Wikipedia 15
editWikipedia is celebrating its 15th birthday on January 15, 2016. I have thought for a while that it would be neat to meet some local wikipedians. According to the wikipedians in Winnipeg or Wikipedians in Manitoba category you are one of us. I am contacting people in this category to say: Let's celebrate this milestone. If you know other wikipedians, please ask them to join in as well.
I am posting this to your talk page as a transclude so that any updates will show up automatically.
Hope to see you there! Tenbergen (talk) 04:46, 22 December 2015 (UTC)
One other Winnipeg Wikipedian showed up, in addition to a number of regular skullspace members. It was nice to actually talk to someone else who has worked with Mediawiki and actually "gets" transclusion. Cake was eaten! Tenbergen (talk) 06:37, 16 January 2016 (UTC)
- Aw, apparently I haven't logged in to Wikipedia in over 6 years and I totally missed this message and the event! I guessed I missed any 20 year celebration, too. Let me know if you end up doing a 25 year one. :) Clayton Rumley (talk) 22:52, 2 March 2023 (UTC)
- Hey Tenbergen! I don't my reply using the

template properly, (I copy-pasted too quickly, so you may not have received the ping), so I thought I'd say hello right on your talk page. Hello! It was nice meeting you at SkullSpace. Thanks for organising it! TTFN. - • Supāsaru 16:15, 17 January 2016 (UTC)
- @Supasaru: That's neat, I did not know about that template. You mentioned that you might be interested in doing some work on extensions for mediawiki. I don't know much about those so far but would be interested to find out more. And, who knows, more skullspacers might be interested in a concrete idea. So, if you have an idea about something specific, let's talk about what we could do with it. It was nice to meet you, hope to see you around! Tenbergen (talk) 01:56, 19 January 2016 (UTC)

editHello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Han Chinese may have broken the syntax by modifying 2 "{}"s. If you have, don't worry: just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

Meeting up with some local Wikipedians is a great idea. Good initiative!
Although I haven't made a contribution to Wikipedia in some time, I consider my inclusion on the Winnipeg page an honor. I just returned to Winnipeg last week - I was living in the USA for the past 4 years. Good timing. - Brendan Boehr Boehrb (talk) 18:22, 22 December 2015 (UTC) |

WikEm intro
editI mentioned an introduction to someone at WikEm.org because I thought there might be some cross-over with your wiki at http://ccmdb.kuality.ca.
Dan Ostermayer is an ER doctor and the Deputy Editor of WikEm. I've had the pleasure of meeting him in Houston several times. He is doing some interesting work with the wiki and their mobile application.
I believe they are sharing the content of their wiki with hospitals and, looking over HealthIQConsulting, there may be some opportunities for working with the WikEm folks. --☠MarkAHershberger☢(talk)☣ 20:44, 5 January 2017 (UTC)
Can you help verify translations of articles from German
editHello Tenbergen,
Would you be able to help evaluate the accuracy of translations of Wikipedia articles from German to English Wikipedia?
This would involve evaluating a translated article on the English Wikipedia by comparing it to the original German article, and marking it "Pass" or "Fail" based on whether the translation faithfully represents the original. Here's the reason for this request:
There are a number of articles on English Wikipedia that were created as machine translations from different languages including German , using the Content Translation tool, sometimes by users with no knowledge of the source language. The config problem that allowed this to happen has since been fixed, but this has left us with a backlog of articles whose accuracy of translation is suspect or unknown, including some articles translated from German. In many cases, other editors have come forward later to copyedit and fix any English grammar or style issues, but that doesn't necessarily mean that the translation is accurate, as factual errors from the original translation may remain. To put it another way: Good English is not the same as good translation.
If you can help out, that would be great. Here's a sample of the articles that need checking:
All you have to do, is compare the English article to the German article, and assess them "Pass" or "Fail" (the {{Pass}} and {{Fail}} templates may be useful here). (Naturally, if you feel like fixing an inaccurate translation and then assessing it, that's even better, but it isn't required.) Also please note that we are assessing accuracy not completeness, so if the English article is much shorter that is okay, as long as whatever has been translated so far is factually accurate.
If you can help, please {{ping}} me here to let me know. You can add your pass/fails above, right next to each link, or you may indicate your results below. Thanks! Mathglot (talk) 07:33, 11 June 2017 (UTC)

ORCID API into Mediawiki
editI just happened across your comment at Andy Mabbet's talkpage. Very interesting work over at wiki.umintmed.ca/.../ORCID_Test. I'd be interested in how you implemented that, since it could be useful for WikiJournal of Medicine (and the other WikiJournals) for auto-populating the userpages of new users who already have an ORCID. T.Shafee(Evo&Evo)talk 23:49, 27 October 2019 (UTC)
- Intersting that you sent that email yesterday. I just today came back to this on our wiki today because it was crashing one of the update scripts. We have pretty much decided for now that there is no will to update and maintain ORCID content. So, there was really no point in troubleshooting it, I have just commented out the content that was breaking stuff for now. Having said that, the code to pull in from ORCID was ugly, but did work. If you take what is in the source of our page (https://wiki.umintmed.ca/index.php?title=Tina_Tenbergen/ORCID_Test&action=edit) and paste it to your own wiki you should be able to enable things one at a time on your wiki and make them work. Let me know if you have specific questions. You will need to set up Extension External Data. Tenbergen (talk) 18:36, 28 October 2019 (UTC)
Global watchlist - Update 3
editUpdates associated with DannyS712's Global watchlist script:
- Survey
- I am investigating adding more context to each entry that is shown (such as the edit summaries, tags, patrol marks, the user who made the edit, etc.). Is there any desire for such additions? If so, what should be added first, and what is a low priority? Please leave feedback on the relevant phabricator task, phab:T238300.
- Recent additions
- Site validation has been overhauled. Rather than hard-coding a list of valid sites, users will be able to watch any site where they have an attached local user account. If a site is rejected as invalid, please ensure that there is indeed a local account attached to your global account.
- Users will now be alerted regarding the results of attempting to update their settings.
- Live updates have been added - when activated, the script will refresh in the background, and then load the new feed, every 7.5 seconds. In the future, this frequency may be configurable.
- OOUI icons have been added to most buttons.
- There is now an option to eliminate the confirmation dialog when marking all sites as seen.
- Announcements
- WARNING: Starting with version 6.1, site aliases currently used when saving settings will be removed, and only sites in the form of `lang.project` will be accepted.
- As noted in the last update, marking a site as seen now uses
entirewatchlist
, which means that any changes to watched pages between when the watchlist was loaded and when the site was "marked as seen" may be ignored.
- Next release
Version 6.0 was just finalized for the development and stable branches of the script.

