The Wiltshire Barnstar

[edit]
The WikiProject Wiltshire Barnstar
Please accept this award of the Wiltshire Barnstar for your impressive contributions over several years, especially on parishes and listed buildings. Keep up the good work! Moonraker (talk) 02:06, 5 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Done you a little Wiltshire Start article, as a thanks in advance for an image of Wren's monument. All the best. KJP1 (talk) 11:16, 28 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Good thorough job. Likewise Alvediston Manor. --Wire723 (talk) 12:07, 28 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
KJP1, I have added a picture I took of the bath last summer. Moonraker (talk) 09:54, 13 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Changes to edited article: Rachel Hurst

[edit]

I edited the article about Rachel Hurst (I am her daughter) as the one that was here was inaccurate and she considered it offensive in its use of disablist language. However, someone decided that the version that was already there was better, so they reinstated it. I would be most grateful if, when I have re-edited the article, to one which meets with Rachel Hurst's approval I might add, that it be allowed to remain. MuttleyJed (talk) 17:15, 8 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello and thanks for making contact.
Wikipedia has a reputation for neutrality and therefore discourages editing by people connected with the article's subject. This is called a "conflict of interest" – please see WP:COI.
The factual inaccuracies and offensive language are best addressed by pointing them out on the article's Talk page, and letting a neutral person make the changes. Any material you add must be backed up by reliable sources in the usual way. --Wire723 (talk) 17:37, 8 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The edits I made were based on a CV supplied by Rachel Hurst and at her request, and the article was submitted to, and approved by, her prior to being uploaded — Preceding unsigned comment added by MuttleyJed (talkcontribs) 13:21, 10 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

That's fine but it doesn't let you bypass the need for verifiability of all statements made by the encyclopedia. I'm sure your intentions are good but imagine the case where a malicious person gets a henchman to upload a made-up CV: we couldn't let that stand on the grounds that the subject approved it. --Wire723 (talk) 15:01, 10 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

UTCs

[edit]

There is a lot of material on the TES site that we can use. A lot. The analysis appears to be ongoing- it will take a lot of time to accurately report it- sorry, real life intervened before I could do anything useful. I think we do need to explain why the stats are not simple, and the factors we must consider, pull the article from populist reportage to something that is academically sound. I am watching Medway UTC and the term 'fresh start' and how it differs from normal refactoring. Boring down on the statement that implies that Energy Coast UTC is an outstanding school, because Ofsted has graded it as such, reveals that it is heavily in debt. --ClemRutter (talk) 17:29, 18 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Keep up the good work, but try not to let your dislike of the UTC system get in the way of objectivity. Wire723 (talk) 17:34, 18 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Westbury, Wiltshire

[edit]

I have just spotted that you have done some good work here, well done! Moonraker (talk) 20:30, 30 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Appreciated. History section could be expanded - I limited my time so I could move on to other parishes. Wire723 (talk) 10:24, 31 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Wroughton Wroughton

[edit]

I reverted your edit on High Sheriff of Wiltshire because "George Wroughton Wroughton" appears to be correct. He was born George Wroughton Montagu, his middle name honoring his mother's family, and subsequently had to change his surname by letters patent to receive the Wroughton inheritance. That's a common enough pattern among landed gentry of that age that I thought I'd mention it. Choess (talk) 16:19, 6 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for correcting me. Wire723 (talk) 16:22, 6 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

East Tytherton

[edit]

I added some information to an article on East Tytherton on 5 January which you removed the next day, asking me to cite sources for details of the Moravian Single Sisters' House. Being new to Wikipedia, I hadn't worked out how to include citations. I would like to re-contribute this information, if I may:

Pevsner describes the Moravian settlement and “..the School House, dated 1785..” [1]“The Buildings of England: Wiltshire” built behind the existing chapel buildings as the Single Sisters’ Choir House. Early residents included Leonora Carr and 4 other ex-slaves from Antigua who lived at the Single Sisters’ House in the early 19th century. Leonora is buried in the graveyard behind the house. [2]

