User talk:Casliber/Archive 10
Hi Casliber. You're an experienced Wikipedian and a frequent FAC contributor. Please review my contributions to Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Peterborough. I want to know if you think I'm being too harsh, particularly ref WP:CITE. I recognise that the article writer has a point when he refers me to CITE, but I worry because the sources are inaccessible, it's impossible for a reader to ascertain what material in the paragraph is sourced and what isn't, which becomes even more of a problem as the article endures future edits. Furthermore, surely FA is about the highest possible standards? Give it to me straight. Many thanks. --Dweller 12:49, 24 September 2007 (UTC)
- (Groan)...was just about to go to bed. It'll have to wait about 12 hours (but will try to get there sooner) as I am a bit tied up - gawd - FAC page looks busy. Let me read it myself and see...cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 13:17, 24 September 2007 (UTC)
- OK. Thanks. As you'll discover when you read the page, I'm of the opinion there's no rush, lol! --Dweller 14:16, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

- I'm not too worried about the cites, but the prose definitely needs tweaking as does the comprehensiveness. cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 03:56, 25 September 2007 (UTC)
Thanks. I think the odd prose is because some of the article was in its early days directly lifted from a defunct encyclopedia and some oddities have perpetuated. I'm speculating, but seems a good guess. Thanks for input. --Dweller 08:27, 25 September 2007 (UTC)
Casliber -- happy hero award

Medal
editThanks for the medal! By the way, I just realized I never responded about Romania. I've not been back for several years now. I was involved with an orphanage/English training program while there, and I recall quite keenly what a wreck any sort of documentation was. I can't imagine what it must be like doing genealogy there. I believe some churches kept good records that survived the communists, but never tried researching myself. I knew little Romanian, even at the time, and I have no roots there myself. So sorry that's no help... --JayHenry 00:28, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

Vampire:
editI'm making some headway on Vampire - I get so busy reading all the books I have borrowed on them (They're really interesting!) that I often don't have time to write it all down. A vicious cycle... Okay, now that all your FAs are out of the way, I thought now would be a great time to begin our collaboration. Since you're keen to write Werewolf, how about this... I keep on writing Vampire, you start doing up Werewolf and then when we're done, we work on both together. As you'd said, there's no other article on Wikipedia like Vampire etc, so we're pretty much free to create our own MOS and in regard to the article. Besides, I'm feeling insecure watching you go out making the best FAs I've ever seen whilst I'm still waddling around with Vampire. God Dammit! I'll bring you down to my level if I have to!! ;) Anyway, I'm keen to begin our collab - Also, I'm moving unsourced stuff which I don't have a cite for to the Vampire talk page - After you're done doing stuff on werewolf, you could possibly see if you have anything that covers those texts. Cheers Cas, Spawn Man 05:10, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
- Lol, thanks a bunch for the medal Cas! Gosh, you really are showering me with Barnstars eh? Mind you, you're the only one giving them to me, so I can't complain. ;) Anyway, I'm really tired, I don't know if I'll work on Vampire today - me so lazy! Cheers Cas, Spawn Man 05:01, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
- If you're happy with them? Yeah, they're okay - I guess I'd like to merge some into others and maybe rename a couple, but other than that, they'll stay basically the same. Definitely there should be an Etymology, Description & in pop culture section in Werewolf, but I dunno about the natural propogations segement. If you can find something about that with werewolves, go ahead, but I'm not sure if I want to keep that whole section in Vampire. Some of it's already repeated in the common traits section and I'm not sure natural propogations is the right term here. Maybe if you waited on the whole sections thing, it would be better. At the moment, I'm rewriting two sections; ancient beliefs and common traits. I've got this really great book which covers a lot of stuff. Anyway, as I mentioned, I'm moving some stuff to the talk page, so if you find a citation, put it there and I'll put it in the main article. There's one big uncited part which needs a source in the etymology section to do with the russian naming. That really needs a source. Anyway, I've got a tonne of work to do. Cheers. :) Spawn Man 08:16, 27 September 2007 (UTC) P.S. I was thinking that after this, we could work on Devil. Now there's an article with tonnes of work to be done and tonnes of references to go along with it! What do you think?
- There's more than one devil? And yes, I expect Vampire to get huge by the time I'm done rewriting it. :) So, what did you want to work on then (Did you say you didn't want to work on werewolf...?) Anyway, I'm off for the night... Spawn Man 11:13, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
- Yep, dragons' a good idea - I think I also have griffin or something on my to do list as well... Anyway, I'm really going to bed this time. G'nite & sorry for taking so long on Vampire. It's just so daunting and all this rain over here is depressive.... Cheers, Spawn Man 11:23, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
- Hmmm, I wasn't up to the Indian part of "Ancient beliefs" yet, so you might want to go back over it once I've rewritten that paragraph to make sure the ref still covers everything stated. Spawn Man 06:17, 28 September 2007 (UTC)

