Preliminary checks

Describe the problem requiring a solution

Every time a user loads the game he has to choose the type of the game.

Image

Describe the possible solution

When the user loads the game we can guess the desirable game type with pretty big probability and show the corresponding list of saves. For instance if the user plays standard game and wants to load a game, it means he most likely wants to load the standard type of the game. And we can show the game type selection dialog only when there are no saves of the current type.

Additional info

I believe the aforementioned solution will save a few clicks and reduce the cognitive load on the user a bit. The player of a strategy game has more interesting things to think of.

From UX perspective, some kind of filters/tabs in savegames list would be better.

But for me (and probably, other players) this little inconvenience is also an important bit of nostalgia...

Yeah. Agree. It'd be even better! The same idea visited my 7A63 head, however I suppose it's a bit more difficult to implement

I would sacrifice nostalgia for better UX :)

Nostalgia is one of the corner stones of the project!

Probably there is a way: implement tabs/filters in the savegame selection window, but preserve current dialog with buttons. Clicking on "Standard Game" button would open savegame selection window on "Standard Game" tab, etc.
