Creation and refinement of a constitution for a co-operative
[edit]- Project name: FreeStateProjects
- Related pages: http://freestateprojects.org/wiki
- Contact person: User:Cyclotronwiki
- How many helpers needed: Just a few I think
- Qualification of helpers: Mediawiki tweaks / General wiki-ness and exploration of constitution building
- Date of request and durability of need: 18/02/2007 , Fairly ongoing
- Remark: Hi guys. We are creating a rural community upliftment and development project and have decided to register a co-operative as the legal vehicle rather than a non-profit company. In terms of the law that the co-operative will be registered under it requires a constitution. Its this constitution I want to continue developing via the wiki medium. We have already done a large amount of the work and I hope it is enough for you to see the spirit of how we'd like this constitution to turn out. Please google search for "international cooperative principles" to find out more about co-operatives if you dont know much about them.
So I have only just posted the constitution on the wiki and have yet to inform the general mailing list so the doors have yet to be thrown open so to speak. I wanted to post about it here first because I feel creating a constitution is something that would interest you guys but also especially one for an organisation that wants to work along the lines of mutual aid and co-operation, right up most wikipedians alley I would think!
The url for the constitution is here: http://freestateprojects.org/wiki/?title=Free_State_Projects_-_Constitution_Wiki
and I was wondering if a mediawiki pro could look at the problem I posted here: http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help_talk:User_rights under the title "Restriction for visitors not seeming to work" which is a simple request about stopping visitors (those not logged in) from creating any new pages (either article pages or talk pages).
Many thanks, I hope this can become something amazing.

Hide Letter-Headlines in Category-View

Some questions on how to handle symbols and names
[edit]- Project name: wiki ht
- Related pages: interwiki, category pages, edit page
- Contact person: Teksmeksh on ht
- How many helpers needed (if necessary): do not know, I suppose one will be fine
- Qualification of helpers (if necessary): admin or dev
- Date of request and durability of need : ASAP :)
- Remark (if necessary) : not quite sure if it the good page, but difficult to figure it out with such a huge product. Maybe the answers were in some other pages. Did not find them.
- a very small change to do for the local label of the language, visible on interwiki links:
krèyol ayisyen =>
kreyòl ayisyen.
How can we change that? I am not quite sure that is possible thru a local wiki. - the Haitian uses symbols of latin alphabet for its letters, but not exactly as the conventional ones. Some letters are written with two symbols (as an, ch). For the alphabetic order, it is quite important and detectable on the category pages.
Example on virtual words: instead of
ab, an, ar, ob, on, or, it will be
ab, ar, an, ob, or, on.
How can we define the alphabet in a local wiki? - The haitian alphabet also uses some accented symbols not easy to reach thru keyboards. We saw that in other wikipedias, the edit page have on their bottom part a list of those accented symbols..
How ca we add them for our own edit page? - We stopped to upload images when we saw available equivalent images on the commons site. Nevertheless, names of those images are in English.
Is it possible to add a sort of namespace table containing local names for each local wiki?
Try to explain: If a local wiki wants an image, the program checks first in the local wiki. If it is not found, it requests to the common wiki. If the image is not found, the common wiki can check in its namespace representing the local wiki if the name of this image is there.
Example: in the article Ayiti on ht wiki, we could insert the image AyitiAnplasman.png. This image does not exist in ht wiki and does not exist neither in the common wiki, but the namespace ht in commons contains a link AyitiAnplasman.png => Haiti Location.png. Or a link AyitiAnplasman.png => <internal mediawiki id for image>. This id used by all languages as Haiti Location.png => <internal mediawiki id for image>.
Interpretation of Criteria
[edit]I am currently in a dispute that is undergoing mediation. The process has bogged down over the interpretation of criteria. Specifically, [WP:BLP] states Negative information related to a person's notability should be mentioned if solidly verifiable, e.g. plagiarism by an artist, fraud by a scientist, doping use by a sports person, etc. Remember that verifiability requires direct evidence from reliable sources regarding the subject of the article specifically. Beware of claims that rely on guilt by association, or other generalizations. To me this says that you cannot place information in an article about a living person if it infers guilt by association, ie. if it links two people so that the reader may be lead to assume that information that he has about one person will apply to the other. My opponent won't acknowledge this.
There used to be a section on guilt by association in the Wikipedia:Verifiability [WP:V] guideline, but it was removed a month ago. I cannot find a reason for its removal. You can read it here [1].
If you feel yourself knowledgeable about the guidelines and want to put your two cents in I would appreciate it. The article is here [2] and the mediation subpage here [3]. Engjs 11:49, 10 March 2006 (UTC)
Interwiki of Serbo-Croatian Wikipedia

- How many helpers needed (if necessary): Dozens. Many. Can't have too many.
- Qualification of helpers (if necessary): Multilingual highly valued, but we just need people. Our deletion requests routinely stretch back to two months. It's tedious but important. Our "speedy" deletion is a mockery of the term. We need real translations of pages other than the main page, so that people can really migrate their image uploads to the Commons without feeling it's English dominated. Also, the more that we can involve local project users the better communication there will be between them and Commons, and that can only be a good thing.
- Date of request and durability of need: 14:48, 1 April 2006 (UTC) For the forseeable future, I would say
- Remark (if necessary): I'm not too sure anyone reads this, but let's give it a try... Commons suffers from a lack of volunteers with dedication to the Commons for tasks including translation, deletion (we need admins, especially multilingual ones), image license/source-checking, category maintenance, gallery maintenance, and pretty much anything else you can think of that isn't as much fun as uploading images or Featured pictures. Thankyou.

Red Army crimes presentation in wikipedia
[edit]Recently I've heard, that total nazzi victims is more than 20 million and comunusm - about 100 mln! I've began to study this more carefully starting from the article Red army crimes in Lithuania. Soon coordinated attack of some slavian started - one of them bielorussian in militarry Mikalaj uses nickname like Finnish - Mikka but they havn't discussed - only started deleting voting procedure with absurd. This is antidemocratic practice, when such important and terrible theme is trying to delete without real discussion.
I suppose that the list of crimes is interesting for specialists of justice and history, so I presented historical list of crimes of Red Army commited in some other countries too.
Please support project about the crimes of different armies.