hairpin banksia
editI'm probably going to run this one thru FAC some stage soonish (I had intended to work it up and do it at the same time as B ericifolia but didn't 'feel right' at the time. Have left it for a bit and it looks in not bad nic at all really..(obviously not ready quite yet but not hugely far off neither....)....cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 07:05, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
- Righto. I'll try to help out but I'm having trouble keeping up with you these days. ;-) So don't feel you have to hold up on my account.
I'm working on Banksia sessilis at the mo. Hesperian 07:19, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
Grrr, he's just opposed again and he's so vague it's not really giving me any idea on how to bliming start. Do you know what the heck he means by an art critism section? I have no freakin' idea where to start and your help would be greatly appreciated - as it is I'm struggling to get Vampire finished before I have to give the books back (Who knew books could only be granted for 3 weeks at some places!?), so I really can't afford to have this start. Since we're a team, would you be able to give me some hint as to what I'm supposed to do. If you do, I'll be forever in debt - I really can't be bothered making another FAC for Kertesz and frankly, I'll lose interest. Cheers Cas, Spawn Man 07:01, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah, now that he's explained everything to me. I think I've done a good job - Could you check it out for me? I'm a bit worried that most of the stuff is from the New York Times though... Spawn Man 09:27, 28 September 2007 (UTC) P.S. Check out what I've done on Vampire - I'm pretty proud I've turned all the "Description" section from bullet points into prose. So yeah, chuffed... ;)
- So whatdoya think about the Critical evaluation section? Good or bad? Spawn Man 09:53, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
- Great! Hopefully Callio will unoppose now - I'm off to spend time with my fiance. She's so awesome; I love her to bits. :) Anyway, thanks Cas - I was proud how I whipped up a full, cited section in under 1 hour. I'll look at that Peterwhatever FAC tomorrow afternoon as I'm out all day & I'm kinda tired now... Anyway, thanks Cas. :) Spawn Man 09:59, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
- K, I've gone through the vampire article up until the Greek part of the "Ancient beliefs" section - anything you can cite is a bonus up until there; I'll add mine later. I have an inkling though that the article is going to wind up being between 90-100kbs. I'm scared cas, really scared. What monster have we created?! ;) Spawn Man 07:09, 29 September 2007 (UTC)
- So whatdoya think about the Critical evaluation section? Good or bad? Spawn Man 09:53, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
- I have found a solution!!!! See the vampire talk page!!! :D Spawn Man 05:59, 30 September 2007 (UTC)
- Well, I've reached the end of the line with Vampire - it's over to you now Cas. I'll add my refs shortly, but the rest of the writing will be up to you. I'll copyedit etc as you go along; I've done up to the Ancient beliefs section, but haven't completed it fully (Couldn't find info on the indian stuff etc. Let's see what you can add and then we can go through and finish it off. I'll try and find something else to occupy my time. :) Spawn Man 00:58, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

I was going to add Whilst recognising the reconfiguration of the relationship between the city and station is critical, English Heritage found the current plans for Westgate unconvincing and felt more thought should be given to the vitality of the historic core before the second ref. I would have also taken identified investment priorities out at a push. Will you consider a compromise..? Chrisieboy 00:38, 29 September 2007 (UTC)

