The Alpini are not made up of infantry and artillery. The Alpini are just mountain infantry and as such belong to the infantry, as the bersaglieri, grenadiers or paras do. The mountain artillery belongs to the artillery (as AAA, armoured or field artillery). For a period of time (WW2), italian mountain artillery was called artiglieria alpina, but even then was not part of the alpini or the infantry in general. Mountain artillery is called artiglieria da montagna. Both mountain artillery and mountain infantry (alpini) form the mountain troops (truppe alpine) and that is why their HQ in Bolzano is called comando truppe alpine and not "Comando Alpini" or something like that.190.56.41.26 21:08, 10 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

If you want to discuss something, you hould get a wikipedia account, because without, it is really difficult to answer you. Yes indeed the Alpini are a Infantry unit and I surely know, as I served in the ComAlp. But we decided to go with the follwoing homepage of the Italian Army: http://www.esercito.difesa.it/root/unita2_sez/arma_ftr_rgt_alp.asp which list all the active Alpini regiments and also all other regiments that carry the green collar insignis (Fiamme Verdi), including the 3 Artillery Regiments too. Therefore we will bring all these units together in the Alpini Portal. Besides- I'm sure that all the veci (former soldiers) of the Artillery Regiments would angrily object if we would not include them in the history of the Alpinis. noclador 21:26, 10 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
