need to add complicity of the Catholic church enabling and not condoning the genocide — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.38.155.134 (talk) 22:35, 2 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

Mayan

When modifying a noun, one must use "Mayan". It is a standard English adjective, and is in common usage per the OED. WikiProject essays do not override common usage, nor does specialist usage. We use English, and English uses "Mayan". RGloucester 03:00, 17 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

The Maya form is well established and not purely specialist. Almost all reliable sources use it, and the use of the Mayan form generally flags up a not-so-reliable source. Simon Burchell (talk) 03:09, 17 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
English language demonyms cannot end in the letter "a", and hence you are incorrect. We must maintain the speech of the people, not of foreigners who do not understand our language. The standard adjectival form is "Mayan", which the OED confirms. RGloucester 04:24, 17 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
Please see OED online, meaning 2 has Maya listed as an adjective. Simon Burchell (talk) 13:29, 19 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

With the miscegenation that occurred since Europeans arrived the Iberian influenced cultural standards were introduced, voluntarily or by force, gradually over the following centuries by the predominant Westernized mestizos who always outnumbered 'pure' Europeans. This newly formed biracial group were unsurprisingly able to thrive at the expense of the native population who suffered huge losses mainly due to diseases from Africa, Asia and Europe that they had no immunity against rather than actual casualties from battles and European swords and technology. So it's difficult to completely isolate what took place in Latin America and credit it exclusively to any particular group as it was a collaborative effort from the outset with obviously a strong European cultural slant.