Hello. Would you please help us. I have several questions and Im getting frustrated coz I cant find help over at meta. I cant get any help from any steward of beureacrat. At metapub, I was asked to find a developer whom I can ask these questions.
I would like to know exactly when was the exact date Meta approved the creation of Chavacano Wikipedia http://cbk-zam.wikipedia.org. I have searched at the archives but I just really cannot determine what specific date it was approved for its creation.
When Chavacano wikipedia started last year, I didnt know how to go about translating the interface and the language file. I was just told by an admin of Spanish wikipedia to ask for admin permission and translate the messages here:
http://cbk-zam.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Allmessages
I got the adminship and translated most of the messages. The interface was indeed translater, but was I on the right track? I noticed a newly created wikipedia http://bcl.wikipedia.org did not translate its
http://bcl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Allmessages
but its interface is translated! So how did it happen?
Another question is, how come cbk-zam or Chavacano is not an option in the language preference of a user in another wikipedia? For example, at the English Wikipedia or here in Meta, if you go to your user preferences, Chavacano is not included as an option for the language interface. How do we make cbk-zam a part of a user language option? In cbk-zam.wikipedia.org, cbk-zam is there as an option, but not in other wikis.
Also, I would like to know where I can have the wikimedia configure the user preference in our Chavacano wikipedia. Whenever we configure the language option in our user preferences in http://cbk-zam.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Preferences cbk-zam is listed as cbk-zam - cbk-zam which is wrong. It should be cbk-zam - Chavacano de Zamboanga. How do I do the correction? I am the sysop of cbk-zam.wikipedia.org. And finally, where will I do the necessary translation of the wikipedia donation to Chavacano that appears on every page? Thanks. I would really appreciate if anyone can help us. Thanks. --Weekeejames 13:20, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
- Hi Weekeejames, as for the translations, they are usually done at translatewiki: because if translated there the translations are active not only for one project but for all projects where this language is default or selected in the preferences.
- If You are interested in getting Your language integrated into translatewiki.net You will be very welcomed there, the translations You did on Your wiki even can be imported to translatewiki.net, where You can change them to work for all wikis. If You are interested, just create an account there and leave a message on translatewiki:Project:Translator, thanks, best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 13:42, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
- Oh ok. When our wikipedia was created last year, there was no translatewiki.net. I will try to go to translatewiki.net and work from there. I still need to know when Meta approved the creation (exact date) of our Chavacano wikipedia and the correction of cbk-zam - cbk-zam to cbk-zam - Chavacano de Zamboanga on our user preference at the Chavacano wikipedia. --Weekeejames 14:09, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
- Hi, well it did, but too few people knew (and still do :( ) about it. However I am looking forward to welcome You there :)

Qualification of helpers (if necessary): Ability to translate between Dutch, English, French and German to Croatian, Finnish, Italian, Polish, Prortuguese, Russian and Spanish.
Date of request and durability of need: February 19, 2008, until Dutch, English, French, German and Spanish projects are fully harmonized with each other and 50% of Croatian, Finnish, Polish, Portugese and Russian are harmonized with any of the 5 primary projects.
Remark (if necessary): Majority of the available modern references are available in either English and French. Dutch, German and few other projects have used these materials to form a comprehensive set of articles quicker than either the English or French projects. However, Croatian, Finnish, Italian, Polish, Prortuguese and Spanish seems to be either greatly lagging in article coverages or in their depth of article coverages or have inaccurate/outdated information due to lack of access to modern references.

Assistance needed for a political / legal issue in Germany
[edit]On the Wikipedia of Ripuarian languages, there was a new user page created:
This page pretty explicitly refers to the fact that, in Germany, public display of Nazi symbols and some related things is prohibited by federal law, except for scientific and pure informational and documentation purposes. While the user apparently calls for removal of SS-Runes from his user page so as to later brag about being a "victim of censorship", the image comes from the Wikimedia commons repository, where it supposedly can be legally held.
I believe, since the Ripuarian languages are mainly used within a limited area in West Germany and in neighboring communities in Belgium, and the Netherlands, we should likely try to comply with German law and regulations in the same way, the German Wikipedia does, except that we are using a minority language having its own rules about style and decency.
My question now is, are we required to remove the image? I would not do that unless necessary, since I believe the user is making a fool out of himself anyways with his user page; who are we to keep him from doing so?
Please advise.
P.S. I am not interested in opinion, only sound legal facts, please.

