Pro Yakyu Databases

Open databases for research into baseball in Asia
Pro Yakyu Databases

Here you will find CSV files to the only open Pro Yakyu (Japanese professional baseball) databases that I'm aware of.

The first data set is what I've been working on since 1995 in an effort to learn how to use relational databases. It shows a bit of a beginner's work in some places, but is still quite usable.

The second data set was put together by Michael Eng in more of a Lahman DB (a popular database for MLB) format. It also covers many more historical players.

It is both of our hopes that by making these data sets freely available that they may be useful found useful to others. All I ask is that you be sure to credit where the data was gotten from and provide a link to this page in your credits/documentation. Michael Eng further lists credits for his data set here [RTF file].

Korean Baseball Databases

User Beemer has graciously donated his KBO (Korean Baseball Organization) database for use by all in hopes that it will be useful. The three downloads below hold the same information, but are split into three formats:

The tables in each include:

  • master - Main list of players along with profile and player IDs to other data sets
  • teamsFranchise - Key to handling team evolution in KBO
  • teams - List of teams, their locations, and yearly standings
  • pitching - Player historical pitching stats
  • batting - Player historical batting stats
  • fielding - Player historical fielding stats

The original post explaining the origins of this data can be found here, which would also be the preferred place to follow up on this data set (for reporting problems, etc.).

Update by Walko-san for 2009 is here.

Concurrent In-Season Data

For information on concurrent (in-season) data, please read the FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions).

Disclaimer

All data is provided AS IS. There are errors in this data, but it is being provided in the hope that it can be found useful to someone and so that more people may verify the data. If you find any errors or have any other additions, comments, or suggestions, please post them to this thread.

Eng-san and I both hope that you get as much out of these data sets as has been put into them.