The Sisters’ Choir House was subsequently converted into a boarding school, primarily for the children of Moravian missionaries. One pupil was Thermutis Coleman whose son (Rev. Robert Francis Kilvert) wrote the descriptions of local life which were later published and broadcast on BBC Radio as “Kilvert’s Diaries”. [3]. The Sisters’ Choir House has been a private residence (Kellaways House) since WW2.[4]

Looking good, thanks for discussing. I didn't know what was meant by "single sisters" and your 2nd source makes that clear.
The only missing piece is confirmation that Thermutis was a pupil. Her background isn't mentioned in Francis Kilvert and we'll need an external source, since we can't use Wikipedia as a source. Wire723 (talk) 17:43, 7 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Re De Berardinis

[edit]

Hello Wire 723 , it is very sad that you represent wiki in such a negative way. It is because of this my self and other wiki supporters will withdraw our personal and financial contributions to wiki. It is noted that many other have complained about you and it seems wiki has done nothing to resolve this. So please enjoy your little chair and bowl of chips.

Hi Wire723; I've just added some NHLE refs to Chippenham station, and I didn't realise until I finished that you had made recent updates. I didn't intend to stomp all over your stuff, though I think my additions are helpful. Sorry if I've messed anything up.

I have also added a redirect page for Chippenham viaduct; I don't think it's worth a separate article, but it is useful to put it into a number of categories on its own merits.--Verbarson (talk) 19:52, 9 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

No problem at all, this whole thing is a collaboration. Always good to have NHLEs. Wire723 (talk) 20:04, 9 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

James Rodway

[edit]

Hello, many images of the Rodway descendents/family were deleted in the section 'Rodway family' of the James Rodway page. I think these images accompany the text as they show who is being discussed, can these not be restored? GuyanaHistory (talk) 20:17, 26 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The page title is 'James Rodway' not 'Rodway family', therefore the images relating to other people don't belong here. If those descendants are notable they will in future have their own articles, where the extra images can be used. Wire723 (talk) 17:57, 27 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

Thanks for your encouragment on the River Frome, Stroud talk page. I was on holiday in the area, and generally like to update a local article when I am away. Bob1960evens (talk) 11:02, 20 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Wiltshire parishes

[edit]

I'm setting up a project to create all the missing parishes in England, before I launch it I'm wondering what to do with 2 of the parishes in Wiltshire?

 • Laverstock, this redirects to Laverstock and Ford, an article on the CP but it actually describes it as being a parish council (which would actually be "Laverstock and Ford Parish Council"). We shouldn't have an article on the council as well as the village/CP so the article should probably be renamed to "Laverstock" but a move at Talk:Laverstock and Ford#Requested move 27 January 2019 failed partly due to there not being an article for Ford despite the name the council calls the parish. I guess if notable Ford should have a separate article then the move should be proposed again. Otherwise though I think I can remove Laverstock from my list.
Agreed this is a longstanding anomaly. I'll put a Ford article on my to-do list, then we can go ahead with the Laverstock move to bring it in line with convention (i.e. article covers village and parish, while mentioning the name of the parish council). Wire723 (talk) 08:50, 8 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I relaunched the move request. Wire723 (talk) 15:01, 18 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Agree to keep as it is. There are examples in other counties where an article covers a big house as well as the surrounding hamlets. Here, OS has no settlement names, only the Clarendon Park parish name, so there is no more to be done. Wire723 (talk) 08:50, 8 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
There are a few parishes that have separate articles from buildings such as Chester Castle (parish) but most of them don't, see User:Crouch, Swale/Civil parishes/Splits especially given in this case we already have Clarendon Palace. Crouch, Swale (talk) 18:30, 10 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

"Multiple is American English"

[edit]

I don't object to the edit, but the OED lists the word with the sense of "many, plural" from 1662!

