Reporting vandalism
The user was given a final warning on the 23rd, and vandalized again on the 26th (Exact same vandalization as in the past as well). This seems to fall within the guidelines as you posted. Is that not recent enough? Dubkiller 02:23, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
- They only have one edit in the past few days... I dunno. I just am a bit iffy on blocking for that. Jmlk17 02:24, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
- Okay. It just seems a little discouraging when a "last" warning is given only to be followed up with another "last" warning to a user who's performed 15 vandal edits in the space of 5 days. Dubkiller 02:33, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
- COMPLETELY understandable. I also apologize if I came off a bite bite-y as well. Jmlk17 02:36, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

Alright, this is obviously a school IP range:
- 142.26.156.203 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log)
- 142.26.156.202 (talk · contribs)

- 142.26.156.170 (talk · contribs)
- 142.26.156.154 (talk · contribs)
From the contribs, I'd guess their school is doing a project of some kind on Louis-Joseph Papineau, (history), William Lyon Mackenzie, (history), and Thomas Talbot (Upper Canada), (history) (among others). The reason I think this is all the same school, is from these edits: [1] [2] [3] [4] Also, the edits stopped in mid-afternoon (school got out?)
So, my question is, how do you deal with something like this, it seems to me, going on assumption, that this is either a classroom with multiple computers connected to the internet at the same time, thus, the extremely similar IPs, but the same range, or at the least, a couple computers with dynamic IPs, but also obviously shared. So, oh wise one... what is done with things like this? Ariel♥Gold 22:06, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
- Damn, I hate those! :). Anywho, I agree: it seems to be a school project or something of that sort. We can block the IPs and their entire range, especially seeing as how you don't need to edit the pages in order to do research. Plus, their vandalism really is pretty damn annoying in my honest opinion. I know there is a way to do that all with one fell swoop, but I am not sure exactly how to do it myself :(. As for the "wise one"...naw lol. Let me see what I can do in the meantime. Jmlk17 22:15, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
- Okay, I re-orded the list in order, and to avoid like, blocking a whole nation or something, lol. Perhaps a range block from 142.26.156.140 - 142.26.156.210 to start? Or 220? These are all nicely concentrated in the last three digits, which is a good thing. Let me know what the result is, and in the meantime, should I place a school/shared IP header on the pages? Ariel♥Gold 22:17, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
- Sounds good... learning experience for us both! Feel free to add the header if you like :). Jmlk17 22:19, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

Okay, so going from that, I can't really narrow down the school's name, although perhaps you can with your fancy tools. Should I just use the {{SharedIPEDU}}? Ariel♥Gold 22:27, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
- Lol yeah, but guess what? Alison already blocked them for 24 hours about an hour ago...lol. Jmlk17 22:30, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
- The whole range? Huh... I mean, I knew some were blocked, but I figured that was just for the vandalism. Hrmmmm... lol. Well I feel useless I guess, lol. Ariel♥Gold 22:32, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
- Lol! It's all good. She actually blocked them for just 12 hours, but I personally think that is not going to do anything. If it really is a classroom full of kids (like it seems to be), then a longer block would be needed. I jumped it up to a week. But hey, I had to learn how to do a range block lol! Good work as always Ariel :D. Jmlk17 22:35, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
- Well, at least I guess you learned something about range blocks from this, even if it was already taken care of, I just didn't see any block notices on the logs, so I take it range blocks don't show up? How can someone tell if the user is blocked or not, then? (Well, someone non-admin like me, I mean). Ariel♥Gold 22:36, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
- Didn't even show up for me! <Huff> I don't think range blocks show up...or if they do, I have NO clue how to find 'em! :) :) Jmlk17 22:39, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
- LOL well good to know it isn't just me. Interesting though, I mean, I was really close to reporting a few of those IPs, but they had not yet received a full set of warnings, and when it was happening, I was busy just reverting all the many edits, realizing that they were different IPs nearly each time, so I really wasn't sure how to handle it. So, once they stopped, I went back and gathered up all the info, looked through all the diffs, and then started looking for an admin I knew, who wouldn't mind me bugging them. lol. Oh, okay so that brings me to my question: If the blocks don't show up, and I had reported them, how would the admin reviewing AIV know if they were blocked or not? Ariel♥Gold 22:42, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
- Oh, and also, I forgot to tell you, you've got mail, lol Ariel♥Gold 22:45, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