The Croatian Wikipedia Incident
[edit]Hello. I am not aware if this is the precise page to post things such like this, but I am sure someone will be able to point me towards the right direction, should I be wrong.
I am a contributor of the Croatian Wikipedia known there as User:NI. I am writing here a complaint regarding a very unfortunate near-scandal which is erupting at the Wikipedia in Croatian language, as a last resort to the try to solve the ongoing problems. I am aware that this might not be an act of good faith towards the fellow-Croatian wikipedians in question, but abuse of the Wikipedia is that which it is => abuse. I shall try to be as concise and exact as possible.
It all started when I created the Bokeljski Srbi article, an article on the Serbs from the Bay of Kotor. Within moments it was deleted. I have originally assumed that it was a software error, so I recreated and rewrote the article. It took only seconds before it was again deleted, and this time locked in an effort to prevent any possibility of recreation in the future. I have discovered that the administrator that deleted it was SpeedyGonsales, however he left the summary completely blank, leaving in ignorance anyone who would want to write an article and become wondered why he or she is prevented from doing so. I will know translate excerpts from the talk pages of this administrator, Ante Perkovic and myself; so that anyone willing to assist will be able to jump to conclusions by him/herself.
Bokeljski Srbi
What seems to be the problem? --NI (razgovor) 15:59, 21. lipanj 2008. (CEST)
- There is no problem. SpeedyGonsales 16:00, 21. lipanj 2008. (CEST)
- Then why do you disallow...? :)
- "This title was from creation protected by User SpeedyGonsales, under argument of [none]."
- Is this even allowed at all? --NI (razgovor) 16:13, 21. lipanj 2008. (CEST)
- We cannot link something to that which it isn't. You are reverting my contributive changes. The Bokeljski Hrvati is an article - and wiki links that are in that article do not lead to its corresponding, but to a totally another one. --NI (razgovor) 18:16, 21. lipanj 2008. (CEST)
- Google results for the name of the new article: Results 1 - 8 of 8 (of which one is a result from the Croatian Wikipedia, which means totally 7 hits, of which none is relevant).
- There are several reasons why the creation of the mentioned article was prevented:
- The Wikipedia is not a place for propaganda, or for publishing original research. Please read carefully WP:NOT (that's why the article was deleted)
- memebers of all sorts of peoples reside across the globe, and so there are also Serbs elsewhere than in Serbia, also in Montenegro, Croatia, Malasya and Thailand. However neither English nor Serbian Wikipedias have articles Podgorica Serbs, Rijeka Serbs, Kuala-Lumpur Serbs, Bangkok SErbs, so neither does this belong in here (that is why the article was deleted)
- the article was recreated after an administrator deleted it with a good reason (that is why its creation is prevented)
- Concerning the wikilinks, they are there with a reason, and their continual removal is vandalism. Kind regards. SpeedyGonsales 20:29, 21. lipanj 2008. (CEST)
- Does that mean that there is some unique Wikipedian rule which decides that on the Wikipedia there can be only article with a precise predetermined minimal number of Google hits? Can I know which is it? For as it seems to me, there is no such thing on the English Wikipedia.
- That is not correct. The Serbian Wikipedia has an article on Zagreb Serbs.
- Can you show me any such example, [regarding the addition of inter-wiki links which do not lead to the corresponding articles, but different ones] anywhere, not just in the Croatian, but anywhere in any Wikipedia, or in the entire Wikipedia Project? For to me it seems as if this is the very sole one. --NI (razgovor) 02:05, 22. lipanj 2008. (CEST)
- You have not read WP:NOT. If you did, you would know that something which is not found in any material encyclopedia, which isn't found even on the Google, equally does not belong to the Wikipedia. The English Wikipedia DOES have such rule, but as for the rules, every Wikipedia is autonomous, linking one to another will not help you.
- The Serbs in Zagreb article does not fulfill Wikipedia's standards, but since I am not an administrator on sr wiki, I have no intention to mettle in there.
- For the last time I ask of you: read WP:NOT in detail. Thank you! SpeedyGonsales 14:33, 22. lipanj 2008. (CEST)
- Thanks, thanks, I indeed have...I just cannot understand the existence of the "Bokeljski Hrvati" [Croats of the Bay of Kotor] article, which has on the Google only about 50 hits (not much more than the Boka Serbs), and is nowhere in any single material encyclopedia?
- Then I suggest that you refer to the Serbs in Vankuver, which, as the Serbs in Mostar article too, fulfill the required standards. Cheers, --NI (razgovor) 15:06, 22. lipanj 2008. (CEST)
- I may be boring, but there is absolutely no reason to ignore me :-) --NI (razgovor) 20:46, 22. lipanj 2008. (CEST)
- No one is being ignored, but I failed to see what question requires an answer. The Bokeljski Hrvati on Google gives: Results 1 - 10 of closely 7,080 for bokeljski hrvati. Google results. That's about it.
- The place to mention your own people in a same-named article, if we shall have for instance Serbs in the Bay of Kotor, then we also must have Croats in Belgrade, Croats in Podgorica, Croats in Kuala Lumpur, which is nonsensical. If the Wikipedia can on some other language tolerate such a thing, it is their problem (it could only be about the slowness of the admins :-), but the Wikipedia on the Croatian language still has no article of the type "Ivan Ivic sneezed in the House of the Big Brother" :D
- Before continuing the writing to each other, I would ask of you not to just read, but also think about WP:NOT for at least 2-3 days. OK? SpeedyGonsales 21:07, 22. lipanj 2008. (CEST)
- Speedy, take a closer look, you have made an error. Bokeljski Hrvati: Results 1 - 10 of closely 177 for "bokeljski hrvati" (0.04 sec.) I really fail to see how could you possible reach a figure of 7.080, when even the link you gave me does not show that figure.
- Well that's the catch - we already have the Croats in the Bay of Kotor. :) On the English Wikipedia we have the Russians in Korea. Carelessness of the administrators is surely not the case, because then they themselves would not take part in the creation of such articles, which are found both in the English and Serbian Wikipedias. Another good example are, for example, the Greeks in Omaha, Nebraska.
- I have read it several times (and thought through it a lto), but I still fail to understand your interpretation of WP:NOT, or better said your application of it, to be more precise. Perhaps the problem is in me, but I simply do not see where is the logic in there. Could you perhaps elaborate?
