Pronunciation

edit

I'm not a native speaker, so I don't want to add wrong information, but isn't says pronounced /seɪz/ if it's the plural of the noun, as in they've had their says? And if I'm not mistaken, how would we fix this? By making two etymologies (stem + verb ending vs. stem + plural ending) or how?

Your pronunciation is correct. I've edited the page. Thanks!—msh210 (talk) 09:02, 27 January 2014 (UTC)Reply
I don't think the noun has a plural! I would say, "they've had their say". But I have heard some native speakers who pronounce the verb form as /sejz/. Can someone tell us which dialects use this pronunciation? Eric Kvaalen (talk) 08:09, 12 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
You would say. But others might say something else. Google books gives 15 quotations for "had their says" (versus some 300+ for "had their say"). If you think a certain form doesn't exist you should check before you delete. The plural has already been put back on, but the pronunciation /seɪz/ hasn't yet.
