Horse Racing
Live Horse Racing
Arizona is one of just a handful of states in the United States that offers a year-round racing circuit. Turf Paradise, located in Phoenix, Arizona, runs one of the longest race meets in the country -- the meet typically, begins in late October, and continues through the first week of May. Rillito Park Race Track (Tucson, Arizona), southern Arizona’s horse racing venue, runs a boutique meet in February and March with the help of the students from the University of Arizona’s Race Track Industry Program. Rillito Park has been recognized nationally as the birthplace of Quarter Horse racing.
County Fairs
Arizona has two county fairs that currently offer live racing. Santa Cruz County, southwest of Tucson, Arizona, runs a two-day meet on the first weekend of May. Cochise County runs a two-day live racing meet in Douglas, Arizona, a community on the Arizona-Mexico border.
