The first in Ozu's Noriko trilogy, we find ourselves in a post WWII Japan with a widowed father and his unmarried daughter. Societal norms conspire to separate the two even though you could imagine them living full fulfilled lives as is. It's a slow, quiet, yet powerful film. There's a Sadness that's difficult to describe. The final scene will stick with you the rest of your life. 5/5