Advertising?
I don't know if this is the place to do this, but my page, L2-Paradise, was deleted due to "blatant advertising". With all due respect, the server I am on is a large community and its history is of some importance to some people. There are other sites on wikipedia that seem to be doing more promoting than my page, like 4chan, especially since I did not post any link to our site or to a vote site to promote us, just historical data. —Preceding unsigned comment added by L2PCloud (talk • contribs) 00:16, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
- My apologies for the confusion. I must have entered the wrong information during the deletion process. I deleted the article for issues of notability. Jmlk17 08:44, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

Bad Art
Thanks for the heads up about the deletion of the "Bad Art" article. I haven't been able to get onto the internet for a while since I bought a computer with Vista pre-installed and found it was incompatible with my broadband service. I'm still working around the problem.
"Bad Art" was a style that used to be written up in art textbooks when I was at art school in the 1990s. One of my tutors on fine art foundation level did a whole presentation on it with slides and references. The usage of the term has dwindled since then and it will probably disappear altogether. Although it is a real topic in art history I agree with the article's deletion. Perhaps a brief mention of "bad art" should be included in a broader article on "Notable dead ends in art history" or some such thing. (-: --wayland 08:17, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
- Lol, I completely understand! Glad to have the background on the whole issue though, thank you! Happy editing! Jmlk17 08:49, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

Changed a block
I changed the block of this user from soft to hard, and used "abusing multiple accounts" as my summary, for that user, judging by their name, was an obvious sock. If you take a look that that user's sockpuppet category, you'll be able to recognize the name pattern. I thought it was best that you know. Acalamari 17:11, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

New hockey season
Hi! I reverted one of your edits to the Joe Sakic article. The WP:HOCKEY guidelines states that statistics may only be updated after the en of the season. I noticed that you added the new season to many other articles and I don't have any time to revert them since the time is 02.13 am where I'm at. Could you please revert them to avoid constant updates during the season? --Krm500 00:14, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
- Sure thing... mind slippage on my part lol! Jmlk17 00:15, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
Okay...
Take a peek at NCCC accomplishments, pretty please? I just spent like 40 minutes cleaning it up somewhat, nearly every line was italicized, and bolded, and there were little to no sections (the TOC was halfway down the page lol). However, this really seems to be just a page with collections of quotes praising the National Civilian Community Corps, and I'm not sure why this article is really needed. There is already an article about it at National Civilian Community Corps, and this article is basically a copy of that one, copied and pasted but then added all these quotes. It seems to me that the accomplishments, if indeed, deserving of their own article, should be listed as what was done, not a collection of quotes that politicians have said about the program. What are your thoughts? Ariel♥Gold 00:24, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, to be honest, I think NCCC accomplishments should be put up for an AfD. It really is just a copy-paste sort of effort from National Civilian Community Corps, plus the quotes. I would aim for the AfD myself personally :). Jmlk17 00:26, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
- Well, that was what I first thought too. I'm not sure why it was split and moved, except perhaps to just remove the ugly formatted / disorganized text from the main article. You wanna AfD it? :D hee hee Ariel♥Gold 00:35, 28 September 2007 (UTC)

- Okay, may have a related issue with User:71.166.147.45, who is the one that added all of that, and continues to add it back way violating 3RR nearly every day since the 22nd. I just reverted their adding it back again to the main article, and left a note, but they have not been notified of this before, so can't really report them for a 3RR. (Even though they are at 7 today alone, and way more yesterday). It seems this information came solely from them, and was never thought to be appropriate, and another editor decided to simply move to the new article rather than get into a revert war. Not a bad idea, but still this editor is adding it back, so ... hmm... This all started, judging by the history, around September 19th. Think it would be worth requesting a 48 hour semi-prot on it? Ariel♥Gold 00:45, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
- Lol, the problems just follow you huh? A semi-protect is probably in order... would you like me to do it without the "paperwork" at rfpp? Jmlk17 00:48, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
- Hey I just ran across it doing RC patrol! Not my fault, lol. I tend to revert issues, and then stay around the article to clean things up or add tags, or sections, etc., so my bad, lol. As for protection, that's completely up to you if you think it is appropriate to drop a very short protection on it, I think that since it is just the one IP, it would not be too hard to start warning the editor about the 3RR policy if you wanted to wait and see, plus I'm not sure they've seen the talk page message about the information being moved to another article yet, so... up to you, dear. I probably would wait a day or so before protecting it, though. (But then I don't matter, lol) Ariel♥Gold 00:51, 28 September 2007 (UTC)

