Network TCP Packet Sniffer

Justniffer is a network TCP packet sniffer and logging tool. It captures network traffic, with a particular strength in analyzing and tracing HTTP communications. However, its flexible logging capabilities allow it to be adapted for various TCP-based protocols. Justniffer can decode HTTP data, providing detailed information about requests and responses, including client/server IP addresses, requested URLs, header fields, and message content. For other TCP traffic, it allows custom log formats to extract relevant information from the data stream.

Justniffer uses the libpcap network packet analysis library to capture network packets. It processes these packets to present data in a clear, readable format, enabling efficient traffic analysis and custom logging.

Justniffer can be used for:

  • Verifying the correct functioning of applications by analyzing HTTP traffic.
  • Debugging security issues related to network traffic.
  • Analyzing performances and connection usage.
  • Custom logging of various TCP-based protocols.

EXAMPLES

Example 1. Retrieving http network traffic in access_log format

$ justniffer -i eth0

output:

For example http response time (see man page for a complete keyword list)

$ justniffer -i eth0 -a " %response.time"