 • " W. Petty Treat. Taxes x. §13 Why should not the solvent thieves and cheats be rather punished with multiple restitutions than death, pillory, whipping, &c.? "

MichaelMaggs (talk) 17:58, 11 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Interesting. On the other hand my Concise OED (admittedly the 1978 edition) doesn't support that usage ...
 • multiple: Having several or many parts, elements, or individual components ... multiple-choice, multiple shop
 • several: A few, more than two but not many

Edit summary: (Add abbreviation, rm 1 person with no article)

Pleas reaad the rules how to handle red links. You havee to evaluate the potential a notability. The person you delisted is a notable biologist, a taxon authority, linked from several wp articles. Loew Galitz (talk) 17:30, 25 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Noted, thanks. On the other hand Wikipedia:Write the article first argues against red links in navigational articles. --Wire723 (talk) 17:40, 25 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

Hello, Wire723. You recently removed a redlink from the "See also" section of Hetu. In general, DAB pages should not include redlinks, except when some existing article links to the title, as Jishou University links to He Tu. Happy editing, Cnilep (talk) 07:44, 1 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

My concern is that the 'see also' section suggests places for the reader to visit next, but in this case there is nowhere they can go to. The existence of redlinks elsewhere in the encyclopedia doesn't remove that problem. Let's hope an article is created soon for the notable musician, then all will be well. William Roger Brown

[edit]

You found some very useful additions. I was surprised how hard it was to find good sources. I don’t agree with the citation style being changed, as I see no great merit in the US-based templates that are popular on Wikipedia, and the Manual of Style does not mandate them, but I am just mentioning that. Moonraker (talk) 21:35, 8 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks - I was building on good work by yourself. I'll take more care with citations in future: I didn't realise there were rival styles, instead I thought a machine-readable template was preferable to free text. Wire723 (talk) 07:39, 9 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Norwegian sportsmen

[edit]

Thank you for your help with the Douglas (surname) entries. The link for Quincy Douglas now points to a blank page. The link from 'no' is not obvoius as the link that should be followed. Is there a way that the two can be combined? Shipsview (talk) 16:19, 23 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The way Quincy is shown now is "best practice" according to H:FOREIGNLINK. Another option is Quincy Douglas [Wikidata] but you might say that's not much better. You might prefer no:Quincy Douglas. -- Wire723 (talk) 16:47, 23 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I do! A good solution; many thanks. Shipsview (talk) 09:40, 24 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Halland

[edit]

Hi Wire723. Thanks for correcting my edit to the Halland (disambiguation) page: your edit summary makes sense. How would you feel about a compromise with the following?

All the best, ~dom Kaos~ (talk) 18:31, 4 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

That's the format I would use if there was no link that could be used on the village name. Here, someone has taken the trouble to create the Halland, East Sussex redirect, so why not use it? Then if/when the village has its own article the disambiguation page will still be correct.
Our goal is to help the reader who searched for Halland to find the right article, and either format will achieve that. -- Wire723 (talk) 18:59, 4 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough. The redirect was created 14 years ago and it's been dormant ever since, but hopefully someone will take on the task of creating an article.
All the best, ~dom Kaos~ (talk) 10:23, 5 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Its better to use a redirect for a sub topic if it exists as it helps links to go to the right place if/when it does get a separate article. Crouch, Swale (talk) 11:12, 5 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed. Wire723 (talk) 14:35, 5 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Avon Valley Path

[edit]
The waterlogged Avon Valley Path near Burton

You are right, the source does say waterlogged and you were absolutely correct in making those edits. I do however think they're rather downplaying the issue. The Avon Valley Path near Burton cuts across this meadow and this is what it looks like from around October to April most years. You can't blame them for trying. :) Best regards --Ykraps (talk) 18:44, 1 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I see what you mean. They're putting quite a spin on it! -- Wire723 (talk) 20:10, 1 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The article's been on my to do list for sometime and I plan to add to it as and when the mood takes me. I have some books on the subject somewhere so who knows, I may stumble upon a more 'honest' description. :) --Ykraps (talk) 08:30, 4 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

