Description

Australia Patents Act 1990 Complete Specification Innovation Patent Muffin Stop Belt The following statement is a full description of this invention including the best method of performing it known to me Muffin Stop Belt Since fashions have defined the use of low cut garments such as jeans, pants and skirts, a widely used term namely "muffin top" has been used to describe the way abdominal skin is pushed above the waistband of these garments. There is also a problem with the back of these garments slipping down when normal movements and sitting down occurs. This invention is a belt devised to minimize the look of the abdominal skin around the garment waistband thus eliminating the "muffin top" effect by providing a light and constant compression to the abdominal circumference above the garment waistband, thus the name "Muffin Stop". A belt made in accordance with this invention has woven tape with snap-on buttons (two pieces of woven tape that snap together) or Velcro (two corresponding pieces of Velcro that adhere to each other) where one piece is sewn parallel and is centered horizontally and vertically inside of a fabric belt and the corresponding piece is attached at one edge of the former. To be worn, the said corresponding piece that is only connected at one edge of its counterpart is threaded through the belt loops of a garment, and then the other piece that is sewn onto the fabric belt is fastened to this piece thus fastening the belt to the garment. This creates a constant hold of the belt on the garment. The outer "fashion" part of the belt is then arranged above the band of the garment by the use of the fabric above the woven tape or Velcro (as this has been centered on the belt) thus covering and minimizing the appearance of the "muffin effect" by creating a light and constant compressing effect around the excess or pushed out abdominal skin. Then the belt is fastened (by the use of a buckle, lace up or sash style closure). The belt need only be partially removed (to the point where the garment closures such as buttons or zippers are present) to remove the garment.
The belt is made with garment fabric that contains some elastic properties with woven tape or Velcro for adhesion in the innovative component and then finished with a fashionable closure of laces, buckles or sash ties. The invention may be better understood with reference to the illustrations of embodiments of the invention which: Figure 1 and 2 are elevations of the "muffin Stop" belt with the woven tape or Velcro innovation clearly visible and marked. 6 shows the snap-on woven tape attached to the belt with x's marking the one side of the snap-on component of the woven tape and 7 Shows the woven tape that is attached only at the end of 6. This has dots to mark the other side of the snap-on component. 7 is the part that is passed through the belt loops of the garment, with 6 being then snapped onto 7. Figure 3. Is a view showing the belt on a garment fastened at the back and halfway around the front, demonstrating that the belt has been fastened and rises above the waistband of the garment, and: Figure 4. Shows a garment worn with the belt on one side demonstrating a smoothing and compression of the "muffin" effected area. This smoothing and compression as opposed to more tightening and further muffin effect is achieved by the elasticity of the fabric and is maintained by the adhesive effect of the woven tape or Velcro. 2. A belt as described in claim 1 wherein the piece of woven tape or Velcro attached only at its edge to the belt is used to thread through garment belt loops and fastens the belt to the garment by way of the corresponding snap-on woven tape or Velcro that is attached to the belt.
3. A garment belt according to claims 1 and 2 wherein the belt is made from a slightly elastic garment fabric with snap-on woven tape or Velcro attached to its underside.
4. A garment belt according to claims 1-3 where the belt has an adhesive effect to the garment it is applied thereon.
5. A garment belt substantially as herein described with reference to figures 1-4 of the accompanying drawings.