- Could you also explain me the problem regarding the interwiki links? Cheers, --NI (razgovor) 21:51, 22. lipanj 2008. (CEST)
- Speedy, what are we going to do, shall we delete the Bokeljski Hrvati, or create Bokeljski Srbi? --NI (razgovor) 01:56, 25. lipanj 2008. (CEST)
- 72 hours have passed, so I ask are the answer to the following questions clear:
- Why there is no place on the Wikipedia for an article which in its title links the term Serbs and Bokelji?
- Why there is no place on the Wikipedia for articles which link certain peoples and certain cities?
- Why are wikilinks not deleted if an administrator puts them somewhere?
- Where the 72 hours sufficient time to think in an attempt to clear up thoughts? SpeedyGonsales 04:22, 25. lipanj 2008. (CEST)
- Nothing has changed at all, because everything was clear to me from the start, but you have still not managed to explain the existence of an article that in its title links the terms Bokelji and Croats. If you are unable to do that, I shall post a question at the Village Pump, hoping that someone shall clear up these issues, as we obviously do not understand each other. :::::::::Boka is no city, but a geo-historical region. And even if it were, I fail to comprehend how it applies to the Bokan Serbs and Bokan Croats differently.
- I have not understood you regarding the wikilinks.
- Have you rechecked your Google findings?
- Cheers, --NI (razgovor) 05:01, 25. lipanj 2008. (CEST)
A short contact with another administrator, Sombrero, follows (I took the standard procedure of contacting another administrator, before approaching the Village Pump):
Sombrero, SpeedyGonsales has repeatedly reverted this change of mine, and subsequently protected the article in order to prevent me from editing it, but I consider my edits justified. As the matter on the talk page (of the referred administrator) still isn't resolved, I am withholding myself from editing the article in order to evade an edit war. --NI (razgovor) 18:43, 23. lipanj 2008. (CEST)
- Hello
- I haven't seen what has been going on between you and Speedy, just as I didn't see what's between you and Zeljko. References should help so that we stop keep boring each other with these matters.--Pancho W. Villa (razgovor) 15:18, 24. lipanj 2008. (CEST)
- Sombrero, is the article Bokeljski Hrvati a potential candidate for deletion on the basis of WP:NOT? Google gives drastically little search results for it. --NI (razgovor) 02:07, 25. lipanj 2008. (CEST)
Another with an ordinary User by the name of Zeljko:
I will answer you...but first you need to stop harassing Ante and Speedy...I would not let you do that, and it needs sanctioning [..] For further on wait for two weeks, and leave our administrators alone. Greetings on another occasion, when you perhaps liberate yourself from GreaterSerbian pretensions. --Zeljko (razgovor) 10:55, 25. lipanj 2008. (CEST)
- I would really like to hear that from their mouth, because I sincerely believe that they do not think that I am harassing them. All I want is respect of Wikipedia's rules. There is a specified system of rules that comprises the basis of the Croatian Wikipedia, and the current entire problematic around the Bokelji is exceedingly self-contradictory according to the order of rules which comprises the basis of the Wikipedia in Croatian language.
- Everything is very nice, but all that still doesn't make the subject Bokeljski Hrvati relevant enough to have its own article.
- I have no GreaterSerbian, or any pretensions, except those which are directed towards the rules of the Croatian Wikipedia. Perhaps I am not completely neutral, I do not know who is, but I try as hard as I can and I always make an effort to base my contributions on the Croatian Wikpedia in accordance to her rules, and in here we have reached a huge blockade in that course. --NI (razgovor) 14:43, 25. lipanj 2008. (CEST)
- Who is the one that can delete hundreds of years of their famous history, you? [..] so as you see the Bokans are Croats faithful to their Croatian homeland, Zagreb, etc...they meet there and not in Belgrade...the Croats of the Bay of Kotor bother you, and that's why you delete everything...we have known that for quite a long time. --Zeljko (razgovor) 22:41, 25. lipanj 2008. (CEST)
- No one can delete anyone culture or history. Or better said that is not possible. It can be oppressed and everything can happen, but deletion has never been in the history possible. I am not bothered by the Croats in the Bay of Kotor, nor am I bothered by the Albanians of Tuzi, or anyone else. If you are talking about my proposals to delete the Bokeljski Hrvati article, it has got nothing to do with me, but with Wikipedia's policy. The subject does not fulfill the necessary requirements to have an article of its own. I suggest that you insert everything about the Croats of the Bay of Kotor into the [Bokelji article. --NI (razgovor) 22:58, 25. lipanj 2008. (CEST)
- The Croats from Boka still do not know whether history shall revalue the contribution of the Bokelji, shall the forgeries written by Serbo-Montenegrin "academists" be deleted and missing chapters in Croatian school textbooks filled. --Zeljko (razgovor) 23:04, 25. lipanj 2008. (CEST)
- Zeljko, I do not deny any of that, but here simply the existence of the article is not in accordance to the Croatian Wikipedia's policy. --NI (razgovor) 23:14, 25. lipanj
- So on the Croatian Wikipedia, you deny the writing of articles about Croatian history, because you don't think that it is in the spirit of the Croatian Wikipedia. I am so sorry. And can we write about the history of the Bushmen, is that in the spirit of the Wikipedia? --Zeljko (razgovor) 23:21, 25. lipanj 2008. (CEST)
- It has got nothing to do with the spirit of Wikipedia, but its rules. Regardin the Bushmen, they are a notable enough subject, which is not the case for the Bokan Croats. --NI (razgovor) 10:20, 26. lipanj 2008. (CEST)
- The Croats of the Bay of Kotor have their own cultural and historical identity. For their uniqueness and long history, for their culture and everything they have created, they deserve an article of their own...and Serb-Catholics in GreaterSerbian policy are needed only to insure the transcendence of the great Croatian Catholic-cultural heritage into Serbian hands. Precisely because of that we need to write about them, and as the historians recommend stop the GreaterSerbian lies and forging of the past. I have already given you a link for this. You have taken a too big bite, and for it you are on Cro-Wiki for far too long. What kind of a war you are leading. --Zeljko (razgovor) 10:52, 26. lipanj 2008. (CEST)

