Athletic Scholarships

McMaster's Department of Athletics & Recreation supports merit-based athletic financial awards (scholarships). With the assistance of Student Financial Aid & Scholarship, a process has been developed that allows consultation from coaches in designated sports to recommend identified individuals for financial support. It is a goal of McMaster University to assist in lessening the financial burden of our leading student-athletes within the policies laid out by the U SPORTS and OUA.

In addition, future opportunities will be made available to all student-athletes of McMaster University to potentially receive an athletic financial award based on academic and athletic performance.

The following OUA & U SPORTS policies are required for recipients:

  • Entering students must be admitted to McMaster to be eligible.
  • Returning students (including transfers) require a minimum 6.5 GPA on all registered courses within the last academic year (September - August)
  • Student-athletes must be listed on the eligibility certificate.
  • A student-athlete can receive a maximum amount of their tuition and fees up to $4,500 for ALL financial awards that contain an athletic component (this includes any bursaries or other athletic awards - i.e. Ron Joyce Award of Athletes - distributed by Student Financial Aid & Scholarship)
