Abstract
Ag films were deposited on polyester fabrics by roll to roll magnetron sputtering system and systematically investigated by Scanning Electron Microscopy, X-ray Diffraction, and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy. Physical properties of the coated fabrics were evaluated by air permeability, ultraviolet protection factor, water repellency, durability and total hand value. Ag coated polyester fabrics presented the highest infrared reflection rate of 32 %, the highest contact angel of 107° and the highest UPF value of 90.1. The Ag coated polyester fabrics also showed effective durability and good handfeel although the highest reduction rate of air permeability of the coated fabrics was about 11.6 %. This study demonstrates that surface treatment through the roll to roll magnetron sputtering system is a promising method for achieving multifunctional textiles.
