Hi! I'm Lereman. It's a pleasure to meet you.

I speak no Lithuanian whatsoever, despite my great grandmother's having been born in Kaunas. She was German — I do speak (bad) German.

But I got a message inviting me to participate in the Lithuanian Wikipedia, "irrespective of my language skills." My first thought, of course, was, "How could I possibly be of any use to the Wikipedia community of a language I don't speak? Surely I would do more harm than good."

But as I read on in the Welcome message, I started to grasp the possibilities. There's a lot of work to do in any Wikipedia that doesn't take a lot of language skill, and I can jump in there. And in the process, I might be lucky enough to start to learn a little Lithuanian.

So starting today, I hope to make one improvement to the Lithuanian Wikipedia daily. Don't expect much! But with luck I'll find a link that can be added somewhere or some picture to be included or maybe some datum to be corrected. And hopefully in the process, the Wikipedia that should be serving the people of my great grandmother's hometown as well as English Wikipedia serves me will become a tiny bit better.