New recognized content By Maxim Especially due to the featured topic drive, there have been many new featured lists promoted concerning NHL awards. Here's the full list of all the 13 FL's promoted since the last newsletter.[1][2]
There have been no new good articles or featured articles. Maurice 'Rocket' Richard Trophy has been given A-Class status due to multiple issues raised at FLC.
Did You Know? By Maxim
Featured Topic Drive By Maxim Started by User:Scorpion0422, the aim of this drive is to make NHL awards a featured topic. A featured topic is basically a set of very high quality articles (good articles and featured articles/lists). In this case, the topic is NHL awards. Many users have helped, including Scorpion0422, Resolute, Serte, Hasek is the best, Maxim, Croat Canuck, Spike Wilbury, FutureNJGov, and T Rex/Dinosaur puppy. The progress has been very good; there are 12 featured lists promoted, and 2 good articles:
Check the project page if you are interested in helping out. Although it's closer to being done than not, there's still work to be done. The next topic that might be tackled is Stanley Cup, but this remains purely speculative and in discussion. |

Hello
Hello - I saw a page I wrote deleted within an hour of its creation. I believe I made the case for its significance and I wonder if you read the justificaiton or just auto delete anyone who wrote a page of bio... . Wiki has bios on hundreds of people who did various things in Internet history - some major, some minor... I created the first e-commerce business and set the stage for a million businesses that followed. I made a case for this pioneeering work... a major item in Internet history... Most of my teachers are in WIki and so are several ancestors. I'd appreciate a dialog over this entry rather than get shuffled into the auto-delete basket. What is your criteria for auto-delete???I'd appreciate some discussion on this and restoration of the page.Alexanderrandall5 04:03, 1 October 2007 (UTC)
- I answer this on this user's page. Certainly, Jmlk17 you should feel free to comment upon something addressed to you, but I think I've offered a workable solution to the issue.[5] KP Botany 04:54, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

FYI
This movie that is supposedly so "important" that it deserves an article, has 0 news coverage: [6]. I'd actually guess that CambridgeBayWeather and WarthogDemon are upholding notability guidelines, and it is making someone who doesn't understand those, upset. Ariel♥Gold 07:46, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

Die4Die talk page
Hi. I would like the link at the bottom of my talk page removed.I do not have the technical skill to do it at this point. I object to there even being a list like that, because any one can complain about any name.I think that the linking of my talk page to that list is an attack. Could you help me rectify this,please?Die4Dixie 10:11, 1 October 2007 (UTC)
- Are you speaking of the category at the bottom? Jmlk17 05:49, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
- Yes. After a much needed sleep, I would like to request that the category on my talk page be removed. I strongly believe that the report was made in bad faith, which was apparent after his suggestions of alternative names. Soon after you posted your request to discuss it, the reporter bandwagoned. The user objected to me changing Sean Hannity's nationality. You can see the discussion there. He then misconstrued my comments, taking them out of context, and said that my discussion on that talk page was racist????? Anyway, I'm concerned that a user can misuse that reporting to try to foster mistrust amongst editors. Regardless of how illogical their argument might be, the continued link there, IMHO, would seem to give some kind of weight to his assertions. I had no problem with you polite and dignified request to talk about my user name, but my perception that the user was merely trying to cause me some wikigrief made me a little short and testy. Thanks for any consideration you might giveDie4Dixie 03:46, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

