Sandbox

I found your sandbox the other day (I watch a category that looks for missing shields when you use {{Jct}}) and I thought I'd point you to {{KYint}}. It's part of the {{Jctint}} series of templates (look at Jctint for usage tips). Basically, it does everything you're doing in your sandbox but calculates the miles→km conversion automatically. –Fredddie 16:08, 5 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Matthewshill, you'll likely not be pleased about this but I have suppressed a number of edits to your userspace which reveal too much personally identifiable information about yourself. List of television stations in California

edit

Lot of nice work on the state-by-state TV station lists, especially with some of the formatting work on the low-power stations.

Just wanted to drop by with a question, though. Looks like you got part of the way through formatting and updating the California low-power stations. In the process, though, you've removed about 30 of the records, and I'm at a loss to figure out why. Examples would include K18HD-D, KNXT-LP, KRVD-LP, etc. They're all licensed stations, and they're all LPTVs rather than simply being translators. Can you shed some light for me? Thx! Mlaffs (talk) 18:37, 17 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Thanks! I took those removed stations and put them on a word document. I now understand more about LPTV vs Translator. I used to considered translators repeaters of other stations. However, I now know, thanks to your comment, that translator is a class. Thanks for that note, because it's the first time I really paid attention to it. The reason I stopped halfway through is because California has so many LPTV stations. I will add those stations back in soon. I am trying to do it on a state-by-state basis, so it may take a while to get California completed. Once again, thanks! Matthewshill (talk) 21:36, 17 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

No worries - I had done a massive clean-up late last year/early this year (I can't even remember now) on all of the U.S. TV stations by state lists with regard to the class A and low-power stations. They were horribly outdated and incomplete. There's also such a massive amount of inconsistency between the various states. As you've seen, some states have them in a table while others are just bulleted lists. Some states only showed LPTVs while others had a separate section for translators. I decided the simplest thing to do was update what was there within the framework of each state's page, but I knew I'd want to go back at some point to standardize. "Some point" just hadn't arrived yet.
Technically, LPTV and translator are the same class. They both show up as either LD (digital) or TX (analog) in the FCC's records - you actually have to go into each individual license to see which it's an LPTV or a translator. You used to be able to tell from a character in the license number, but that's no longer reliable because of the new filing/numbering system that's been introduced. I believe the distinction was that LPTVs had at least some original programming, whereas translators only repeated another station's programming - again, not sure whether or not that's a true distinction anymore. Bannered routes of U.S. Route 127 in Kentucky

edit

You previously moved a page to Bannered routes of U.S. Route 127 of Kentucky, and then copied and pasted the source to Bannered routes of U.S. Route 127 in Kentucky. You probably had to do so because the redirect at "Bannered routes of U.S. Route 127 in Kentucky" had been edited since creation, meaning you could no longer move an article over the top of the redirect.

For future reference, never copy and paste the contents of an article to a different page title. That is a major no-no with legal implications. I use the word "legal" because in doing so, you separated the history of the article from the text of it. Your single edit to paste in the entire contents of that article made the page history of "Bannered routes of U.S. Route 127 in Kentucky" look as though you wrote all of it yourself, when that is not the case. That action violated the copyrights in the text others contributed, and licensed, for our collective use. I've had "Bannered routes of U.S. Route 127 in Kentucky" deleted and moved the other page to that location.

In the future, if you can't move an article to a desired title, check the history of the page at the desired title. If it's a redirect with additional edits, the redirect will have to be deleted. There is a WP:CSD tag, G6, just for such a non-controversial page move. Tag it, and an admin can help you out. Imzadi 1979  23:21, 23 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

I'm sorry. I didn't mean for it to be that way. I think I got confused with the page names. I don't quite remember how it happened. Thanks for the information. It was all my fault. I should have thought about it a little bit. I just copied the page because I couldn't display it correctly. Again, sorry. Matthewshill (talk) 23:26, 23 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

A few small suggestions with new articles

edit

Hey there, thanks for the enthusiasm in creating some new road articles. I have been making a few small changes to the recent articles you have created, and you should easily enough be able to continue with them on future articles you create. The big ones are using {{-}} (or {{Clear}}) instead of many enters, stubbing the articles using {{Kentucky-road-stub}} based on the assessment guidelines here, and starting the article talk pages with the appropriate wikiproject banners. Let me know if you have any questions. Regards, "Pepper" @ 14:54, 24 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

WikiProject templates

edit

Hey Matthewshill. Thanks for contributing to the encyclopedia. Just a reminder, when you create new articles, try to remember to also create the associated talk page and include the relevant Wikiprojects. These help interested editors find interesting articles and help improve them. It looks like most of your creations are in the same topic area, so this will probably be covered by {{WikiProject United States|KY=yes}} {{WikiProject U.S. Roads |state=KY}}. Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. RonBot (talk) 17:19, 15 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

2018–19 Buffalo Bulls men's basketball team moved to draftspace

edit

An article you recently created, 2018–19 Buffalo Bulls men's basketball team, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. Disputed non-free use rationale for File:KVPT Valley PBS.png

edit

Thank you for uploading File:KVPT Valley PBS.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.

This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 01:00, 4 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

Road junction lists

edit

Hi, I would just like to advise you that, per WP:USRD/STDS, there is a limit of 10 junctions (not including the termini) that may be in the infobox of road articles. Needforspeed888 (talk) 02:03, 23 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Just a request, but it really is lazy and a bit of a disservice to our readers to just dump a row in a junction list table telling them to see another article for a significant section of the subject highway. This is even more so when the direction at the second article runs opposite to the direction of the original, subject highway. Imzadi 1979  00:15, 9 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:WRGT Dayton 2019.png

edit

Thank you for uploading File:WRGT Dayton 2019.png.

Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 10:00, 16 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

(talk page stalker) Please disregard this. I replied to oppose the nomination because it's a discussion related to redirects but nominated full articles. Then I noticed that the IP added this to the July 27 page on August 3. So it was really in the wrong place. Imzadi 1979  00:13, 4 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Note regarding copying content between articles

edit

Information icon  Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from WOVO into WPTQ. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. Please provide attribution for this duplication if it has not already been supplied by another editor, and if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, you should provide attribution for that also. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. — Red-tailed hawk (nest) 20:53, 11 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
