<G> Do I correctly recall you being part of the stub-sorting project? Need a small assist with this edit where I seem to have two (down the bottom) redlinks sect stubs from my best guesses. If this is outside your normal patrols, just drop me a note and I'll see what I can do to unconfuse myself about your mistaken identity! Thanks either way- Happy spring! // FrankB 18:09, 11 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

re: You must have me confused with someone else. I haven't ever been involved in stub sorting. In fact, whenever I try to classify an untagged stub, someone usually comes along behind me and changes it to a more appropriate stub category. So I'm afraid I can't help you this time. If you ever have any questions about chemistry or country music, let me know.... Well, it was good to hear from you again, anyway. Thanks. --TantalumTelluride 21:35, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
I wasn't sure, thought it was you or Valentinian, but thanks and likewise on the nice to say hi again. How about James Bond? I have a set of the MGM special editions, and am mining all the documentaries for tidbits and history. Wouldn't mind a collaborator! <G> T'care! // FrankB 22:17, 11 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

You warned me that I would be banned from editing, unless I stop adding commercial links via the editing facility of Wikipedia. But I really hadn't done something like adding links to pages. Can you please help me with this problem? It is so important, that I can find out, if my computer got hacked or used by some other people when I am away. Thank you! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 85.101.225.42 (talk) 14:30, 23 April 2007 (UTC).Reply

There is nothing to worry about. Those commercial links were posted fifteen months ago, and your computer is probably not at all related. IP addresses are assigned by internet-service providers, and (depending on your ISP) your IP address might change as frequently as every few minutes or even every time you load a new webpage. Unfortunately, the best way we have of communicating with unregistered users is by identifying them by their IP addresses, so warnings are sometimes received by innocent users. If you would like to be sure to receive any future messages meant for you, you are welcome to register a free account. --TantalumTelluride 21:22, 23 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Complete Hank Williams.jpg)

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Complete Hank Williams.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 18:06, 28 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:James_Gregory_caricature.gif

edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:James_Gregory_caricature.gif. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ShakespeareFan00 11:53, 11 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Type up the rationale, and you can remove the tag (ie prevent the images deletion) :) ShakespeareFan00 16:43, 11 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

If you feel the deletion is appropriate, no further action is necessary. Thanks for your attention. --MZMcBride 00:43, 6 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Non-free use disputed for Image:James_Gregory_caricature.gif

edit
Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:James_Gregory_caricature.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted after seven days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Calliopejen1 22:04, 9 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Replaceable fair use Image:David Frizzell.jpg

edit
Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:David Frizzell.jpg. I noticed the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if not used in an article), per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Ten Pound Hammer(Broken clamshellsOtter chirps) 02:45, 19 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi - I posted the section with the same name on my talk page. Could you take part in discussion ?

User: Shotwell suggested (on my talk page) "I would endorse a WP:EXPERTADVICE page that outlined the wikipedia policies and goals for researchers in a way that enticed them to edit here in an appropriate fashion. Perhaps a well-maintained list of expert editors with institutional affiliation would facilitate this sort of highly informal review process. I don't think anyone would object to a well-maintained list of highly-qualified researchers with institutional affiliation (but then again, everyone seems to object to something)."

We could start with that if you would agree ... - could you help to push his idea through Wikipedia bureaucracy ? Apovolot (talk) 16:28, 1 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

In my view people nominated as "expert reviewers" should be willing not to hide under the veil of anonymity. They should be able to demonstrate some level of the verifiable accomplishment / recognition in the domain of professional science . BTW, I do not see any reason why the anonymity of editors on Wikipedia is considered to be a "good thing". Above is my general opinion, so please don't take my statement personally. There is obviously a choice given for everyone in Wikipedia either to act "in open" or to hide behind meaningless assumed pseudonym and I accept this situation. BTW, I do understand current Wikipedia concept that in order to produce good Wikipedia science article, one does not need to be a professional scientist ... - that is fine with me ... But I propose to have (at least optionally) ability to review/qualify such article by the professional scientist. Cheers, Apovolot (talk) 15:31, 2 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

2019 US Banknote Contest

edit
US Banknote Contest
November-December 2019

There are an estimated 30,000 different varieties of United States banknotes, yet only a fraction of these are represented on Wikimedia Commons in the form of 2D scans. Additionally, Colonial America, the Confederate States, the Republic of Texas, multiple states and territories, communities, and private companies have issued banknotes that are in the public domain today but are absent from Commons.

In the months of November and December, WikiProject Numismatics will be running a cross-wiki upload-a-thon, the 2019 US Banknote Contest. The goal of the contest is to increase the number of US banknote images available to content creators on all Wikimedia projects. Participants will claim points for uploading and importing 2D scans of US banknotes, and at the end of the contest all will receive awards. Whether you want to claim the Gold Wiki or you just want to have fun, all are invited to participate.

If you do not want to receive invitations to future US Banknote Contests, follow the instructions here
