This is the third public draft of the Web Sustainability Guidelines (WSG's) 1.0 and its accompanying documents.

The following changes have been made since v1.0-D2:

  • 20 missing abbreviations have been included within the specification dictionary. (@AlexDawsonUK)
  • Provided additional website resources which relate to digital resilience. (@fullo)
  • [#12] A list of getting started highlights has been added to the at-a-glance document. (@andy-blum & @cwilso)
  • [#19] Wiki Resource links have been fully merged into the WSG and it's supplements. (@mgifford)
  • [#27] Clarification has been provided on several Guidelines regarding data transfer and energy. (@dom-robinson, @i-a-i-n & @Internetthought)
  • [#35] All examples using Apache now include links for NGINX boilerplates for balance. (@JulienWilhelm)
  • [#36] Success Criteria for 4.10 has been re-written to include clarification on dynamic code. (@grugnog)
  • [#44] The Success Criteria of 5.22 has been refreshed regarding emerging technologies (like AI). (@AlexDawsonUK)
  • [#50] HTTP Header response codes and a HTML Dialog API example have been added to various guidelines. (@thibaudcolas)
  • [#51] Benefits for 2.12 & 2.13 re-written to be more explicitly linked to Successs Criteria. (@chrisn)
  • [#56] Example for 2.7 has been provided with added context to relate it better to it's guideline. (@ldevernay)
  • [#59] Additional URL Resource on Islands architecture has been added to Guideline 3.9. (@ldevernay)
  • [#61] Section 3.7 has clarification and references added for advertising pixels and tags. (@www-diogo-in)

Fixes:

  • Broken links and redirects have been resolved or removed. (@AlexDawsonUK)
  • Resolved duplicate references to key academic sources in the specification. (@AlexDawsonUK)
  • Resolved a missing PDF identifier alongside the print-friendly checklist. (@AlexDawsonUK)
  • [#49] Multiple abbreviations which have incorrect pluralization have been resolved. (@YummyBacon5)
  • [#53] Changed "Web Workers" references to avoid potential API name confusion. (@chrisn & @ianbjacobs)
  • [#55] Example image for 2.4 was too resource intensive and has been replaced with a better solution. (@ldevernay)
  • [#57] Syntax issues in the source code which affected list rendering have been fixed. (@AlexDawsonUK & @ldevernay)
  • [#58] Success Criteria for 3.5 has been moved to 3.14 in order to have better relevancy. (@ldevernay)
  • [#60] Missing reference to the WSG checklist has been added to the specification. (@www-diogo-in)

  • Unresolved issues haven't been forgotten! They will be progressed in a future draft.