Article History
editGreetings Casliber, we had previously briefly discussed the issue of searching article history to discover when certain pieces of text were added. You had mentioned your efforts in bringing Lion to FA status.
I have since investigated the feasibility of such a search/analysis tool and developed a crude instrument. Pursuant to which, in regards to Lion, I predict the following:
1. "The male lion is highly distinctive"
Appears approx. 1130 revisions ago. Edited 05Jul07 by Casliber. Article ID is 142757044. Persists in the current revision.
2. "In the wild, lions live for around 10-14 years"
Appears approx. 4477 revisions ago. Edited 27May04 by 165.222.186.195. Article ID is 3806428. Disappears approx. 4454 revisions ago. Last seen or gone in revision 20Aug04 by Stereotek. Article ID 5700798.
3. "Lions live for approximately 10"
Appears approx. 267 revisions ago. Edited 11Sep07 by Casliber. Article ID is 157102622. Persists in the current revision.
You may note from 3. above, the tool has limitations, i.e. I could not find the "10-14 years" portion.
Your comments: - am I close to accurate on these predictions? I haven't checked them.
- is this the sort of useful tool you referred to?
- I have the Lion pages and would invite further queries, also any other challenge queries on different articles. Plain text only for now.
- the tool is wpW5 - wikipedia who-what-when-where-why - it is currently wpW5PxC, PxC being "proof-of-concept" or more realistically "pretty-xxx'in-crude". Your further input is appreciated. Franamax 10:08, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
spinulosa
editWhen you're not busy in real life anymore, I've written articles on all four varieties. I daresay they are entirely satisfactory articles, but other than the taxonomy sections they lack the spark that makes for a good article. I suspect you'll be willing to take them under your wing and give them a bit of love. All in good time of course. Also I started a thread on the species talk page, which you might not have noticed (or you were too busy to address right away). Again, all in good time. I have plenty to go on with. Hesperian 12:53, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
- Just got back from 3 days away - will take a look. cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 12:54, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
- I've been watching it grow. My main work will probably be with the trimming of links in the references (I've already explained why). I personally like the "definition list" format for subspecies (already in use in B. ericifolia and B. integrifolia) more than the list format (both because it accommodates the amount the text better and it shows a different format than the cultivar list). Also, you'll want to seriously review the description section of B. s. var cunninghamiii, which currently calls is var. collina (!), which reminds me, the discussion re: abbreviations had actually come to the conclusion that while the B. s. cunninghamii format was no good, B. s. var. cunninghamii was okay; it's the presence of the division abbreviation that is necessary.
- Oh, yeah, I'll give the full article a good review later today. I never got around to really do the birds, so feel free to poke me about that later.
- Regarding the map, did you consider stripes (though that might be complicated if the three overlap)? Circeus 16:05, 4 October 2007 (UTC)
- That's the thing; there is some overlap between spinulosa and cunninghamii near Sydney and in southern NSW. Incidentally, I'm musing on whether to have the isues in classification above or below the subspecies list. Above I thought but then it jumps straight into discussing varieties not yet introduced.cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 04:45, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
King Vulture Help
editCould you please swing by the recently updated King Vulture page and see if you can put in some information on where the scientific name came from, like you did to California Condor? This info would greatly help out the article and probably will be the trigger for me to nominate it at the good article page. Thanks. (Oh, the names are Sarcoramphus papa and the older Gyparchus papa. Thanks again) Rufous-crowned Sparrow 02:04, 4 October 2007 (UTC)
- GA? Surely there'd be enough to work it up to FA I'd a thunk....cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 02:10, 4 October 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for plugging that info in so quickly. Do you know where the "papa" part comes from? Also, the page is now almost as long or longer than a good number of our bird FAs. Do you think you could give it a read-through before I nominate it at FAC (or mention something else it needs)? Also, do you think that a FAC should wait for a range map? I'm going to leave a note on the guy who made the California Condor's map's page, but I'm not sure how quickly he'll respond. Thanks again.
Oh, and could you by any chance do the same taxonomy info thing on the other New World Vulture pages? Jude and I are going pretty hard at them right now, with him doing Greater Yellow-headed Vulture and Lesser Yellow-headed Vulture and myself King Vulture and going to start on Andean Condor tonight. Thanks. Rufous-crowned Sparrow 23:27, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
- I'll see if I can track down some books- I have a few field guides that should include the king. And quite a few of the references are from old journals downloaded off the internet (Condor, Wilson Bulliton). Also, do you think that the article is over-referenced? And is the article long enough? Thanks for your help. Rufous-crowned Sparrow 23:26, 6 October 2007 (UTC)
revert on "lion"
editDont worry about it. It's only because the article I referenced is "orphaned" that I even bothered adding it to an article that's already so long. I've already taken it upon myself to add it to "Cultural Depictions of Lions," though, as you suggested. Phoenix Flower 03:52, 4 October 2007 (UTC)
If it were the Russosphere, rather than the Anglosphere, we'd all have known about this 50 year anniversary in advance. It took me opening the International Herald Tribune this morning to find out. In an anti-systemic bias effort, I suggest we celebrate every October 4. Marskell 20:54, 4 October 2007 (UTC)
ndashes
editHTML ndashes suck. If you're on a Windows box, you can get a real ndash (i.e. unicode) by holding down the ALT key and typing 0150 on the numeric keypad. Hesperian 11:35, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

last minute tweaks to Banksia spinulosa
editOk, I think I'm just about to roll this one on down to FAC - lemme know if anything needs tweaking. I'm gonna ask Gnangarra for a map - musing on whether just having one colour and leaving subsp distributions for subpages as unlike Superb Fairy-wrens they ^%(#*#@ overlap....All input much appreciated cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 14:56, 4 October 2007 (UTC)

dist map
editI'd go for one which covers the species, then if sub species arts are made over lay that with the sub species. which would be easy to do just change the red of the species to a darker grey and fill the sub species in as red. Gnangarra 01:24, 7 October 2007 (UTC)

