Mass noun?
editIn a culinary sense we refer to chives in the same way as we refer to "pepper" or "salt". If we say "add some finely chopped chives" there is no implication that the chives come from more than one plant, for example. While we might speak of "a chive plant", we would say "I have chives growing in my garden" not "I have a chive in my garden". Rich Farmbrough, 09:23, 1 February 2023 (UTC).