James Dyson: revision 1140308522 (+ cat)

[edit]

Hello Wire723, revision 1140308522 added so that the Dyson article would be picked-up here: Wikiproject Industrial Design Related changes. Would you mind reverting your deletion? Cheers, Cl3phact0 (talk) 15:53, 19 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

That seems counterproductive: the result will be complete duplication between the 'Industrial design' category and the categories for designers. Better to confine the former to design topics (e.g. User interface design) and use the people categories for the people. -- Wire723 (talk) 16:14, 19 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not very knowledgeable about the nuances of category hierarchies.
That said, my intent with this addition was related to the wikiproject for industrial design — in which the Dyson article is included (this seems to be what adds it to this useful tool as well). My hope was that by adding Category:Industrial design to the article it would be picked-up by the Related changes/Category:Industrial design link on the wikiproject page. This would would make it simpler for editors who are interested in the subject to see any changes.
If there is a better way to do this, I'd appreciate any advice you're able to give (e.g., a way to get "Related changes" to pick-up the sub-categories too). Cheers, Cl3phact0 (talk) 16:08, 21 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
PS: I do see the issue with cluttering the main category, though duplication seems pretty common in the sub-cats too.
For new articles: I visited Wikipedia:WikiProject Industrial design and found someone has set up AlexNewArtBot (under Resources on the right side). This makes several daily lists of recent changes such as this one.
For recent changes: I recommend to add all relevant categories to your personal Watchlist (this is what I did for my own area of interest). There is a Community Wishlist Survey proposal about extending 'related changes' to subcategories. -- Wire723 (talk) 11:03, 22 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

How did you find the Lancaster Student Union source? It's not coming up when I search for 'piri onlyfans' or 'piri onlyfans may' or even 'piri onlyfans 2020'. Launchballer 23:41, 27 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Sometimes it's worth trying more than one search engine. At ecosia.org (which uses Bing's index) I searched for 'piri onlyfans'. -- Wire723 (talk) 09:19, 28 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

As a respected contributor to Wiltshire related articles (as well as many others) I'd appreciate you taking a look at my latest additions to Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service. I want to make sure that what I have added is balanced and not given undue weight or bias. It's a horrendous topic IMHO and widely reported so meets notability criteria, but don't want any personal anger over the incidents to cloud what is written. 10mmsocket (talk) 12:15, 28 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for including me. That's a good summary, and well sourced. Wire723 (talk) 12:24, 28 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Coord template - regions

[edit]

Just a quick note to say when you add the sub-region to coord, you use dash as a separator, not underscore. The latter is used to separate parameters. e.g. type:landmark_region:GB-SWD It's also worth noting that the sub-region does down to unitary authority, not just county - as in Swindon above. You can see the full list at ISO 3166-2:GB. Hope that's helpful. 10mmsocket (talk) 20:55, 3 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Oops, I've been getting that wrong in lots of places. Strange that the unexpected WIL parameter doesn't produce an error message. I changed my scripts (where GB_WIL was hardcoded, in other words when I've been getting it wrong it's always been WIL, no other sub-regions). Thanks for the tip re Swindon. Wire723 (talk) 21:51, 3 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

I see you trying to fix the mess that has been created in the article by Exnihilox. Were you aware that he has now been blocked for sockpuppetry? Anyway, there is probably a good reason to give some consideration to rolling the article right back to where it was before he got involved with his bludgeoning style. Matthew Gould

[edit]