Australian FA maintenance
editHi Casliber. Yesterday I uncovered an intant prose-checking tool and I used it to test out the prose size of the Australian FAs and then counted up how many inline cites they had...Then I calculated the ref density (inline cites (including repeated usage) divided by the prose size) to get a quick measure of which Australian FAs needed a ref improve. The full stats are at User:Blnguyen/AusFA. I wonder if you could help with the wildlife stuff? I tried doing a bit on the Green Tree Frog but I don't think I was particularly efficient. I'll just get stuck into the sport ones since I know where to find refs and books for those ones. Regards, Blnguyen (bananabucket) 03:11, 9 October 2007 (UTC)

Vampire
editNew comments for you at Talk:Vampire#Niice! - I'd like to keep up a continual update sorta thing there so we know what each other is doing on the article. I'm enjoying this collaboration Cas; just when I'd run outta steam, you jumped right in and added a whole lot of new stuff for me to copyedit! :) Cheers, Spawn Man 01:13, 10 October 2007 (UTC)
- Ignoring me eh? No mind, but I do have a question: If the guy who's opposed on the Andre Kertesz FAC doesn't respond, do you think you could check out what he's talking about? I'm not quite sure, but it sounds easy to fix - if only I nkew what he was talking about lol. :) Thanks and again, nice edits on vampie. :) Spawn Man 00:59, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the support.
editHello Casliber,
Thank you so much for coming out in support of my RfA; it closed successfully a few hours ago, and I am grateful for your participation in support of my nomination.
Honestly, your comments took me quite by surprise — I was under the impression that nobody would take the time to look back at my old self-nomination. Although I was disappointed by the outcome of the episode, I was encouraged that you took the time to examine the bigger picture.
Now that is all said and done, I just wanted to know that I intend to be of service to the community. As such, if you have any need for administrative assistance, please feel free to contact me; I shall do my best to be of assistance to you. Cheers, --Aarktica 01:31, 10 October 2007 (UTC)

Overzealous image deletion
editFile:Ac.bernardgrenfell.jpg was deleted with the note "copyright not expired." Given that copyright doesn't cover portraits prior to 1921, Grenfell's dates are 1869–1926, and the portrait is of a man not yet middle-aged, I seriously doubt the deletor knew the image to be out of copyright, but simply assumed guilty unless proven innocent.
I didn't upload this file, but did include it in a template that now has a yucky gap in it. How do we get such deletions reviewed? (Is there any accountability for such deletions?) Alastair Haines 15:48, 11 October 2007 (UTC)
- Good point about publication date, I'll check the other image for similar info. I'm glad Wiki polices image copyright, and they make the system amazingly easy given the complexity of the laws. But no-one's immune to error. I'll keep hunting. Alastair Haines 23:36, 11 October 2007 (UTC)
- Researching Akhkharu atm. I think modern writers have done much more with this name than Sumerian texts do. That's fine of course, they can be cited too. Historically, it appears we know akhkharu more from Babylonian versions of Sumerian legends. Nergal (the lion headed;) appears to be their father, he has many citations in Sumerian, but nothing quotable at vampire.
- This is a great question for me, it's tangentially related to what I actually should be doing. ;) Alastair Haines 02:03, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
- Re: FAC. I have several personal aims at Wiki:
- My priority is providing easy access for non-specialists to reliable sources regarding the Bible.
- Also there's widespread lack of knowledge of the biology of gender imo. (I suspect it's a kind of modern censorship, but who cares what the reason is, the info should be at Wiki, irrespective of politics.)
- Here's a rough list of my priorities
- Biblical manuscripts listed, classified, various articles on mss, museums, paeleography etc.
- Theological journals listed, main ones with info boxes, most notable with genuine article.
- Some basic stuff on biology of gender (almost complete now).
- Song of Songs (v long term project and FAC would be expected end of process).
- Personal engagement with other editors so I don't go crazy while being a full time research student working from home.
- Bottom line is, FAC is not really my buzz. BUT helping others get to FAC is (depending on other priorities). Give me a couple of months and I might be changing my mind. Let's have a beer/coffee in Bankstown sometime and chat about Wiki, I'd love to know your perspective.
- Back to akhkhuru research. Then off to Bankstown before bank closes this afternoon. ;) Alastair Haines 02:03, 12 October 2007 (UTC)

About lifting autoblocks
editHi, just a heads-up, I saw you talking about lifting autoblocks on User talk:Orangemarlin. Just in case you didn't know, autoblocks can often be found without forcing the user to reveal their IP address, by using the autoblock tool: [1]. My recent RfA
editI am sorry that you felt it necessary not to support my RfA at this time. As you probably know, my RfA did not succeed. I hope I will have allayed your concerns by then, but if not, feel free to comment the way you feel you should. Thank you for participating in my RfA. -- Cobi(t|c|b|cn) 18:30, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

