working form a windows laptop, I have the tools here installed on calibre which has worked well for most things so far, newest book wont strip. I downloaded it from an older version of kindle for pc and have tried directly off my 10th gen kindle paperwhite. I have the bug report for kindle from pc

Did you download with Kindle for PC 2.4.0 (70904) aka 2.4.70904 or an older version installed on the same computer and user as calibre? Should work with that or a copy directly from your Paperwhite.

Make sure Kindle for PC hasn't updated. See method 2a here: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=361503

A copy from your Paperwhite should also be good if you have the Paperwhite's serial number entered in DeDRM's customization.

I have made sure my kindles serial number is in the customization, I have tried both ways with the updating plug in and still cant get it to work off my kindle directly but I did get it to work with a different version of kindle for pc. thank you! going to leave this open for a few more days in case this last kindle book im getting wont go

If it is a book published after Apr 22, you'll need to get the E-ink Kindle method working.

Somehow this kfx file is not in its original folder structure and the KFX Input plugin cannot find all the needed related files. Add from documents\Downloads\Items01 on your Kindle.

theres no selectable file when I do that I go to items then the book and its just opens empty files, and it won't let me select the whole folder

You select the kfx file in the Items01 folder, not a folder or something inside one of those subfolders.

i scrolled down and found it but it doesn't show up when i do it through calibre

i redownloaded the book to my kindle and it worked
