Abstract
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress a combustion variation between cycles when applying control for making an application period of a high voltage applied to an ignition plug overlap on a period of fuel injection by an injector to the activation of an exhaust emission purification catalyst.SOLUTION: During catalyst warmup control, first injection by an injector 30 is performed in an intake stroke, and second injection which is smaller than the first injection in an amount is performed in an expansion stroke subsequent to a compression top dead point. In the catalyst warmup control, in order to make a fuel spray by the second injection contact an initial flame which is generated from an air-fuel mixture containing a fuel spray by the first injection, an interval after a start of an ignition period by an ignition plug 32 up to a finish of the second injection is controlled by an ECU 40.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 14.
