hollë
Albanian
editEtymology
editFrom Proto-Albanian *hā̆ul-, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂eu-lo- (“hollow”). Cognate to Ancient Greek αὐλός (aulós, “oblong, hollow”) and Old Norse (huann-)jóli (“hollow stalk, stem”).[1]
According to Orel from Proto-Albanian *skāla (compared to Proto-Indo-European *skel- (“to cut”)). Cognate to Lithuanian skeliù and Lithuanian skélti (“to split, devide”).[2]
