Abstract

To maintain the sheet tension in the area of the impression cylinder, the impression cylinder (6) is fitted with a resilient covering (7) which is securely attached at the commencement of the printing area but which lies loosely on the continuous surface of the impression cylinder (6) at the end of the printing area. The resilient cover (7) is preferably capable of being drawn into the interior of the impression cylinder (6) at the commencement of the printing area and capable of being wound up on a winding device (15) so that the length of the resilient covering (7) lying on the surface of the impression cylinder is adjustable to match the sheet format to be processed.
