Americans With Disability Act (ADA)
The Maryland General Assembly (MGA) does not discriminate on the basis of age,
ancestry, color, creed, marital status, national origin, race, religion, gender, sexual
orientation, or disability in the admission or access to its programs, services, or activities.
It is the policy of the MGA to ensure program accessibility and communication for
individuals with disabilities in a manner equal in effectiveness to that provided to
individuals without disabilities. To further this policy, the MGA will give primary
consideration to the requests of each individual with a disability in determining what type
of assistive aid, service, or accommodation to provide.
Buildings and public spaces in the capitol complex, including the lobbies, public
meeting rooms, restrooms, and galleries, are accessible to everyone. In addition to
providing space in the galleries of the Senate and House of Delegates chambers for
wheelchair users, the legislature also offers assistive listening devices for the hearing
impaired in its galleries, as well as in other public meeting spaces such as committee
hearing rooms.
Virtual committee meetings require witnesses to establish a MyMGA account in order to testify.
Individuals with disabilities or their assistant can create this account as long as the individual has an email address.
Once established, they will be able to sign up for oral and/or written testimony.
Qualified interpreters and other services for individuals who are deaf or hearing
impaired are available. Requests for interpreters should be made as far in advance as
possible. Services for individuals who are blind or visually impaired are also available on
request. To request Sign Language Interpretation for a specific meeting, please click

Individuals seeking general information about the legislature's compliance with the
ADA or requesting an assistive aid, service, or accommodation should contact the ADA Coordinator at 410-946-5400, 301-970-5400, or 1-800-492-7122 (Toll Free) or send an email to libr@mlis.state.md.us.