Hi, I've seen you've undone my revisions to Matthew Gould's wikipedia page, citing that he is a different Matthew Gould. He is not - it is the same Matthew Gould. He was Ambassador to Israel and CEO of NHSX, and now he is the CEO of ZSL, which runs London Zoo. I was updating his profile. I am happy to add more news article references in support of this - example here and here and here if you can revert back to my amends? Thank you. Jude

[edit]

Hey,
Is there any reason why Jew cannot be listed on the "Jude" disambiguation page? The page Juden redirects to Jews, and the yellow badges of Holocaust victims have "Jude" written on them as it is German for Jew. BesNutGeb (talk) 10:28, 21 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

My reasoning was that this is the English encyclopedia, so words in other languages are not automatically listed. I looked in Jews and found no usage of Jude beyond a mention of the German word. Wire723 (talk) 11:20, 21 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
On the page for yellow badges, Jude is mentioned twice as it had written on the yellow stars that victims of the Holocaust in Germany wore. Also the page Juif (the inscription on the yellow stars in France) also mentions the word's meaning as Jew in English.
Also, BesNutGeb (talk) 11:37, 21 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The first is an example of the German word in use in Germany. In the second example, my view is that there is no need to mention the French word Juif in the English Wikipedia. Wire723 (talk) 12:40, 21 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I regretted having to undo your good-faith addition. It was unfortunate that the document was published in sections, and the section in question gave no indication of the date.
Regarding attendance figures, have you seen the 2021 statistics -- Wire723 (talk) 21:02, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Suppression of _relevant_ truth about the strange case of the dog that didn't bark is not the Wiki way, It is highly significant that in a 3hr 8min (ignoring intros & outros) docu-drama, ITV neglected to mention the central involvement of its own 7+ yr CEO in the knowingly wrongful prosecution of hundreds of wholly innocent subpostmasters....

Neither is the DT a deprecated source, as could be inferred from you reversion, nor is the article just SM title-tattle. I suggest you study Adam Crozier and DYOR, for example by studying https://www.amazon.co.uk/Great-Post-Office-Scandal-multimillion-ebook/dp/B098GGKMW7 or at a minimum following all the links to pre-2011 conduct in British Post Office scandal before re-intervening in the significance of ITV suppressing coverage, even in this otherwise excellent docu-drama, of the shameful participation of their own 7+ year CEO in the criminality perpetrated against the subpostmasters.

