Abstract:

A factorial field experiment based on a randomized complete block design with three replications was conducted to investigate the effect of seed priming and soil application of humic acid on the growth and yield of Roselle (Hibiscus sabdariffa L.). The research was carried out in Farm Research of Shirvan Faculty of Agriculture in ۲۰۲۰. Experimental factors included seed priming with three levels of humic acid (۰ (P۱), ۲.۵g/l (P۲) and ۵g/l (P۳)) and two levels of humic acid soil application (۰ (S۱) and ۶ liters per hectare humic acid (S۲)). The results of the statistics analysis showed that the application of humic acid (both seed priming and soil application) significantly increased the growth traits and yield of Roselle plants compared to non-humic acid-treated plants (P۱S۱). Plants treated with P۳S۲ significantly had the highest plant height (۱۶۷.۳ cm), number of branches per plant (۹.۸), number of leaves per plant (۸۱), leaf dry weight (۳۴ g/m۲), leaf area index (۵.۲), calyx yield (۵۳.۳ g/m۲), number of seeds per plant (۸۸۲), seed yield (۱۲۸۱ kg/ha) and biological yield (۴۲۳۰ kg/ha). However, non-humic acid-treated plants (P۱S۱) had the lowest plant height (۱۳۳.۵cm), number of branches per plant (۶.۷), number of leaves per plant (۴۶), leaf dry weight (۱۸.۷ g/m۲), leaf area index (۲.۹), calyx yield (۳۷.۳ g/m۲), number of seeds per plant (۵۵۴), seed yield (۹۷۷ kg/ha) and biological yield (۲۹۰۰ kg/ha). The results also showed that soil application of humic acid had a more positive effect on the growth traits of Roselle plants than seed priming. However, leaf chlorophyll content and weight of thousand seeds (g) were not affected by both seed priming and soil application of humic acid.
