Formal mediation has been requested

Formal mediation of the dispute relating to Role-playing video game has been requested. As an editor concerned in this dispute, you are invited to participate in the mediation. The process of mediation is voluntary and focuses exclusively on the content issues over which there is disagreement. For an explanation of what formal mediation is, see Wikipedia:Mediation Committee/Policy. Please now review the request page and the guide to formal mediation, and then, in the "party agreement" section, indicate whether you agree to participate. Discussion relating to the mediation request is welcome at the case talk page.

Message delivered by MediationBot (talk) on behalf of the Mediation Committee. 19:43, 11 February 2011 (UTC)

Request for mediation rejected

The request for mediation concerning Role-playing video game, to which you were listed as a party, has been declined. An explanation of why it has not been possible for this dispute to proceed to formal mediation is provided at the mediation request page (which will be deleted by an administrator after a reasonable time). Questions relating to the rejection of this dispute can be directed to the Committee chairperson or e-mailed to the mediation mailing list. For more information on other available steps in the dispute resolution process, see Wikipedia:Dispute resolution.

Colin McRae: Dirt 2

You recently removed the Sountrack section from the article Colin McRae: Dirt 2 with the Edit Summary, "Citation doesn't support existence of Soundtrack CD - Thus soundtrack list not valid under WP:VG guidelines". Please indicate which guideline at WP:VG you believe you are following; I can't see any guidelines there at all. The fact that the audio CD exists is not in doubt; there are a number of possible references for this. I will include one of them when I restore a mention of the audio CD to the article. (I will not put back the actual soundtrack list as I don't believe it is appropriate. It could, however, be appropriate in a sub-article.)

I also tidied up many of your new <ref>s. You might want to check what I have done. (Please respond here.) HairyWombat 17:03, 14 February 2011 (UTC)

SEGA Mega Drive / Genesis: Audio section

Hello there. One of your recent edits removed information from the Mega Drive article. This edit has been reverted. The information in question was provided by an expert on the subject and has been verified on multiple occasions since then. You can verify it yourself if you buy a used model 2 and compare its sound to a model 1 console. Please do not change this section again without further discussion. Thanks. Please, discuss this matter with a little more candor. No one is opposing the addition of such a mention; simply that your addition seemed inflammatory and inappropriate as to where it was being placed. However, we cannot discuss the addition of such content if you act in such a way, and the way you are acting makes it hard to believe that the statement wasn't meant to spark things up. - The New Age Retro Hippie used Ruler! You do know that Vaporware has a negative and insulting connotation? Rather than just be a synonym for "unreleased/never released", it also means products where a deliberate deceit was involved on the part of the developer or publisher, in announcing a product that they knew that they would not, or could not deliver. - X201 (talk) 10:26, 4 April 2011 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of PlayStation Network outage/Timeline

A tag has been placed on PlayStation Network outage/Timeline, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:

there is no need for a seperate template which will contain content for one article only. Tried to create a subpage but forgot that can't be done in article namespace.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion," which appears inside of the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate). Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. tblack93 Talk · Contributions 20:23, 1 May 2011 (UTC)

Zenonia 3 categories

Hello, I noticed that you changed date categories for the [[Zenonia 3] article so that the game is now classified as an "upcoming game for 2011". Zenonia 3 was released worldwide on the iOS platform in April, so I do not understand the reason for the category change. LovesMacs (talk) 13:39, 7 May 2011 (UTC)

My mistake. I missed the April date and saw the "plans to release the game on the Android Market by June 2011" and jumped to the wrong conclusion. - X201 (talk) 10:50, 8 May 2011 (UTC)
No harm done, that's an easy mistake to make. Thanks for fixing the categories. LovesMacs (talk) 20:21, 9 May 2011 (UTC)

Re: Status field

*Facepalm* I can't remember why I did that, but since it was me I can only assume it was for things like "defunct". Guess I should probably update the thread to reflect this huh? Still, since it seems to be being used for online status there's probably still room for a discussion on that side of things. Alphathon /'æl.f'æ.θɒn/ (talk) 12:48, 11 May 2011 (UTC)

Online Game Release Dates

You reverted an edit I did, with the justification that I was using the "Incorrect use of INT - INT has a special meaning in video games - Is not a synonym for Worldwide." As you seem to be more knowledgeable about this than I am, what would you suggest I use instead? I need something to differentiate an online release date and a retail (boxed) release date in an article. Comrade Hamish Wilson (talk) 00:00, 19 May 2011 (UTC)

Eden Eternal

Why did you remove the 2011 video games category from Eden Eternal? Is it because the public release date has not been announced for 2011? Kevinmontalktrib 00:53, 26 May 2011 (UTC)

Could you take a look at this Perpetuum article and see it's published?

