Pleocyemata

1. A taxonomic suborder within the order Decapoda – decapod crustaceans whose fertilised eggs are incubated by the female, and remain stuck to the pleopods (swimming legs) until they are ready to hatch.

• (suborder): Achelata (called lobsters, but not true lobsters), Anomura (hermit crabs etc.), Astacidea, Axiidea (ghost shrimp, mud shrimp, burrowing shrimp), Brachyura (true crabs), Caridea (true shrimp), Gebiidea (mud lobster, mud shrimp), Glypheidea, Polychelida, Stenopodidea (boxer shrimp) - infraorders