Allosaurus
editIt may be better to start off with Lambey; Allo practically begs for two or three copyeditors giving it a stern look, because of its size, whereas Lambey could get away with a spitpolish at this point. One thing I would like is for more comments on the scale images I suggested at the review page, the one with four allosaurs and the one with two lambeosaurs. I'll check Commons at some point and see if any has any museum pictures of Lambey to add to the second half, which is kind of bare, but otherwise Lambey would be quicker to work with. Personally, I'd like Acro to go first, since it's the cleanest and most complete of those in line, but I would really like Sheep to get the notch. J. Spencer 13:55, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
- I think it's about ready, but it would be good to get the paucidens etymology since the other three from the taxobox have them. J. Spencer 14:12, 14 October 2007 (UTC)

Lilith
editHi Cas,
The work most often quoted with respect to Lilith is truly ancient. It is indeed written in Sumerian which was already a dead language by 2000 BC. Archaeologist have actually found several copies of the old Sumerian story at separate locations. The texts of these copies are very similar.
The authoritative work on the Sumerian primary sources is done by Oxford University and published on their site, with the catchy name — ETCSL (Electronic Text Corpus of Sumerian Literature).
ETCSL provide a list of the original cuneiform sources, and of modern scholarly transliterations (equiv of Chinese pinyin) and translations. They also provide their own transliteration and translation online.
They name the story Gilgameš, Enkidu and the nether world. It is quite clear that the word lil-la-ke appears in the text, several times. However, Oxford do not translate this as Lilith, but as ghost. I believe there is scholarly literature regarding this matter. It is notable that lil-la-ke is preceded by the word ki-sikil = maiden (somewhere between teeny bopper and young woman). Sumerian is not cognate with Semitic languages, so connecting lil-la with LYL, is not etymologically responsible.
To keep the fun in the vampire article, and yet interact with the ancient sources reliably, we will need to be creative. In other words, without labouring the point, the etymology connecting the Lilith of some speculative Jewish midrashim with Babylonian mythology via Sumerian is folk etymology, though very wide-spread. I don't have the heart to burst the bubble.
I'll keep working on this. Akkadian language traces are the next step. Still no luck on Akhkharu. :( Alastair Haines 13:16, 13 October 2007 (UTC)
- There is also a medical journal article that considers Lilith legends as describing nocturnal as opposed to diurnal epilepsy. I am not familiar with that medical distinction. His point is that the text refers to something that comes at night and causes weakness. I think both he and the folk etymologists are both onto something. Over time, things like epilepsy mix with legends and linguistic accidents and are harmonized into folklore.
- The 7th century BC Akkadian spells invoking Lilith are a real goer I think. I've got technical troubles downloading the cuneiform. Once I get it sorted, I think I should be able to provide some good back-up for the rough direction of what's already in the article.
- This is actually very closely related to what I should be doing with my time -- gender in ancient near eastern literature. You've done me a favour. :) Alastair Haines 13:45, 13 October 2007 (UTC)
Yay!
editI was stoked when I saw that Kertesz had been featured! Other than Dinosaur, that's the only FA I can really take practically sole credit for. :) Of course, your aid was much needed and I don't think it would've been featured without your help (And Circeus', so he's next on my thanking list). I'm nearly catching up to you muahahahaa... Who knows, Vampire might bring me closer to conquering the FA machine that is Cas Liber. ;) Anyway, again thanks for the help and the barnstar - at least I can say I don't only make Dino FAs any more. :) Cheers, Spawn Man 05:14, 14 October 2007 (UTC)
- Ah, you've effectively got two categories depending on how you look at it. The next article we work on will be your nom Cas. I was thinking after Vamps either Pork or Blue, but seeing as I want to nominate the first ever colour FA, let's do Pork eh since you were keen last I heard? To finish off Vampire, here's what I see as still being left: We need to expand the folk beliefs section for the specific geographic areas, the natural causes for vampires sections and the in pop culture section. Then we've just got to standardize the references as they're a bit mimatched at the moment and then cite everything. After we've done expanding, I'm quite content to go through everything and give it some copy editing and then maybe we can get someone like Circeus in to polish it. Then it's off to the FAC. :) Anyway, there's a debate involving Lilith at the vampire talk page... Spawn Man 03:49, 15 October 2007 (UTC)
- Groan! I don't think it could hold my attention to do the same article twice over so close together - why don't we alternate; it's not as if Vampire's gonna disappear before we get around to Werewolf... Controversy? Where? I never knew Vampire was controversial lol. Anyway... Spawn Man 05:24, 15 October 2007 (UTC)
- Erm, here's my thinking: Vampire (Hopefully my nom, unless there's some coup...) ;), then Pork (Your nom), then Blue (My nom), then maybe something else entirely or Werewolf (Your nom) and then maybe repeat the cycle with Green etc... Spawn Man 08:03, 15 October 2007 (UTC)

