Do we need a dedicated property?
editThis property links subjects to obituaries in one of two journals (Biographical Memoirs since 1955, Obituary Notices 1932-54), using the standard DOI for items in those journals (they both use 10.1098/rsbm...) . However, since those are scholarly journal articles, we generally have items on the obituaries anyway - I think we have imported all papers up to 2017 plus a handful since then.
Those papers are then indexed with main subject (P921) to link to the person - this report lists ~1900 papers linked to their subjects, so for example Albert Abraham Michelson. 1852-1931 (Q47475095) links to Albert A. Michelson (Q127234). In principle if we want a link from the subject item we could also add a reciprocal with described by source (P1343), but either way having a dedicated identifier property seems quite unnecessary?

- Update: have imported all of the 2019-20 obituaries and matched to their subjects, plus all published biographies for 2021-22 (will get the main subjects for those set in the next few days), so I think we are now fully up to date with these. Andrew Gray (talk) 22:26, 16 December 2022 (UTC)
- I've just checked all items currently using this property (69x) - all also have a main-subject link from the relevant article except Robert Murphy (Q18734466) & Woronzow Greig (Q21166890) who seem to have been errors (one link did not resolve, one was for another person).