- Thank you. I guess what I wanted was the semi protected template " users whose usernames users have expressed concern over" or something like that removed from my talk page. Is that possible?Die4Dixie 16:51, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
- It is your talk page, so in the end, you can do with it as you wish, but I would suggest that for the time being, you leave it up. At least until the discussion over your username is done. :) Jmlk17 06:39, 4 October 2007 (UTC)

IP vandal
Hello... this isn't a random issue - there is an ongoing and persistent attempt to delete information from Wikipedia that reveals how magic tricks are done. It almost always involves deleting the methodology, rather than just blanking the article. This has been going on for months. --Ckatzchatspy 08:22, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

PLEASE WATCH YOUR LANGUAGE
Good evening, on one of the current rfa's, you put the phrase "hell yes". Please note that "hell" is a sware word and an inapropriate word to use on an online encyclopedia. You may use that language in other places but please keep your language clean here on Wikipedia. Thanks for you cooperation. --bobsmith319 00:56, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
- I sincerely hope this is considered as a humorous comment/joke, because Wikipedia not censored, so Jmlk is free to use any language he wishes when making comments. Additionally, "hell" is hardly considered "inappropriate language" by most editors, and I doubt anyone reading the RfA would be offended by such a simple word to express the enthusiasm of support. Ariel♥Gold 01:15, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
- Ah, thank ya lol. Jmlk17 05:37, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
True, Wikipedia is not censored, but to prevent future arguements with other users, I would suggest not using such language. I actualy wasn't joking. Eventhough the word is fairly minor, its still considered a sware word and thus probably shouldn't be written on Wikipedia where possible. :) --bobsmith319 00:06, 4 October 2007 (UTC)
I would just like to say that this section really made me laugh, especially "sware words." :D GlassCobra (Review) 01:57, 4 October 2007 (UTC)
- To be fair, it was not used as a swear word, but rather as a point of expression, an emphasis on my approval :). Jmlk17 06:47, 4 October 2007 (UTC)

Not sure if I should bring this to you...
but 24.118.153.134, an IP that you blocked in the past few months has started deleting material, adding poor grammar, and reverting constructive edits. I'm new to this sort of thing, so is there anything that can or should be done about it? Hewinsj 04:47, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
- Reporting here is more than fine, but in the future, you may want to fill out a report at AIV. It's a bulletin board for admins to take a look at reported vandals, and block them accordingly. It can often be a faster response time, as I am offline more often than not, and there is always someone checking AIV. Happy editing! :) Jmlk17 05:42, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

- Umm, excuse me? The user above is an obvious sockpuppet of the banned user Starwars1955. He edits 4 times (to create and blank user and talk pages), then asks for full page protection on Brett Favre, and you give it to him. Then you revert to a previous version at his request. Please unprotect the Brett Favre page. There is no edit dispute going on, there is only one banned user with multiple sockpuppets, finding new avenues to screw with the wikipedia community. If you want more information, ask me on my talk page; otherwise, I will enlist the help of another administrator who knows what the score is with this troll. –King Bee (τ • γ) 11:13, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

- If you can't take the time to figure out the details, then just undo what you did (the page protection). I am not going to send a request to WP:AN/I every goddamned time a new sockpuppet of this jerk shows up and convinces another admin to do what he wants. Anyway, I'll leave you be. - See the thing is, I'm not a checkuser or anything. I'm a regular user with a few extra tools, and I had no inkling of sockpuppetry. Jmlk17 06:37, 4 October 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah, but you didn't even look to see if the claims made by the user were true. He said that I and others were accusing each other of being sockpuppets and constantly reverting our edits; this is just false. All I'm saying is that you should take a few minutes next time to see if the claims made on RFPP are true before protecting a page or satisfying the whims of certain editors. –King Bee (τ • γ) 15:08, 4 October 2007 (UTC)