I will leave this on hold for a while to give you time to digest the matter and perhaps educate yourself on it and then either change your mind or frankly justify your position that it is not worthy of coverage. IMO, there has been enough suppression of the truth in this horrific scandal already. In accordance with Wikipolicy, I am presuming absolute good faith on your part, and putting from my mind any suspicion that you might have some latent connection to the litigious Saatchi & Saatchi and Blairite types harassing, in RL, for many years those who wish to bring Crozier's apparent culpability into the public eye. Thanks.Albin-Counter (talk) 17:36, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for not reverting my edit. I prefer to have this discussion at Talk:Mr Bates vs The Post Office for better visibility, so we can get more opinions on the matter. -- Wire723 (talk) 19:17, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
There is material aplenty @ Talk:Mr_Bates_vs_The_Post_Office to which you directed me, awaiting your considered response. You may also wish to consider Womble_Bond_Dickinson, hopefully not for more of my material to shred, but to deduce from its contents that Post Office v Castleton [2007] EWHC 5(QB), referred to so centrally within the ITV docu-drama, was decided in 2007. Vennells' role as PO CEO started in 2010, three years after this case was decided. Who was the PO/RM CEO in 2007, and indeed for four years prior to that, and who authorised the said prosecutions, a very rare event prior to his incumbency? It still doesn't strike you as odd that the ITV drama nailed, by implication, Vennells for this, and omitted even the faintest clue that Crozier existed?Albin-Counter (talk) 04:25, 10 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
In receipt of a legal threat
Declaration: I am a readily-findable person who is in the public eye.
With the greatest possible respect, what if any knowledge do you have of the email I received this afternoon, purportedly from lawyers representing a certain large media company, warning me of the possible legal repercussions of publishing any suggestion of a connection between Mr Crozier (ex-CEO 2003-2010 of the Post Office then including Royal Mail, CEO of ITV plc 2010-2017) and the absence of even the slightest hint or mention of him in the ITV docu-drama? This struck me as a little odd; my contribution was so swiftly deleted (by you), and Wiki Talk: pages are not spidered, cached or indexed by Google.
I have just completed a videoconference with my own lawyer on this vexing matter.
Note, I left it to the Wikireader to draw any inferences, and simply provided objective and indisputable facts about tenures at the PO and ITV, and absence of mention in the ITV drama, despite his central role in 2006-7 when the Castleton matter - and hundreds if not thousands of others - was being progressed, and Castleton's life being destroyed.
I don't need to remind such an experienced Wikipedean as yourself that it is strictly against Wiki policy to (a) move from Wiki-discussions to RL legal threats or action and (b) encourage others to issue such threats or take such legal action. I am equally sure you consider these hard and fast rules sensible. I do.
Having started this matter - improperly and unreasonably IMO, but that's just my opinion - you have gone silent here and in Talk:Mr_Bates_vs_The_Post_Office, provided no further justification other than the (IMO) weak non-sequiturs justifying your original intervention and your deletion without prior discussion.
Please respond, thank you, if only to eliminate one possibility and attribute the sequence to coincidence.
To avoid doubt, I am not easily intimidated, otherwise I would have abandoned this four and a half years ago, and am going to republish here and, in fact, increase not reduce the number of incriminating citations and references, including providing at least a half-dozen of the dozen links I already provided for you to consider in Mr Bates vs The Post Office (Talk), but which evoked no response from you.
Better, you could show good faith and delete your own reversion. Albin-Counter (talk) 17:38, 10 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Be assured that intimidation is not my style. I don't know who you are and I have no connection with the email you mention. You will observe that at no point have I questioned your motives, since I'm sure you are a Wikipedian acting in good faith, just like me.
By raising the issue at the article's Talk page I hoped to get opinions from other editors, after stating my case. Thus 'gone silent' is my way of allowing others to respond. -- Wire723 (talk) 20:31, 10 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the clarification.
If only you were able to know the depth of despair into which one is remorselessly dragged by incessant intimidation/attacks/threats by lying aggressive ****s, some of them solicitors, some of them relying on anonymity, directed at those exposing the endless crimes and cover-ups of the Post Office. Paranoia is the only human defence mechanism against the onslaught. Many others have had it much worse than I have, and yes, astoundingly it is ongoing.
The ITV docu-drama pulls punches. Yes, you read that right. It is absolutely excellent and very accurate but is a considerable understatement, maybe because they had far too much to cram into its 3hrs, maybe because they had to guard against defamation litigation.
It never mentions that the PO crooks successfully infiltrated Bates' subpostmasters' group so they could anticipate and thwart their quest for justice.
If I had my way, which I don't, at least thirty would be arrested, tried, convicted, imprisoned and stripped of their assets.
My desire that ex-CEO Crozier's role in this massive miscarriage of justice and crime receives exposure in the dominant online encycopaedia is wholly free from malice, improper motive or bias on my part. It is simply that anything in this scandal that dates between 2003 and mid 2010 is potentially to do with him and not the appalling Vennells. Albin-Counter (talk) 14:23, 12 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi I had to take out your edits, didn't look as though they were useful. Strath is Gealic for a valley. There is no village or settlement in Scotland called Strath. That was agreed in 2010. Hope that helps. scope_creepTalk 15:39, 23 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You seem to be adding a locations here at the List of United Kingdom locations: Str-Stt which are not settlements. I don't know if it is just settlements on that list but for a settlement its needs at least 10 houses to be valid. It seems to be full of locations like farm names, names of fields, villages that have been destroyed in the past somehow, names of former battle that have somehow stuck, hunting lodges, estate names, but that are not settlements, i.e. where nobody lives. Hope that helps. scope_creepTalk 15:51, 23 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'll respect the earlier decision re Strath. At the lists of UK locations I'm not adding any entries, just attempting to link the ones already there. Those lists were made years ago (not by me) from OS data. -- Wire723 (talk) 16:16, 23 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question

