panel overlie respective flaps of the second and fourth panels; (iii) flaps of the fifth panel overlie respective flaps of the fourth panel; 30 and (iv) a free end of the fifth panel at least partially overlies a free end of WO 2013/131126 PCT/AU2013/000202 -44 the first panel.
79. The container claimed in claim 78, wherein the first and fifth panels in the series of panels each form part of a top panel of the container. 5
80. The container claimed in claim 78 or claim 79, wherein the third panel in the series of panels is a base panel of the container.
81. The container claimed in any one of claims 78 to 80, wherein the second and fourth 10 panels in the series of panels are opposed side wall panels of the container.
82. A method of constructing a container from the blank claimed in any one of claims 71 to 74, including the steps of: (a) folding a second panel of the series of panels so that it is substantially 15 perpendicular to a third panel of the series of panels; (b) folding a fourth panel of the series of panels so that it is substantially perpendicular to the third panel; (c) coupling flaps of the third panel to respective flaps of the second and fourth panels; 20 (d) folding a first panel of the series of panels so that it is substantially perpendicular to the second panel; (e) coupling flaps of the first panel to respective flaps of the second panel; (f) folding a fifth panel of the series of panels so that it is substantially perpendicular to the fourth panel; 25 (g) coupling flaps of the fifth panel to respective flaps of the fourth panel; and (h) coupling a free end of the fifth-panel to an underlying free end of the first panel.

A process for constructing a container from the blank claimed in any one of claims 71 to 74, including the steps of: (a) folding a second panel of the series of panels so that it is substantially perpendicular to a third panel of the series of panels; 5 (b) folding a fourth panel of the series of panels so that it is substantially perpendicular to the third panel; (c) coupling flaps of the third panel to respective flaps of the second and fourth panels; (d) folding a first panel of the series of panels so that it is substantially 10 perpendicular to the second panel; (e) coupling flaps of the first panel to respective flaps of the second panel; (f) folding a fifth panel of the series of panels so that it is substantially perpendicular to the fourth panel; (g) coupling flaps of the fifth panel to respective flaps of the fourth panel; 15 (h) coupling a free end of the fifth panel to an underlying free end of the first panel.
85. The process claimed in claim 84, wherein coupling includes the step of applying an adhesive.