Global watchlist - Update 4
editUpdates associated with DannyS712's Global watchlist script:
- Recent additions
- A new "fast" mode has been introduced. When used, the watchlist serves as just a list of pages that have been modified, and no longer includes context about the edits themselves.
- More information has been added to entries. When edits are not grouped by page, or when there is only 1 edit to a page, minor and bot flags are shown, as well as the user who made the edit, the summary used, and any tags that were applied. When multiple entries are grouped, bot and minor flags are only shown if all of the grouped edits were made by bots or where marked as minor. If only 1 user edited the page, that user's name is still shown, but no summaries or tags are included.
- All watchlists are now fetched in parallel, rather than in series, greatly reducing load time.
- Technical notes
- Most of the source code is now annotated with jsdoc notes, allowing others to more clearly understand and review the code.
- I will be looking into creating guidelines to let others contribute to the script; see phab:T238298.
- Translations
- There is now proper qqq documentation for translations. Translation takes place at m:User:DannyS712/Global watchlist/Translate, and help is appreciated.
- Newly translated messages are added to the script when I notice them; if you have translated messages that aren't showing up, please let me know at m:User talk:DannyS712.
- Next release
Version 7.0 was just finalized for the development and stable branches of the script.

Global watchlist - Update 5
editUpdates associated with DannyS712's Global watchlist script:
- Future development
- I have requested a grant to fund conversion of this script into an extension, as well as further development. Please see m:Grants:Project/Create a global watchlist extension.
- If anyone is interested in reviewing the code and making suggestions regarding coding style, techniques, or something else, please let me know. See phab:T234507 for more.
- Recent additions
- I have added basic tests for the script, so bugs should be less likely to make their way to the deployed versions of the script (both the unstable development version, and the stable release version).
- If there is an error with the script, the user will be notified and and the console will include a stack trace of the issue.
- Translations
- Many thanks to those that have contributed translations for the script's messages. Translation takes place at m:User:DannyS712/Global watchlist/Translate, and help is appreciated.
- Newly translated messages are added to the script when I notice them; if you have translated messages that aren't showing up, please let me know at m:User talk:DannyS712.
- Next release
- Version 8.0 was just finalized for the development and stable branches of the script.

Desktop improvements prototype
editHello, Tenbergen!
Thanks for taking the time to participate in the user feedback round for our desktop improvements prototype. This feedback is super valuable to us and is currently being used to determine our next steps. We have published a report gathering the main takeaways from the feedback and highlighting the changes we’ll make based on this feedback. Please take a look and give us your thoughts on the talk page of the report. To learn more about the project overall and the other features we’re planning on building in the future, check out the main project page.

- Recent additions
- The results for each site, as well as the list of sites without changes, can be collapsed; the list of sites without changes starts collapsed.
- When the username associated with an edit has been hidden (either via revision deletion or suppression) this is now properly shown in the output, rather than showing "undefined".
- Links to view changes open in new tabs.
- When marking a site (or all sites) as seen, only changes made prior to the watchlist loading will be marked as seen, so that any changes since then are not missed.

Scissor snap hook moved to draftspace
editAn article you recently created, Scissor snap hook, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:
" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please follow the prompts on the Articles for Creation template atop the page. ... discospinster talk 03:20, 22 November 2020 (UTC)

Global watchlist - Update 8
editUpdates associated with DannyS712's Global watchlist script and the Global watchlist extension:
As I noted in the last issue, I received a grant from the WMF to develop the global watchlist script into an extension. That extension has now been deployed on Meta. Visit m:Special:GlobalWatchlistSettings to get started.
I do not plan on any further developments being made to the user script. I have released version 9.1.0 to both the dev and stable versions, which includes a notification about the extension being available when you use the user script. You can dismiss the notification, and the script still works, but it will no longer be maintained.
Those interested in providing feedback for the extension should use the phabricator board, phabricator:tag/mediawiki-extensions-globalwatchlist. Any bug reports about the extension should be filed there.
This will likely be the last update sent to this list.

Global watchlist - Update 9
editUpdates associated with DannyS712's Global watchlist script and the Global watchlist extension:
Hi everyone. As I noted in the last issue, I received a grant last year from the WMF to develop the global watchlist script into an extension. That extension has now been deployed on Meta. Visit m:Special:GlobalWatchlistSettings to get started.
That grant has ended, and I have requested another grant to continue development of the extension, and figured subscribers of the newsletter about the user script might be interested. You can see and comment on the grant request at m:Grants:Project/DannyS712/Continued work on GlobalWatchlist extension - if you support this, I hope you'll consider endorsing the request.
