AT 398 285 B The invention relates to a four-high cold rolling mill for the production of sheets and foils with surface gloss quality, with rolls reduced in diameter in the working area, which only contact rollers interacting with them in —around areas of their roll shell. In conventional four-high rollers, the constant pressure contact of the work rollers with the back-up rollers creates lesions on the work rollers, making it impossible to produce glossy or glossy qualities using four-high stands. For the production of such qualities, duo rolling mills had to be used, which are much more expensive to buy and operate than four-high rolling mills. A four-high rolling mill is known from EP-A1-0 190 083, in which only one work roll in the io work area is reduced in diameter. The disadvantage here is that gloss rolling is only possible on one side. In addition, the different circumferential speed of the two work rolls in the work area has a negative effect on the rolling stock, which cannot be rolled regardless of the thickness because the work roll is set down. It is desirable to develop a four-high rolling mill for the production of a sheet or a film with rs improved gloss quality, which can also roll regardless of thickness. This is achieved according to the invention in that the two support rollers in the working area are reduced in diameter. Due to the fact that a low rolling pressure is used in gloss rolling compared to pure reduction rolling, the bending moments that occur on the work rolls are low and can only be absorbed by them. Supporting the work rolls over the full bale length of the roll by means of backup rolls is not necessary due to less deflection of the work rolls. The back-up rolls themselves are easily taken along by means of friction in the remaining contact surfaces between the work and back-up rolls. 25 This means that such a high-quality finish can be rolled in a four-high rolling mill through relatively small and simple modifications. It is not necessary to set up an additional dual work scaffold, which saves both investment costs and space costs. If a four-high rolling mill is not fully utilized in terms of capacity, it can be used as a glossy quality scaffold by temporarily retrofitting it, thus increasing the flexibility of production. 30 The invention is described with reference to the drawings below. 1 shows a four-high rolling mill with reduced work rolls. Fig. 2 shows an embodiment of the invention with reduced support rollers. The four-high rolling mill consists of two work rolls 1, 1 'and two backup rolls 2, 2', each of which is rotatably mounted about its axis of rotation 3, 3 'or 4, 4'. This storage is not shown in the drawings 35. In Fig. 1, the work rolls 1, 1 'in their cooperating work area are reduced symmetrically to their center line 5 in diameter. In FIG. 2, in the same way, instead of the work rolls 1, 1 ', the support rolls 2, 2' in the cooperating area with the work rolls 1, 1 'are reduced in diameter symmetrically to the center line 5. This reduction in diameter over the entire working range of the roll is decisive for the width range of the desired rolling stock, since only one rolling stock can be rolled up to the maximum width of the reduced working area. In the marginal zones, the working rollers 1, 1 'and the support rollers 2, 2' touch one another as in the case of excess four-high stands. In the area of the reduction of the rollers, they can be ground just as spherically as conventional ones. 45 claims 1.