I noticed you sprotected suicide - any particular reason? The last IP vandalism was 34 hours before the sprotect tag, so that particular one is probably not coming back. The page, by virtue of its content, will always be a magnet for vandals, so unless you're planning to permanently sprotect it, it's probably not worth it in this case. - LOL! Well I just removed the line in my monobook.js and re-added it after Aza fixed it (be sure to ctrl-r to refresh). He added some new items to the notices as well. And here you are! Woo hoo! Check my monobook to see how I have mine set up if you want to just copy the first few lines. But hey I was just looking for someone online! Do you have a minute or two? - Oh, I like the date and time thing that was added. Jmlk17 03:42, 6 October 2007 (UTC)
- Did you get it working? What date/time thing? Oh... you mean you copied mine? Okay that is a purge function. Click on the date/time at the top, and it will purge the cache of the page you're on. So, for the other issue, I personally consider protection a last resort, but frankly, I'm getting tired of reverting unsourced, defamatory, POV opinion/commentary edits to Amy Grant. Please see User:ArielGold/sandbox2 for full details. Would partial protection for a week or two be acceptable in the situation? Yes, it is only one editor, but on a rotating IP, and I'm not sure that a range block can be done because it seems to be a large range covered, and could have collateral damage if a range block was applied. What are your thoughts? Ariel♥Gold 03:46, 6 October 2007 (UTC)
- That's a large range for a range block, so I would avoid that route. Looking over the history of the page, there is definitely enough evidence for a protection, so I tossed on a semi-protect for 10 days. We'll see if that helps out. :) Jmlk17 03:51, 6 October 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah that's why I said I didn't think a range would work. Thanks for the protection, I wasn't really sure if it would be accepted at RFPP, just because it is obviously just one person, and has only been going on for a couple of days, but the disruption was still as if it were multiple editors since the IPs rotate. On the up side, it is not an overly active page, so protecting it isn't really going to stop the page progression, but I wasn't sure if I was right or wrong. Thank you for taking care of that! You rock! (And did you get my monobook stuff, or is there a new time/date thing for Twinkle that I'm not seeing? lol) Ariel♥Gold 03:56, 6 October 2007 (UTC)

The above user has been constantly copying the content at Naruto: Clash of Ninja (series) and creating duplicate articles. In addition, he has uploaded a series of images for these new pages, which would not find use on the original page. Despite constant attempts to open discussion, he has ignored any such entreaties. I've redirected his duplicates, but I can't see most of them ever being a search option. Deletion of the redirects and the images (consensus has decided against using more than one cover image out of fair use issues) would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Re:Brett Favre
Hey I noticed you declined the full-protect. I was wondering what measures could be taken to block this editor and his various sockpuppets (i.e. checkuser, IP block). There are so many sockpuppets that he ages I think this would help for the time being and maybe be able to block his IP address. Thanks for any help. (I will watch your page)
Gonzo fan2007 talk ♦ contribs 05:23, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
- I know... the sockpuppets keep piling up! I declined the full protection mainly because the banned user themself is asking for it. If you check out the log, I actually did fully protect a few days ago, but a different admin changed the protection level soon after. As for enforcing the ban on the user; we're doing the best we can, and are actually keeping up quite well with their efforts, but an IP block isn't working with them. Jmlk17 05:29, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah I saw the protection, I almost cant wait for the season to end and this whole fiasco to be over. Yeah I am actually amazed at how many editors and admins this guy/girl has made angry. There has to be at least 8 or so of us who are watching that page and all the other pages and taggging and reverting and...and...haha its amazing how much one person can disrupt so many people. Thanks for your help though and if you ever need any help or anything, feel free to drop me a line!

Not vandalism
Hi, I am kind of confused, because my intent was the opposite of vandalism, I was trying to make a correction. It says in the article that the first half of season eleven ended on April 18, 2007, and began airing again on October 3, 2007. This is not correct however, because October 3, 2007 marked the START OF THE SECOND HALF OF THE SEASON. Each season is aired in two halfs, the first is aired in the spring, and the second is aired in the fall. So the first half didn't "start again" (which when worded doesn't exactly seem "possible"), the second half merely just started. - 99.237.9.80 02:22, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
- Good point actually... I must have missed that. :) Jmlk17 02:23, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
- Okay, I changed it so it says that the first half started airing (blah, blah, blah, I won't write the whole thing), and resumed airing new episodes on October 3, 2007. This seems "constructive". - 99.237.9.80 02:29, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