PS What sources would a psychiatrist refer people to, regarding sexual dimorphisms of the brain? (Not Freud! Lol.) Alastair Haines 03:10, 16 October 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, that's what I meant, hormonal influences on pre-natal brain structuring and pubertal restructuring have been in popular literature since at least 1990. Genetic results on rats (and now some on humans) have been published this decade. Some of this is behaviourial psychology, others are studies into predelicition to alzheimer's. Baron-Cohen has written a lot about Aspurger's and the putative "autism spectrum". There's a stream of literature regarding DSDs, pandering to a public taste for the exotic, I want to get away from that. Cognitive scientists, neurologists, sociologists, geneticists all write on features of brain dimorphism, but I've wondered where psychiatrists who specialize in this kind of thing do their talking. GID material might be the most obvious focus. Perhaps the field is largely delegated to sex therapists, though that seems unlikely to me in my ignorance. Alastair Haines 11:08, 16 October 2007 (UTC)
- LoL. Fair enough. Wasn't asking your opinion, just for sources. I've done a lot of work on the gender article at Wiki, and I'm still after more sources. It's icing on the cake though, so no worries. Alastair Haines 11:32, 16 October 2007 (UTC)
- Cain and Abel looks excellent to me. Frankly I think its close to being featurable, if not there already. It's just a matter of applying the process. Hmmmm. Thanks for pointing it out. I would certainly help with such a process if someone nominated. Alastair Haines 01:30, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
- OK, refs will come today. I have some house work to do first. Cheers. Alastair Haines 01:55, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
- Well I hope you have a nice family day in this lovely weather. Admin? Hmmm, not sure I'd actually be able to use the "tools". I think there are admins in most projects I belong to. If someone else also suggests, and if I wouldn't be required to be involved in protection or blocking decisions... I would like to make new users feel welcome, and I would like to be the "good cop" for users that get in trouble. If admin could help with those things... Thanks for suggesting it Cas. :) Alastair Haines 02:32, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
- You make a good case. We should be thinking "is there a good reason not to have an editor help with admin" rather than viewing it as an elite police force.
- Ha, ha regarding "robust" edits, serves me right for getting involved in some controversial topics! So much of what I've done has been deleted wholesale or proposed for deletion at one time or another, and by people who know what they're talking about! Rather a challenge, and a bit scary. I suppose I've radically altered several articles myself, but I tend to do it very slowly, with plenty of references.
- I guess the process is a good way of introducing new editors, who care enough about Wiki to have been active contributors, to other editors with the same commitment. I can imagine an RfA re me being a tad controversial, though. There are plenty who would be nervous about Gender, Patriarchy, Boys are stupid and Supersessionism. Oh well, I wouldn't really mind if the result was a "no, or not yet", so I guess it's worth doing. Let's talk again about it in a month or so. Alastair Haines 03:18, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
- LoL. I was trying to think of the earliest reference to Abel as a martyr, eventually I remembered something from the NT. It's kinda funny to say "sometimes viewed as the first martyr", and then verify it by giving Jesus of Nazareth as the earliest attributed source. But it's exactly the right thing to do, and quite cool really. I'm sure he wouldn't mind. ;) Alastair Haines 05:22, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
WikiHow!!
editOMG, you have to come over to WikiHow! The people are so nice over there! Honestly, once you edit there, you'll see how stuck up Wikipedia is. Even Uncyclopedia isn't that friendly. You should totally check it out - I'm thinking of editing there part time... Again, you should check it out. :) I'm pretty happy; but I do feel like a newb there again seeing as I'm the new guy. Spawn Man 08:41, 16 October 2007 (UTC)
- Focus Cas focus! We're not up to Pork or mushrooms yet - feeling overwhelmed comes from taking on too many tasks at once. As I've mentioned before, it's okay to take mental block breaks like I did on Vampire, because then you were there to step in. That's why a two-man collaboration works wonders because we're constantly feeding off each other (Gross but true) ;). Anyway, I'm just waiting for you to finish the expanding so I can copy edit - no point in editing a part which you're going to rewrite again anyway. :) Cheers, Spawn Man 04:07, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
- Lol, a show down's happening at the vampire talk page about the Lilith text. I'd stay well away from there if I were you; I said it was silly and suggested that both sides put their thoughts in the article if they can sourced, but I don't think anyone's listening... Rhino time
editI'm gearing up to start charging through with rhinos. I almost have Javan Rhinoceros in a presentable state (I even taught myself how to make those scalable vector maps, sorta cool, huh? They take longer to create than jpegs, but they're easier to modify afterwards.) I've got a lot of shaping left to do, but wanted to give you a heads-up that the project is incoming and I will soon be begging for your counsel. --JayHenry 16:40, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

