Concerning the second noun definition: is that really the same etymology as of the first? Seems to me as it would be related to the verbs, as in Etymology 2... \Mike 19:35, 22 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Agreed. Meanings (#2 and #3) in wrong etymology, and could use some rewording too (better differentiation could help with the translation, since they may be distinct words in other languages). Putting up an {{rfc}}. ~> SilvioRicardoC 16:31, 28 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Female counts

edit

I restored/left the original wording that says this is a male title. Certainly it traditionally is, but various peerages (esp. the British) now sometimes employ the (presumably better-thought-of) male titles for their female bearers as well. It's very likely that there are now female "counts", although I can't think of one off the top of my head, and the British system prefers "earl" in any case. May need to be changed in the near future. — LlywelynII 21:02, 28 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