I think this guy did a decent job on the article. I'm not sure why the page was deleted, even after reading the "editors" comments. [Perpetuum] - this link is to his user page here where he built the article - based upon the EVE online page which is published here.

The game is out of Hungary - in multiple languages. it has write-ups in massively, mmorpg.com has a forum for it and articles on it, tentonhammer has articles and write-ups on it... There's even a stub on the game in fr.wikipdia. Checking across languages, I found dozens of hits and just in English plenty of press that should justify an article's creation. The foundation document is done.

Net effect: Little more than a brief format/content review and the article should be good to go.

Thanks,

File source problem with File:Flower.png

Thank you for uploading File:Flower.png. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Shizhao (talk) 00:43, 22 August 2011 (UTC)

Just in case you didn't release, "Video game cover fur" is a redirect to "Non-free use rationale video game cover", so that probably should be what "Vgboxart fur" is being changed to instead if your looking to avoid the redirect. Salavat (talk) 12:55, 22 August 2011 (UTC)

Notability

Thanks for your edits on the Honor in Vengeance II article, I've read over the notability guidelines before writing the article and felt the game had enough sources to be proven. The game is on the Xbox Live Marketplace, which accounts for a lot, and was reviewed by Dealspwn which is a well known community in the UK gaming scene. I agree that the blog review and other site's reputation isn't as big, but both sites are well established in the indie community. I've seen a large number of other indie games with sometimes literally nothing cited survive for years, so I felt like I did a pretty good job with this article. Let me know! Cheers. --XBLIGfan (talk) 12:25, 23 August 2011 (UTC)

Hiya! Firstly, thanks for your help with this article, keeping me right. I just wanted to say that the image you uploaded should probably go in an article for The Movie as opposed to this one, since it's not actually related to the game too much. Notification

Just letting you know that the anon IP user seems to be falsely accusing me on behalf of my recent edits from MotorStorm (series). On top of that, he also badmouthed me on saying that I'm not supposed to include spoilers, even though I only added a few important things (though I have never done adding a plot to the main article MotorStorm: Apocalypse before). So, I am not sure if you are an administrator, but if you are, I kindly ask you to take care of this user from falsely accusing me, even badmouthing me. JMBZ-12 (talk) 21:05, 17 October 2011 (UTC)

Interview

Hi, I am a Wikipedian and researcher from Carnegie Mellon University, working with Professors Robert E. Kraut and Aniket Kittur. We’ve published many scholarly papers on Wikipedia and are partnering with the Wikimedia Foundation on several new projects.

I have been analyzing collaboration in Wikipedia, especially Collaborations of the Week/Month. My analysis of seven years of archival Wikipedia data shows that Collaborations of the Week/Month substantially increase the amount and nature of project members’ contributions, with long lasting effects. We would like to talk to Wikipedians to better understand the processes that that produce this behavior change.

We’ve identified you as a particularly good candidate to speak with because of your involvement with the WikiProject Video games' Collaborations, which is one of those we’ve been investigating. It would really help us if you would be willing to have a short talk with us, less than 30 minutes of your time. We can talk via skype or instant messenger or other means if you’d prefer. Do you have time at any point during this week to chat? If so, please leave a message on my talk page.

Thanks! (This my personal website)Haiyizhu (talk) 04:43, 8 November 2011 (UTC)

Requesting your assistance

I am having a serious content dispute with an IP on the Grand Theft Auto V article. You seem much more knowledgeable about WP:VG rules and prior consensuses than I. This is NOT about whether or not the developer should be listed as British or Scottish. It is about whether or not a developer nationality should be mentioned at all. Please see the discussion located here and provide an opinion. I'm sure members of WikiProject Video Games have made a ruling on this topic before. Thank you in advance for any help. Niko Bellic

How is Niko Bellic of GTA IV not Serbian? Firstly, Bellić (with the "ić" pronounced itch) is a known Serbian surname (I can provide proof if need be) Secondly, he is speaking the Serbo-Croatian language. I know an American guy voiced Niko but the way the words were pronounced are the Serbian dialect of that (Serbo-Croatian) language. On top of that any surname with the suffix (ić) is a Serbian name. Original Croat/Bosnian/Slovenian/Macedonian names dont end with that suffix. If a Croat name does end with (ić), that person has Serbian ancestry of some kind (either married into a Serbian family, or their ancestors were Serbs who converted from Serbian Orthodox into another religion. Thirdly, his mothers name is Milica (as seen on the various e-mails she sends Niko throughout the game) which is a Serbian name as well. — Preceding unsigned comment added by MoravaiDrina (talkcontribs) 18:32, 1 February 2012 (UTC)