- I've spent most of this week polishing it up. Do you see any gaping holes? And if not, any tiny holes? It's short for an animal FA, but as with Pygmy Hippo it's because of the difficulty in studying them. So little is known. (As I get into the other rhinos they will grow and grow in length.) The Thomas C. Jerdon quote is another editor's addition. It's not something I would have added, but I'm reluctant to remove other people's work unless truly necessary (is it?). --JayHenry 22:12, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

- The main thing is to make sure it is all in the singular as this has often been a sticking point at FACs (well, could make it all plural but I don't think it'd be as straightforward). editWay back in July I promised to add something "exciting" to Taxonomy of Banksia integrifolia.[2] I never followed through on that, as temporarily insurmountable obstacles arose. I'm starting to roll it out now :- discussion of phyletics and inclusion of cladograms where warranted. Have a look at the taxonomy sections of B. telmatiaea and B. violacea, and let me know what you think. Hesperian 01:17, 22 October 2007 (UTC)

- I was gonna wait for you to finish before tackling the film section, as I have a really good both on it. Try not to make it too perfect, cause I wanna have something to do lol. ;) For vampire movies I'd include of course Dracula and Nosferatu etc. There's no need to go too in-depth; just list the main ones, say how they've developed over time and list a few well known ones, but that aren't that pivotal. Spawn Man 01:06, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
- Geez, I'm really sick of the fiasco at Vampire in regard to the Lilith comment! I don't wanna rush, but can we hurry things up so we can move along? - You know what, I feel belittled that you're taking Xuchilbara's side over mine - sure argue that there are no sides, but I specifically said that a medieval section was a bad idea. Almost all vampire mythology is medieval apart from ancient and modern. What, we gonna move all our sections into medieval now? Why even bother with a world beliefs section? I'm sorry, but I feel a little insecure when my best Wikifriend start taking orders from an editor with under 1000 edits. As I said, you do the article on your own. I'm tired of it and obviously my opinion doesn't count for squat. Don't contact me over my email. Why don't you let her nominate the article for FAC? And I'm not being irrational; I'm perfectly calm. Just leave me alone. Spawn Man 05:18, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
- My previous comment still stands, but I'm even more hurt now that you don't even seem to care and have carried on without me. You haven't listened to anything I've suggested and have been riding off into the sunset with Xuchilbara, when this was meant to be our project and therefore I thought my opinion would have mattered more. Obviously you don't realise what a big deal this is to me and obviously you consider Xuchilbara more a friend than I. You've sped off without me on the article and I feel left out, left behind, stupid and unneeded. But judging by how long you've known me on here, you probably knew what you're doing would have that effect on me. Maybe I should just edit on my own as how's it going to make me feel on future articles which we're editing when someone else can easily overcommand me. It was meant to be you and me, not everyone else. But you've taken it one step further by not including me so that it's just you, them and not me. Spawn Man 23:11, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
- Alright, so I contradict myself occasionally - no need to get angry. If you looked at it from my point of view then you'd see what I mean. I've suggested things and you've comepletely ignored them. I guess I was a bit jealous when you began taking Xuchilbara's word as gospel - I may not always be right, but I thought I would have earned my place around here with my hard work, especially with my friend. I never complained about how slow you were going - I was just getting edgey because all these other people were coming in and taking over. I didn't get in a tone with you matey, there's no need to go telling me to grow up okay? I want to go and edit the article, but as I said, what use am I if nobody even listens to my advice? Now that Xuchilbara's going around all self-important now, hwo am I supposed to compete? Spawn Man 01:06, 27 October 2007 (UTC)
- I haven't said anything wrong - why should I be scared she'd see it? It's not just that, but the medieval thing as well. I advised against it, as we'd have to shift all the material (Vampire lore is practically all medieval) into the new section and then we'd be left with cheesy "Ancient/Medieval/Modern" sections which would look stupid and remove the geographical aspect somewhat. But no, you pay no attention to my thoughts and decide to go with hers. I'm understandably jealous. Why do I even try? How many FAs do I have to produce to be worth something around here? If someone with 1K edits, no FAs, no nothing, can come along and get people to take her ideas over mine, what's the point? It's like this everywhere in my life - I might as well be freakin' invisible. This may seem small to you, but this happens all too often for me. If you can't understand that, then you never will. Spawn Man 01:19, 27 October 2007 (UTC)
- You're not being very nice. It's got nothing to do with my ego. I'm allowed to be upset. There's nothing I can do with the freakin' article until you're finished anyway. I've added all my info apart from the film/literature pieces, so finish off with your new friend and then I'll edit the article. Frankly, I'm surprised that you can't see how annoying it is from my point of view. But that's just my ego isn't it Cas? It can't be that I'm just a sensitive person that feels insecure and didn't expect his friend to turn coat. Spawn Man 02:06, 27 October 2007 (UTC)
- Sorry for my behaviour over the last few days. I took my frustration out on you incorrectly. I felt a tad insecure and unwanted, but I see now that it wasn't anything big to dweat over. You've done a great job with the article so far and I hope this hasn't damaged our friendship. Apology accepted? Spawn Man 02:26, 29 October 2007 (UTC)
Thanks
editThats my first star, thank you very much! I wish there was something worthy of vampirism in Aztec lore! Theres plent of Aztec monsters/gods that demand blood though, and blood literally made the world go around in terms of cosmology. Unfortunaley, I haven't seen any Mesoamerican/Aztec references actually that suck or drink blood. On another note, I contribute to the Hindu Kali's page and there are references to her sucking demon blood and getting drunk on blood of the slaying on the battlefield. Kali's myths appear in the medieval era of India as well, and maybe we could start on a medieval period section on the Vampire page. The medieval period seem to hve spurred many vampire myths after all. :)
Heeeyyyy - can me make one at WP:Birds, and WP: Fungi? How do we go about it? cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 23:03, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
- G'day, Cas!
- Create a page like Wikipedia:WikiProject Birds/bird articles by size. Ask user:Betacommand nicely for a bot that will automatically add bird articles to the page, rank them by size, and add an icon to the articles that are GA or FA, just as he has done for WP:DABS. Repeat the process for fungus, substituting the word "fungi" for "bird". Hope this helps! Firsfron of Ronchester 23:37, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
- Did you get it, Cas? The page still looks red. Firsfron of Ronchester 13:25, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
- No - was I supposed to make the page first? I'll just get a link on betacommand's talk page. I can't figure out what he's asking for..cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 13:27, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
- Well, it would be a good idea to create the page so you know where to start. It looks like Betacommand was asking for the categories you want included. For example, WP:DABS includes all articles included in Category:Dinosaurs, but excludes all of the articles relating to Jurassic park and anything inside the Fictional dinosaurs categories (because I didn't want them cluttering up our list). For the bird list, you'd probably want to include all articles in Category:Birds and all sub-categories within it, excluding any categories such as Fictional birds, etc. Repeat for Fungus. Firsfron of Ronchester 13:45, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
- Ahh (lightbulb above head goes on) - I'll hop to it. cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 13:46, 30 October 2007 (UTC)

