Notes

[edit | edit source]
  1. West Roman army shield pattern (c. 430 AD)
  2. In a U.S. navy book (1882 AD)
  3. Who are to blame for this divide?
  4. This Moebius ring is an enbodiment of Taijitu.
  5. The red and the green are seen; there are unseen.
  6. The Moebius band merges yin and yang, say, the red and blue surfaces, either seen or unseen, hence the 4 quadrants, into oneness or Taiji so that it can serve as a model for quadrant (4-stroke) cycles, say, the speaker's worldview and encoding and the hearer's decoding and review of that worldview.
  7. The slash on the base symbolizes the Moebius-specific discontinuity or joining of twisted ends, which ironically makes up continuity or endless circulation on the other hand. That is, discontinuity and continuity, or yin and yang, mysteriously merge into oneness or Taiji. Both surfaces and both edges at least of a strip merge into another meaningful, insightful configuration thereof. It may well apply to the dialogue and other dialectics, continued! This is an implication of the Moebius band for human interaction in general.
  8. As a general information model, the four quadrants may symbolize or signify
    (1) view, (2) encode (on the part of the informer), and
    (3) decode, (4) review (on the part of the informed).
  9. This may be used to symbolize both the triangle of reference around the subject and the unit conversation around the object between subjects, speaking and listening.
  10. 1 triangle, 2 colors, 3 angles, 4 areas, 4x2 areas x visibilities, ...
  11. Ogden and Richards (1923) pointed out that the coding is not (exactly) the coded, or "the map is not the territory" as per Korzybski (1933), hence the dotted base, the communication gap the decoder or audience should fill anyway. Therefore, Shannon's "communication system" regardless of such a encoder-decoder "communication gap" is simply too simplist. Every subscription to his theory is too reductionist. Our question in point always comes later, regardless of his theory. The so-called "cognitive revolution," likely centering around it, around 1956 as alleged by Miller, is simply an artifact.
  12. The extralinguistic view may be compared to this analogous, infinite spectrum.
  13. The linguistic expression may be compared to this discrete, finite categories.
  14. The far preciser linguistic expression may be compared to this fine categorization at best.
  15. A color wheel based on HSV, labeled with HTML color keywords.
  16. A 1908 color wheel with red, green, and violet "plus colors" and magenta, yellow, and cyan blue "minus colors"
  17. An example of the scintillating grid illusion. Dark dots seem to appear and disappear at intersections.
  18. Simultaneous Contrast Illusion. The horizontal grey bar is the same shade throughout. Check this by covering everything except the bar.
  19. All lines and edges are strictly horizontal/vertical, and fully parallel/perpendicular to each other, but may appear otherwise.
  20. Both circles and both squares are the exact same color: HEX#D18600, HEX#707070. A color picker can be used for verification.