Therefore those stats didnt belong on the Serbian National Football Team page, I removed the incorrect stat change however now all of the stats are gone even though I didnt erase anything more. You, and the other wiki editors, have been a great help to me since I have signed up with the website. Please help me with this one :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by MoravaiDrina (talkcontribs) 02:36, 13 February 2012 (UTC)

Polygon Man

I am referring to Steven Kent's Ultimate History of Video Games, which was published in 2001. For nearly a decade, this book was pretty much the standard when it came to video game history due to a lack of alternatives, but is unfortunately plagued with errors, so claims made in the prose should only be used very carefully. One strength of the book though is that it includes a good number of quotes from interviews he conducted with quite a few important gaming luminaries. Some of these have to be taken with a grain of salt too (Nolan Bushnell was notorious for distorting the truth in those days, and still engages in it to an extent today, though its not quite as bad). As for PlayStation marketing, there is a little bit of information from Steven Race and Jim Whims, although not a huge amount. The Polygon Man stuff is in an actual interview excerpt, so it should be pretty solid at least. I hope that helps. Indrian (talk) 10:33, 4 May 2012 (UTC)

Video game designer vs developer

Hi! I see you changed a few people's category from developer to designer. I don't know many of them, but, for example, Zachary Barth is a developer, not just a designer. He also programmed, did the graphics, sound, etc. Cheers. —  HELLKNOWZ  ▎TALK 13:36, 4 May 2012 (UTC)

I'm going off the description of the categories. Developer Cat said it was for companies only, Designers Cat said it was for people. I'm working my way through every entry in the developer category. When I get to the end I'm going to start a CFD to get the Game Developer cat changed to game Development Companies (or similar). Because its causing confusion. I'm moving people into the designers cat at the moment so that none get lost come the CFD. I'm partway through the S's so should be ready for the CFD in a week's time. Can you put Barth back into designers in the interim please? - X201 (talk) 14:14, 4 May 2012 (UTC)
I see. The descriptions on the categories are inaccurate in respect to their titles. Developer can be anywhere from a single person to a large business. I don't mind that companies and individuals are split into different categories, but, strictly speaking, there is a difference between a developer and a designer when you talk about a person. This is better explained at video game development#Roles and their articles -- video game developer and game designer, which are based on actual reliable sources. A designer essentially makes the game's rules, while the developer does everything (including design). The terms do get thrown around pretty arbitrarily though, so I suppose I don't mind calling people "designers" as long as it is consistent. (P.S. I'll reply here for easier reading). —  HELLKNOWZ  ▎TALK 14:42, 4 May 2012 (UTC)

User:trevj

I am at my wits end with this guy. He has now tried to created a targeted redirect using a misapplication of WP:TARGET as justification as part of what appears to be yet another effort to deny that Psygnosis is SCE Liverpool under a different name. When I called him on it and reverted, he left a note on my talk page accusing me of trying to assert ownership over the article. I personally consider his continuing attempts at subverting consensus and mangling wikipedia polices to be disruptive behavior, and I wonder if we should consider beginning some kind of administrator action. What do you think? Indrian (talk) 13:55, 14 May 2012 (UTC)

I'm trying to avoid thinking along the same lines myself, which is why I've asked for a third opinion on the edits. I'd like to think that we'll all be able to shake virtual hands and walk away having each learnt something after the previous consensus is confirmed or otherwise. Thanks. -- Trevj (talk) 14:37, 14 May 2012 (UTC)

I've started an RFC to get others involved and hopefully cool the situation down. The robust verbal exchanges over the weekend were at the top end of acceptable. As for the exchanges that have happened today. I think you've both crossed the line and should walk away for 24 hours and cool off. - X201 (talk) 14:46, 14 May 2012 (UTC)

  • Its not the discussion that is the problem -- I don't mind if some hyperbole enters on either side -- its the continual editing of the article by trevj that appears to push positions that have been rejected by the current, though small, consensus. I am happy with both soliciting and waiting for more discussion on the matter, but I feel that trevj's most recent edits (the targeted redirects) should be rolled back and no one should make any changes to the relationship between the Psygnosis and SCE Liverpool articles until the matter is conclusively resolved. That is the behavior I find disruptive, not the discussion itself. Anyway, I originally posted merely because I was curious what your current views on the issue were since you are involved in the discussion, I won't post any further here, as your talk page does not need to be another front in the larger debate. Indrian (talk) 15:05, 14 May 2012 (UTC)

Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C.

