– There are no other cities named after these. We should name them without the ", Illinois" part because self explains it. It is not really well known so it'll be controversial. Per WP:PRIMARYTOPIC.

If Harwood Heights, Illinois and Norridge, Illinois can't be called simply "Harwood Heights" & "Norridge". then Scottsdale, Arizona shouldn't be called "Scottsdale" and Sugar Land, Texas shouldn't be called just Sugar Land. 120.28.224.22 (talk) 08:52, 19 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

  • Strong oppose per WP:USPLACE. For future reference, Scottsdale and Sugar Land do have the state name in their page titles. O.N.R. (talk) 16:10, 19 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
And the base name "Scottsdale" is a DAB page though "Sugar Land" (2 words) goes to the Texas place. Crouch, Swale (talk) 18:27, 19 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose. The WP:USPLACE guideline is also explained on Wikipedia:Perennial proposals#Remove state from US placenames. The main takeaway is basically this: a majority of reliable sources published nationally in the US would usually first refer to this community, like most other US cities, towns and villages, as "Norridge, Illinois" and "Harwood Heights, Illinois", appending the state as if it was common usage in American English, before later referring to it as "Norridge" or "Harwood Heights" like it was some sort of abbreviation. And always appending the state produces a consistent and predictable set of titles (see also WP:TITLECON), because repeated or otherwise ambiguous placenames are very common in the US, and thus most would require disambiguation regardless. The only cities that do not seem to have this peculiar convention seem to be those 28 or so cities (like Chicago) listed by that AP Stylebook (now if the two communities were actually annexed and inside Chicago's borders like South Side, Chicago, that would be a different story). But take almost all other cities, towns and villages in Illinois -- especially those that are not well known nationally and each have populations less than 20,000 -- and nationally published reliable sources would still refer to them as "[X, Illinois]" regardless of any unnecessary disambiguation here on Wikipedia. And yes, Scottsdale and Sugar Land comply with WP:USPLACE and do use the state name in their page titles. Zzyzx11 (talk) 16:35, 19 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • As already noted USPLACE says its common usage and should be kept as it even though I personally think its a good idea. Crouch, Swale (talk) 17:16, 19 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
    Well, so you're leaning on a weak oppose. 120.28.224.22 (talk) 18:13, 19 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
I've struck the above comment. The OP should not vote on his/her own proposal, nor should he/she add a !vote on behalf of another user. 162 etc. (talk) 18:21, 19 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
I'm unsure but I know this RM will not be successful so I'm not offering a !vote either way. Crouch, Swale (talk) 18:27, 19 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
