Chevrolet

This repository serves as a default fallback when a given make does not have its own signalset definitions. It contains generic signal configurations that can be applied to Chevrolet vehicles when model-specific definitions are not available.

About Chevrolet

Chevrolet is an American automobile division of General Motors (GM). Founded in 1911 by Louis Chevrolet and William C. Durant, the brand has grown to become one of the largest and most recognizable automotive manufacturers in the world.

Generations

Early Years (1911-1945)

Chevrolet was established as a competitor to Ford, quickly gaining popularity with models like the Series C Classic Six. In 1917, Chevrolet became part of General Motors. During this period, Chevrolet introduced its now-famous bowtie emblem and established itself as GM's entry-level brand, focusing on affordable vehicles for the mass market. Notable achievements include the introduction of the first Chevrolet V8 engine in 1917 and surviving the Great Depression while maintaining strong sales.

Post-War Expansion (1946-1970)

Following World War II, Chevrolet experienced tremendous growth during America's automotive golden age. The brand introduced iconic models like the Bel Air (1950), Corvette (1953), and Impala (1958). This era saw Chevrolet's expansion into diverse vehicle segments, from economy cars to performance vehicles, solidifying its position as America's most popular automotive brand. The small-block V8 engine, introduced in 1955, would become one of the most influential engines in automotive history.

Adaptation Period (1971-1990)

Facing new challenges from fuel crises, increased foreign competition, and stricter regulations, Chevrolet adapted its lineup. The brand introduced smaller, more fuel-efficient vehicles like the Chevette and Citation while modernizing its existing models. This period also saw the near-death and subsequent revival of the Corvette program, which would later become a technological showcase for the brand. The introduction of computer controls and fuel injection systems marked Chevrolet's transition into modern automotive technology.

Modern Era (1991-Present)

In recent decades, Chevrolet has balanced traditional American automotive values with global market demands. The brand expanded its international presence significantly while introducing new vehicle categories like crossovers and electric vehicles. Notable developments include the Silverado pickup becoming a cornerstone of the lineup, the reintroduction of the Camaro, the launch of the Volt plug-in hybrid, and the Bolt EV. Today, Chevrolet maintains a diverse portfolio ranging from affordable compact cars to high-performance sports cars, trucks, SUVs, and electric vehicles.