I'm quite confused by your revert at Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C.. How is 2013 correct? The league that the club competes in changes in June 2012, not June 2013. Why would it take a year for the relegation to come into effect? Mattythewhite (talk) 14:46, 14 May 2012 (UTC)

The template should only be updated once a year. The template states that the Season, and Position field are for "The last completed season". You have updated them and put the last completed season in there, so they won't need updating until the next completed season, in 2013. I put the note there because people kept changing it at various points in the season thinking it was wrong when it wasn't. - X201 (talk) 14:53, 14 May 2012 (UTC)
But it isn't fully updated until June 2012, when "The Championship" will replace "Premier League". So it's incorrect to say the next update is June 2013 when the June 2012 update hasn't been entirely instituted yet. Mattythewhite (talk) 14:59, 14 May 2012 (UTC)
I was wrong about the "League" part. Missed that it was part of "Position". Sorry for the confusion. - X201 (talk) 15:08, 14 May 2012 (UTC)

Max Payne 3 Cast

I put back the cast in. It DOES belong there. I actually came a few days ago to see who is in the cast. This game is heavy on acting so its relevant to this game. And the cast did a good job so they deserve credit. I was surprised to see the cast was removed when I came again today. Wikipedia said it was removed by you. So I put it back and please don't remove, others might want to also know what the cast is and like me they come to Wikipedia to find out. Don't know why you removed it. Its not copyright because i give credits to the cast. And its not spam because I am not associated with any of the cast or with Rockstar. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Max3cast (talkcontribs) 22:52, 17 May 2012 (UTC)

Re: Tables

Thanks for the explanation, it makes a lot of sense and I completely agree with you. My only though is, instead of leaving the "no" cells blank, do you think it would be appropriate to use an em dash (—) as a placeholder? – Zntrip 15:31, 19 June 2012 (UTC)

Luckily, a template already exists {{}} – Zntrip 09:32, 20 June 2012 (UTC)
Okay, in that case we would need a new template. – Zntrip 18:41, 20 June 2012 (UTC)
Actually, I found a solution: {{No|—}} – Zntrip 09:28, 21 June 2012 (UTC)

Team Bondi

Thank you for your feedback. By our username we hoped to be open and acknowledge any potential conflict of interest. For this reason we were especially careful with our edits - we only want to ensure the page includes the other side of the story.

With regard to your removal of the comment about Brian Robbins and the IGDA, we feel that the IGDA promising to 'investigate the claims' is very strong language given that the IGDA is a membership organisation to which Team Bondi never belonged. We have re-added a revised version of the comment which we hope will provide balance to the Robbins quote. — Preceding unsigned comment added by KMMHR (talkcontribs) 01:19, 25 June 2012 (UTC)

Magazine query

I'm after some magazine scans (or summaries). I didn't see them listed in the library, but the Edge page says you have a full collection? So, if you happen to have them:

  • Cannon Fodder, E5
  • Soviet Strike, E39
  • Nuclear Strike, E51

Any "legacy" type info on Cannon Fodder and any preview/development info on the Strike games you might happen to know about would also be nice. Thanks, bridies (talk) 02:02, 5 August 2012 (UTC)

Much obliged. I since found a number of sources for these but Edge is a cut above, even the early one from '93. Thanks again, bridies (talk) 14:07, 12 August 2012 (UTC)

Joe Danger 2: The Movie

Just out of curiosity, why put PlayStation first? (Not going to change it, don't worry, I'm just intrigued ;) ) — foxj 11:11, 30 September 2012 (UTC)

Rockstar North Origin Problem

Sorry for the inconvenience, I kept on clicking on the wrong talk page hyperlink and nothing would appear (also I made this account). Now to the main point, I have had a Problem with the origin of the Rockstar North Head Quarters, it is clearly in the heart of Scotland, Edinburgh but it states it is on British land which is also true but misleading and not giving enough credit to the country it is located, Scotland. I know this problem has gone on for many years, for example, Andy Murray is a famous Tennis player, he is known as a British Tennis player when he succeeding in his career and he is known as a Scottish Tennis player when he is preceding in his career. With the launch of Rockstar North's new installment to Rockstar Games' "Best-Selling" franchise, Grand Theft Auto V , Grand Theft Auto enthusiasts like myself would like to learn something new from its developers. I know it states it is located in Scotland but I could be more specific since the majority of the world thinks that Scotland is a County in the country Great Britain. I could come to an agreement if we let visitors of the page know that it was located in the Country Scotland and the sovereign state Britain instead of them thinking that Scotland is a County in the Country Britain. - MisterFR3SH 01 (talk) 20:40, 3 December 2012 (UTC)
