Abstract

Un proceso para la produccion de metil isobutil cetona que incluye introducir acetona en una destilacion catalítica. Algo de la acetona es convertida en alcohol de mesitilo ("MSO"), agua y, optativamente, alcohol de diacetona ("DAA") y/u otros subproductos. Una corriente de producto que comprende MSO, agua y, optativamente, DAA, otros sub-productos y/o acetona sin reaccionar se extrae de la zona de destilacion catalítica. Cuando la corriente de producto incluye DAA, otros sub-productos y/o acetona sin reaccionar, se trata en una zona de tratamiento para eliminar por lo menos algo del DAA, otros sub-productos y/o la acetona sin reaccionar de la misma. La corriente de producto y el hidrogeno se introducen dentro de una zona de reaccion en la cual el MSO que está presente en la corriente de producto y el hidrogeno reaccionan para formar metil isobutil cetona ("MIBK"). Una corriente de producto rica en MIBK es extraída de esta zona de reaccion.