And finally, the one with the administrator that blocked me, Ante Perkovic:
Regarding the wikilinks, I think you have not understood me. The article Bokelji leads to the Bokelji on other Wikipedias, but so does the Bokeljski Hrvati. I do not know if such between-wikilinks are regulated by some specific rule (if I am wrong, please enlighten me), but I am convinced that such an occasion is to be found nowhere, on the Croatian Wikipedia or the others.
Cheers, --NI (razgovor) 19:28, 23. lipanj 2008. (CEST)

- You were already told to wait. Don't be difficult to handle. --Ante Perkovic (razgovor) 19:41, 25. lipanj 2008. (CEST)
- ..If you were told to wait, then wait, and don't tire us with a million of new questions and subquestions. The Wikipedia has over 44,000 articles. Most of them are not about Montenegro, and someone needs to take care of them too.
- So, first the references go. Then we remove the things that are personal commentaries or interpretations, and not referenced data. Then we compile the referenced data in an order to put them in their true context, that is to uncover what is a generally acceptable fact, and what is the attitude of an individual or a small group of scientists (especially if they all come from the same country!). When we clear that up, then we shall see what remains, shall we merge, and where which interwiki goes.
- If you think you will be bored for the following weeks, surf the internet and search for references for the text you think should be added into the article. --Ante Perkovic (razgovor) 19:53, 25. lipanj 2008. (CEST)
- I have understood everything, and I apologize for seeming tiresome, but the key question remains unresolved, and I think that you have not seen it: and that is why the Bokeljski Srbi article is automatically deleted without a single moment of chance, and now even locked to prohibit its recreation until further notice. On the other hand, we have the Bokeljski Hrvati which not only no one dares to touch, but even defends, using double standards on one side for Croats and on the other for Serbs. --NI (razgovor) 21:18, 25. lipanj 2008. (CEST)
- What you call an article was a single sentence, and a wrong one. --Ante Perkovic (razgovor) 06:25, 26. lipanj 2008. (CEST)
- You are referring to the Serb Bokelji? Well, the article was only just created, and as I can see - thank the heavens that I only started with a single sentence and then with sections, because had I dedicated a far greater effort into it, the entire text would've been deleted - is it not so? :) What do you mean wrong one? --NI (razgovor) 10:48, 26. lipanj 2008. (CEST)
Now, what followed after this post of mine, was a two-week block from Ante Perkovic. It happened right while I was preparing to head over to the Croatian Village Pump and introduce the broader Croatian Wikimedian community to our dispute(s). In the summary he wrote:
“ | Ignoring of instructions. Now we shall finally have 2 weeks of peace, to settle the references. | ” |
First of, the event came as a huge shock to me. I then, according to standard procedure, attempted to contact the administrator that blocked me, but prevented from doing so over at the Croatian Wikipedia, I came here, to the English Wikipedia, where Ante Perkovic is an active user. I wrote the following:
Ante, why have you blocked me from the Croatian Wikipedia?
You have cut me right in the process of accumulation of sources and references for the Creation of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes article, and which are of crucial value. This is not related to the Bokelji.
As for the Bokelji, I assume you had good intentions when you did this, in order to grant Zeljko the needed time to acquire sources for the Bokeljski Hrvati article within the determined time period, but all I am trying to do is save him from worthless effort. The first thing we must solve is the article's very existence in the Croatian Wikipedia, because it is against the valid rules and guidelines of the (Croatian) Wikipedia. In case the article gets deleted, the entire work of Zeljko or anyone else would be flushed down the toilette.
Kind regards, --NICrneGore (talk) 12:50, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
Ante Perkovic's first response to this was an immediate & numb reversion of my edit to his talk page in here. Then I wrote a very short message:
Now you are really not acting very nicely.
What seems to be the problem? --NICrneGore (talk) 16:16, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
- You were blocked because you are boring like diarrhea and because you are acting like a brat that constantly demands attention, as if your "problem" is the only one on the Wikipedia. As if we admins have no other job but to look for if someone looked at you the wrong way. And not just that, but you even opened an account here just to bother me.
- You were instructed to wait, until Zeljko gathers the references, and you ask every moment this and that and you even dare to comment that your pathetic article with just one sentence anyway deleted, which is, if you really want a technical explanation assuming bad faith.
- Normally said - you are irritating and you constantly bother people by permanent nagging.
- Understand that the Wikipedia exists on the principle of good will and enjoyment of those who work on it. If you go everyone on their nerves, there is no force or law that can protect you. And, anyone who wants to help you, very soon regrets for every doing that.
- We can solve the controversial issues without you.
- Here, read Don't be a dick.
- I hope you understand. If not, I don't give a damn. --Ante Perkovic (talk) 16:24, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
- Oh I have exposed good faith, very, very much, since I haven't thought about the worst in any moment: that this is all about stereotype based on ethnic prejudice. But, very sadly, after all this, I simply do not think that there is any left room to consider other options, so I think it is only fair to conclude here that that is the most likely possibility, that that's the key element to our conflict over at the Croatian Wikipedia.
- As I think you have approached in a manner that does not suite an administrator, I am forced to seek other methods of complaint. I hope you shall understand.
- Greetings; I am very, very sorry that this incident is slowly growing into a scandal, --NICrneGore (talk) 17:27, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
I am very much aware that all the little Wikipedias cannot be managed all the time because of their small size and that they are prone to falling under authoritarian control or regime of one course, but if I am not mistaken, there must be some means, some mechanism which exists whenever such possibly exceedingly deep administrator irresponsibility erupts on the Wikipedia. It is to my personal opinion that the double standards used on Croats and Serbs, from the controversy originating in my discussion with SpeedyGonsales, are indeed true and are completely outrageous and unacceptable. It is also worthwhile to point out that it is the duty of the administrator that deletes an article, locks it, or even bans its recreation after deletion, to give the correct and fundamental justification / explanation for his/her acts; and as we can see to the up (mind the discussion with Zeljko, which seems to be a case of trolling), the happenings so far are a very sharp assault on logic itself. Regarding the wiki links, they represent yet another grave breach of Wikipedia's policy. As for the two-week block with a highly uncivil tone and possibly assuming bad faith himself (Ante Perkovic), I uphold that it was completely uncalled for and unjustifiable, possibly another misuse of administration rights.
I hope anyone will be able to assist. --NICrneGore 21:24, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
Reply from croatian wikipedia admin
[edit]- Yes, I will be able to assist.
- You were blocked for breaking the WP:AGF, in the part you even translated here: You are referring to the Serb Bokelji? Well, the article was only just created, and as I can see - thank the heavens that I only started with a single sentence and then with sections, because had I dedicated a far greater effort into it, the entire text would've been deleted - is it not so? :)
- Also, constant complaints on ethnic-related misconduct is also very tiresom. You have been contributing to croatian wikipedia for years. If we wanted to remove you, you would have been blocked long ago.
- Note that I tried to help you because your oponent gets on my nervs, but in just few days, you menaged to become more irritant than he is. You make crazy everyone who tries to help you.
- You keep disturbing wikipedia by acting like a spoiled kid with no patience. You drive people crazy and you even went to english wikipedia to harras me. I reacted very rude, which is not nice, and I ussualy do not react in that way, but I also do not see such a stubborn users who do not understand words "yes, but later".
- A week ago, we (admins) started a little project of countering systematic croatian bias on croatian wikipedia. For example, here you can see bosnian Croat(!) who asks sources for pro-Croatian parts of the text, so we could have referenced claims, not pro-Croatian essays.