[edit]

Hi Wire723, thanks for you copy editing at Robert Weaver (antiquary). I didn't link Rotherham College because the article for that says it was only founded in 1853 while Weaver attended Rotherham earlier. Do you think they're the same college? Thanks for your thoughts, ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 18:56, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for putting me right – I should have taken more care. I removed the incorrect link.
Subsequently I found a mention of a former Congregational College on Moorgate in 1890 which is likely to be the place. Chances of an article being written for that establishment must be pretty low. -- Wire723 (talk) 19:55, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Request for Restoration of Deleted Wikipedia Article

[edit]

I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to you regarding the recent deletion of my article about Candeias. It took me considerable time and effort to compose a comprehensive piece about my hometown in English, and I was disheartened to discover that it had been removed.

Candeias holds great significance to me, and I believe that sharing information about it in a global platform like Wikipedia is important for promoting awareness and understanding of the town. I meticulously researched and crafted the article to provide accurate and insightful content to readers interested in learning about Candeias.

I kindly request you to reconsider your decision and restore the article. If there are any specific guidelines or requirements that I need to address to ensure the article meets Wikipedia's standards, I am more than willing to make the necessary revisions.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. I genuinely hope to see the article reinstated soon so that others can benefit from the information shared about Candeias. MaxSantana (talk) 19:32, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I agree it's important to have an article about the town, which is at Candeias, Bahia. This disambiguation page has a different purpose, to help people find the right Candeias article. -- Wire723 (talk) 09:04, 22 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Badminton House

[edit]

Hello Wire723 - I hope you are keeping well. By a roundabout route, of the kind that is common on here, I came across the Badminton House page, of which you are the main author. It is presently rather disfigured (IMHO) by a large map, where I would usually expect to see an image of the building. A way around this, without deleting the map entirely, would be to add an infobox. I'm very happy to do this, but wanted to ask you first, as I know that IBs are not favoured by all editors of country house articles. Let me know. Best regards. KJP1 (talk) 09:49, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Good of you to check, but I don't have any special rights over that article. I agree an infobox would give a better presentation of the map. -- Wire723 (talk) 10:13, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Excellent - I'll get on to it. KJP1 (talk) 10:17, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Spelling 'program' vs. 'programme'

[edit]

Hallo Wire723,

I have reverted most of your recent edits to the article ICT 1900 series, so it now uses the short form of the word. I have elaborated the reaons in the 'Talk' sub-page. I hope we can avoid edit wars! Dulciana (talk) 10:23, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Waterloo, Merseyside

[edit]

When changing links from Waterloo, Lancashire to Waterloo, Merseyside, please bear in mind that Merseyside did not exist before 1 April 1974. Therefore links should be formatted Waterloo, Lancashire if the relevant date is prior to then. Mjroots (talk) 12:09, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Good point. I'll revisit a number of today's edits accordingly. Wire723 (talk) 12:58, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I found you attended to those tedious shipwreck articles already. Most kind of you. Wire723 (talk) 13:14, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Access Industries

[edit]

Hello Wire723. I recently posted an edit request for Access Industries here, and noticed that you have in the past edited the Top Up TV page, a related company. My edit request is part of an effort to update and reorganize the History and other sections of the article, including Top Up TV and some other company acquisitions. Would you mind taking a look at my edit request and consider implementing it? I would appreciate it. Thank you, C at Access (talk) 17:15, 5 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Answered on the talk page of that article. -- Wire723 (talk) 19:13, 5 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