- I've created WP:BABS for you... you've really never created a redirect? I sure hope you feel better, Cas. Get some rest. :) Firsfron of Ronchester 13:53, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks - had a good sleep and feel better this am. cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 21:27, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
- Glad to hear you're feeling better, Cas. Hey, can you do me a favor? "Unicerosaurus" and Massospondylus need inline citations for the derivations of their names. Since you're so good at this, can you add them, if possible? Firsfron of Ronchester 15:02, 31 October 2007 (UTC)
- Will get onto it soon Firs, cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 04:36, 1 November 2007 (UTC)

Avondale
editHi Cas, I've put Avondale Agricultural Research Station one up at WP:GAC, would appreciate if you could give it quick once over and make suggestions. Also when your digging in books can you keep an eye for info on Harold William Bennetts[3] IMHO he's long over due for an article. Gnangarra 02:33, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

Green:
editHmmm, looks like a good starting point. I wonder how blue's going... I've been editing the Vampire in Popular fiction section; however I have a few concerns. You've added a part to the opening of the article about The Vampyre and Lord Byron. This seems waay too specific for the opening and should be more general. Besides, it's almost and exact replica of the text found in the fiction section (Minus the rewriting I've done). It should be removed/rewritten, which I can do with your permission. Also, this section of text in the fiction section is a bit weird and doesn't make sense (Not to me anyway...): "Poldori had earlier composed an enigmatic fragmentary story concerning the mysterious fate of an aristocrat named Augustus Darvell whilst journeying in the Orient - as his contribution to the famous ghost story competition at the Villa Diodati by Lake Geneva in 1816, between him, Percy Bysshe Shelley, Mary Shelley and Polidori. The story was highly successful and the most influential vampire work of the early 19th century." now, I assume you are talking about the Vampyre, but it sounds like you're talking about a previous work before The Vampyre - Poldori had earlier composed an enigmatic fragmentary story.... Could you clarify this? Anyway, will continue through, but we should really get expanding those section in World Beliefs, as it's starting to look like a list of things that seem similar to vampires, but aren't really... It needs to be turned into prose. Cheers, Spawn Man 01:40, 31 October 2007 (UTC)