- We have similar situation on Montenegro-related articles, which overemphasise some theories about Montenegro and Red Croatia, but without references. This caused endless discussions on this subject. In order to remove systematic pro-Croatian bias, we decided to ask main pro-Croatian contributor to find references or to remove disputed text. This guy is a bit older, and slow with the computors. He wrote few thousants articles, but learn rules very slow. We teached him how to put references in the articles and gave him 2 weeks to clean the disputed articles. After that, the plan is to remove all the essay-like parts, and to represent claims in the right context, so the reader could distinguish well-known facts from exotic theories of some croatian scientists. The idea is - if we solve this, all other related problems will me much much more easier to solve. So, NI was asked (3 times!) to be patient, and not to bother admins on related problems until we solve the core problem. He didn't wanted to listen.
- So, NI, we decided to block you for 2 weeks so you do not make everyone involved in anty-bias project crazy. If you want to collect references, you know very well that blocking can't stop you and that you can do it here, in your private namespace, and copy it wherever you want later.
- My advice is: learn to be patient and try not to make everyone crazy by constant asking for attenttion and crying that noone likes you because you are not Croat. I hope you will learn something from this. --Ante Perkovic 06:29, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
- OK. I understand and I apologize if my actions might've seemed too hasty. In the meantime I am collecting sources and writing an article of the Serbs of the Bay of Kotor.
- Kindest regards, Ante --NICrneGore 01:28, 7 July 2008 (UTC)
The scandal continues
[edit]The administrator who previously made outrageously irresponsible arguments has just blocked me for 48 hours. --NICrneGore 19:30, 12 July 2008 (UTC)
The personal war continues
[edit]Who is hr:user:NI? NI is greater-serbian troll who's only job here is to provoke croatian wikipedians and to make Croats look bad in general. His area of interest is Bay of Kotor (hr: Boka, Boka kotorska). Few examples of his provocations:
- 1. Proposing deletion of the article about Croats:
- At July 12 2008, he complained to existence of the article hr:Bokeljski Hrvati (Croats of Boka kotorska, Montenegro), based on google hits (Google: "Bokeljski Hrvati" -wikipedia - 94 results).
- At the same time, he was trying to write an article about Serbs of Boka kotorska (Google: "Bokeljski Srbi" -wikipedia - 10 results). The article used greater-serbian lies (like the one in point 2.), and was deleted for that reason. Of course, he complained here.
- Later, he was warned (July 12 2008), at his talk page, that it is very strange for a user to insist on deleting the article about Croats based on Google hits (94 hits), while, at the same time insisting on writing the article about Serbs in Boka (10 hits). Despite that, he decides to ignore this note, so he repeates (July 14th 2008) his trolling request, using double standards.
- 2. He has greater-serbian propaganda on his user page:
- At his hr-wiki user page, he has false information about Serbs being great majority in Boka kotorska. He uses words Bay of Kotor in Montenegro is the only part of coast inhabited exclusively by Serbs.
- Idea that all people from Boka are Serbs is often used by greater-serbian ideologists. But, ethnic map at commons:Image:Bay of Kotor ethnic map 2003.png shows that it is a lie. Boka is area with extremely mixed ethnic composition and only a few very little willages has Serbian or Montenegrin majority above 75%. More than half willages have less that 60% of predominant nation. NI was warned 7 days ago that he has very provokative missinformation on his user page, but he still keeps that piece of greater-serbian propaganda on his user page.
How he operates? He complaints and complaints and complaints... until admin gets sick of that and either block him (for good reason - disturbing the wikipedia), or loose his nervs and becomes rude (like Ante did). IMHO, he should have been blocked for disturbing the wikipedia long time ago. He disturbes croatian wikipedia, and there is a real chance that he will disturb the meta too. --89.164.34.155 08:06, 23 July 2008 (UTC)
Addition to "Who is hr:user:NI", who used user:NICrneGore account here:
According to block log (see 02:42, 18 July 2008) of en:User:PaxEquilibrium, NICrneGore is a sockpuppet of en:User:PaxEquilibrium, who had between 17 and 21 more sockpuppets and sis blocked forever. So much about this troll. --78.3.85.92 06:59, 1 August 2008 (UTC)
Reason for blocking?
[edit]"You were blocked because you are boring like diarrhea and because you are acting like a brat that constantly demands attention." Is that a reason? What kind of admins you got... Shame. Also NI, help yourself reading WP:GOOGLEHITS on that awful admin Speedy. Google hits are not a reason for deletion. And "Gonzales" is with "z", from Portuguese version of the surname... --Fluence 17:10, 18 July 2008 (UTC-5)
- He knows that (WP:GOOGLEHITS), Fluence. He knows that very well. He just likes trolling. And, he does not like Croats, specialy not Croats in Bay of Kotor, that are thorn in the side of greater-serbian ideologists. --89.164.34.155 08:09, 23 July 2008 (UTC)
For Modern Nahuatl automatic conversion
[edit]Hi, I came here as I got lost and didn't know where else to go. I'm here requesting help to have automatic conversion language tabs for the Nahuatl Wikipedia ([5]) such as the ones found over the Chinese Wikipedia. The reasons are as follow:
- Nahuatl has over 30 dialect variants, mainly in writing systems (though all in the Latin Alphabet).
- We've been using the Classical Nahuatl writing since 2006, but this is mostly considered a dead language with only 3,000 native speakers; however, modern nahuatl has over 1.5 million speakers in Mexico.
- As an effort to help the language, I suggest to create at least two tabs for now: [ngu] (Guerrero Nahuatl dialect) and [nlv] (Orizaba Nahuatl dialect).
- Alphabet changes are not needed, but only some letters and words; for example, all qu would be converted to k or ch to tx, digraphs.
- Several discussions have been placed in order for us to use modern nahuatl, as well some people wishing to keep classical nahuatl. This would end all kinds of unnecessary complains.
If anyone is able to help me, I'd be very grateful.--Fluence 17:20, 16 July 2008 (UTC-5)
- Forget it. I already took care of that...--Fluence 19:24, 19 July 2008 (UTC-5)
Extensions Intersection and DynamicPageList
[edit]The naming of these extensions is highly confusing, I am just digging my way through:
- Intersection uses a DynamicPageList tag and is based on DynamicPageList.php
- DynamicPageList uses a DPL tag and is based on DynamicPageList2.php,
- Extension:DynamicPageList2 is yet another thing - and obsolete).
Well there is little that can be done about the name confusion, but the documentation should make it as clear as possible. Problems I am asking help for:
- The content of DynamicPageList (which is extension:intersection, not extension:DynamicPageList) is marked as "should be ported" but has not been ported. Please someone do it to reduce the confusion.
- Talk:DynamicPageList has been ported, but to the wrong extension, i.e. to Extension:DynamicPageList. Please correct this. Many thanks, I know this unloved work. --Vigilius 20:12, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
Anglo-Saxon wikis
[edit]- URL: ang.wikipedia.org, ang.wikibooks.org, ang.wikiquote.org, ang.wiktionary.org
- Contact: on ang. User:James; on en. User:JamesR1701E
- Request: We have one or two users that insist they be able to use the letters wynn and the Carolignian g or yogh. Is there some way to have a user preference to render the w as wynn and the g as ᵹ or ȝ, so that a user entering wig could see either ƿiȝ or ƿiᵹ?
- Date: Jan 7 2009.
- Signed: --JJohnson1701 01:54, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
- I guess that is a font problem, if the user has no font installed for these characters he will not see them, there are other languages with similar problems, they usually link to a page (from the mainpage or sitenotice) where the user could download a font for his computer, that supports that script.
- Best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 02:39, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
- Just for clarification about the request, some users prefer to view (for example) this phrase "wiþ gegaðerian" as wiþ gegaðerian, while others prefer to view it as ƿiþ ȝegaðerian (where ȝ is used along side g, to indicate different sound environments, just as þ and ð are used), or possibly as wiþ ġegaðerian or as ƿiþ ġegaðerian. The inquiry is about the option of a User Preference about how to view these special characters, such as how there is a User Preference for viewing Date Formatting. One important point to remember is that some instances of g are always rendered as g, while other instances are sometimes rendered as ȝ (while, at the same time, some people prefer to view gȝ simply as gg). There arent really any standardizations about orthography, so this User Preference option would help resolve conflicts about what direction to take. —Wōdenhelm 03:16, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
- I was suspecting it to be a font issue, wherein the user would simply have to switch to a custom created font, likely one where the 'w' has been replaced with 'ƿ', edited in a font editor, and the dotted g replaced with a standard g for some users as well...doesn't seem to be a very elegant solution, though. --JJohnson1701 00:54, 10 January 2009 (UTC)

