MD file format?

edit

It appears that "MD Data" has nothing to do with the MD file format (*.MD file extension)--is that correct? The MD file format appears to be compressed audio or compressed audio & video, used on some cameras and cell phones. Is there an article for it? Monado (talk) 16:54, 19 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

MD DataMD DATA – The official spelling of the format by Sony in both Japanese and English is with all the letters capitalized. Sony offcially spells it "MD DATA" so this change is just to match the official formatting that Sony uses for it. Here is an example in a document in English and one in Japanese. It is also used in all caps by others Japanese manufactuers like Yamaha seen here. AquilaXIII (talk) 08:41, 1 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

MD Data 2

edit

The information provided on this page and the main Minidisc page about MD Data2 are wrong. It lists several different products that used the format but I checked the manuals of each product and found that none of them used MD Data2 but just the original MD DATA. MD DATA drives could not play MD Data2 discs at all and needed their own unique drive since it was different, similar to Hi-MD. Here are the manuals: www.manualslib.com/manual/721214/Sony-Mdm-X4.html#manual Sony MDM-X4, manualslib.com/manual/708275/Tascam-564-Digital-Portastudio.html#manual Tascam 564, Yamaha MD8, Yamaha MD4, and manualslib.com/manual/341283/Yamaha-Md4s.html#manual Yamaha MD4S. It seems the only product that ever used the MD Data2 format was the Sony DCM-M1. If anyone can find out any other information that contradicts this then please let us know so we can update it.