- We might have actually solved this dilemma, through the use of subpages. The small links at the top of (for instance) the ang:Sciþþisc īsmæȝden page allow the user to make use of orthographic preference. The first page makes use of ȝ and ƿ where necessary, 2nd uses g and w in all instances, 3rd uses Runic script. Imma give it some time and see how well the idea catches on. So far I've gotten positive feedback about the idea. —Wōdenhelm 16:47, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

Help for az-wiki
[edit]Statpages of users from azwiki dont change more than one month. For example [6], who can help us with this problem? --Irada 18:08, 4 February 2009 (UTC)
- The toolserver usually replicates this data from the Foundation servers, but this replication is now halted for most projects, including azwiki. There were some issues because of which the entire database had to be re-imported. They also ordered new hardware for which they are now waiting to arrive before importing the database. --Erwin(85) 18:59, 4 February 2009 (UTC)

Wanting to launch a new inter-wiki project
[edit]Sorry, I'm a complete newbie to the concept of meta. It's hard to see whether a project under preparation at en.WP that is essentially inter-wiki in its goals and processes should be located at meta (rather than just a page in project space on the en.WP, as we had planned). John Vandenberg, from the en.ArbCom suggested meta, but it's unclear whether such a project might be located at en.WP and just listed here, or should properly be located here. Do we have that choice? How do people go about letting the right users in other WPs know about an inter-wiki project (whether located at en.WP or here)?
The draft of the page (still work in progress) is here. We'd be most grateful for the advice of meta experts. Tony1 10:31, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
- Meta is the proper place to do this kind of international things, yes. Just go ahead and create your page, e.g. at International Wikipedia survey of overlinking (note that "Wikipedia" should be included, as this seems to be aimed towards Wikipedias only). To make the whole thing public, add a note to Template:Information thread once it's ready. --- Best regards, Melancholie 13:05, 14 May 2009 (UTC)

Hello, I'm an administrator of the Spanish Wikibooks project. We are currently working reorganizating the project, creating new policies, etc... Since we approved our image policy; local file upload has been dissabled and we need to examinate about ~2000 images to move the correct ones to commons and delete them locally & delete the unfree/unsourced/unlicenced ones.
We are requesting the kind help of someone who can run a copy of the commons-delinker (locally) to do this process easier. I have tried to run this script on my own and I was not able to do that. It would be great if the bot could run 24/24. It is important to us to finish this task sooner than later but not having this bot is causing the process to be long and difficult. Sincerelly, —Dferg (talk) 18:53, 19 July 2009 (UTC)
Namespace and categories
[edit]I wonder if it is possible to remove the namespace of an article in a category. If I have a namespace "group" and I have 3 differents articles, they are all listed under the letter G, is it possible ? --76.68.153.139 19:29, 6 August 2009 (UTC)
- In the article(s), use the following syntax:

Helpers
[edit]I need as many and as much help as the community is willing to give. This, like Wikipedia itself, is a communal project.
Qualification of helpers
[edit]Anyone familiar with wikipedia, information architecture, templates, mediawiki, and/or web design is truly helpful!
Date of request and durability of need
[edit]January 18, 2010.
The most immediate need is with a skin design for both sites. The next few things that I need help with are cleaning up the templates and articles themselves, adding media (photos/videos), and ultimately add semantic-mediawiki extension capability. From there we work on promotion, growth, expansion, and self sustaining revenue generation.
At the Projects full maturity I would like to position it as a distribution or even a publication system for works of academia (research and other publications). I feel the time for a copyleft movement is now, and creating an element of transparency into academia would be incredibly beneficial to society itself. So all in all the project is really two pronged.
Additional remarks
[edit]I have done a lot of self learning on my own, however this project has reached the limits of my expertise in size, scope, and technicality. It has simply outgrown what my sole individual efforts are capable of keeping up with. I don't have much money at the moment, in fact Ive been working on this initiative for almost half a year and I wont be able to file for incorporation until next month.
I am certainly willing to work out a partnership with an established, reputable, and trustworthy non-profit entity such as the Wikimedia Foundation. I am also prepared to sign over ownership of the Project in exchange for the help, growth, and professional development of this initiative. More details of that nature can be discussed privately if you would like to contact me.
I can only imagine what Jimmy Wales was going through with Wikipedia, but believe me I can now certainly identify with the struggles presented in "The Wikipedia Revolution".
Thanks in advance to all whom are able to contribute to what I believe is a noble cause.

Wikipedia Recent changes
[edit]I'm currently trying to tabulate a list of the new pages created on mt.wp. Is there a way to see edits done from a particular month until now on the Recent changes? I have tried to alter the &from=

How can we get rid of the new surface at Swahili wikipedia?
[edit]Hi I am one of the bureaucrats at sw:wikipedia. One of these days a new surface appeared and I guess that comes from wikimedia. I am personnally not too fond of it but found out that I can choose a surface similar to the old one (although not the same!).
Now I discover a problem that the tutorials we have all refer to the "old buttons". But new users start automatically in the changed surface. I do not think it was ok to push these changes on everybody and also on us without consultation. For us it means that we have to rework all tutorials and check where we have to make changes in explanations. As many of our Swahili users are not too computer savy it is a problem when tutorial says "search window on the left" and now it is different. ETc.
We have too few active people and too much work to start unnecessary jobs because of well meant but for our situation not thought-through actions which are being forced on us. So who is the one who switch that feature off for our wikipedia? Kindly react to my talk page at sw-wikipedia User:Kipala on Kiswahili-wikipedia
- The default skin change is due to changes by the usability project, not actions of stewards or others at Meta. If you have local consensus to select a different default skin, please file a bug report on bugzilla: and make sure to link to your local vote regarding the issue. Sorry we can't do more! I need YOUR help!
[edit][cricobr] I have been a registered Wikipedia editor for a couple of years now, and am a regular (sometimes almost daily!) editor.
Today I noticed that my user and talk page links were red. I visited them, and to my consternation found that the pages really did not exist. The content of both pages had simply vanished!
Now, to make matters worse, I have discovered that my watchlist and contributions pages have simply been truncated. My whole editing history before today has been obliterated!!!
Can anyone explain what has happened, why this has happened, where I should take this matter to, and, most importantly, how I can get my contents and history back?
Furthermore, it seems that an article I created a few months back has also evaporated: T. F. O. Rippingham.
What is going on? What was my crime? Cricobr 16:37, 8 June 2011 (UTC)
- If I understand what is happening, you are probably just on the wrong wiki project : please go to this page. Cordially, -- Quentinv57 (talk) 16:55, 8 June 2011 (UTC)
- And there is the article you created : T. F. O. Rippingham -- Quentinv57 (talk) 16:56, 8 June 2011 (UTC)
[cricobr] You are right of course. But it was so easy to switch worlds, and the whole environment seemed the same. I had no idea that I had gone from one world to the other, nor that links such as my user, talk, watchlist and contributions were suddenly pointing somewhere different. Perhaps this should be thought about. Perhaps something could be done to make it more obvious that people are changing worlds, and that familiar links no longer go where they normally do. Use colour perhaps. At least the user links at the top of the page should be made markedly different from one world to the other. After all they really are no longer the same links. They just look the same. Sorry for the confusion. Cricobr 17:15, 8 June 2011 (UTC)
- The logo and favicon change when you cross wikis. Isn't that obvious enough? --NYKevin (talk) 01:36, 18 March 2012 (UTC)

warwp
[edit]We at the Waray-Waray Wikipedia are still using the english term for "Category" in our edits. I wish to be able to use the waray-waray word "Kaarangay" as an alternative to "Category", such that when we are putting categories in our edits (i.e., ), the waray-waray alternative Kaarangay:XYZ will be accepted. We are also using the english term for User:XYZ and Template:XYZ and . Could somebody help us on how to make adjustments so that the waray-waray alternatives will also be accepted. Thanks. --JinJian 04:57, 4 September 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, of course. You just need to go on http://bugzilla.wikimedia.org. Once there, open a new bug, and request the creation of a namespace alias on warwiki. Please say you want to create a new alias named Kaarangay for categories (namespace 14). For example, template:rel-top3 (th) : This 'show/hide' feature doesn't work as in the same template in en.wiktionary (template:rel-top3 (en)). Template bug?
[edit]I'm working a number of Honor societies' WP pages on the English Language Wikipedia, many of which are stubs or have missing information. In the infobox Fraternity template, one of the allowed parameters is to add "colors", chosen by most of these organizations for the tassels and cords awarded when members graduate. I've often used color swatches for this parameter, like this:
Yet in the case of the en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sigma Xi article, this usage isn't working. I haven't been able to determine why, as the template and usage mirror many other instances where I've used the same code. For example, on the Phi Beta Kappa Society article, this code works fine:
(neither are showing properly here now, because the parms are shown outside of the Infobox Fraternity template.)
It's probably a dumb error on my part, but I am asking for help of anyone more experienced in this situation. Ideas? Jax MN (talk) 16:24, 15 June 2014 (UTC)
