Citing sources

[edit]

Hello, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. I noticed that you added new information to Mariah Carey — we thank you for doing so, but in order to satisfy our verifiability policy policy, we need to know from which sources you got that information. Just adding a link to the article next to your addition would be all right, or you could put it in the article's discussion page. If you need any help, feel free to ask me at my talk page. Thanks! Paris reversion

[edit]

Hey, thanks for your message regarding my WP:VPRF-based reversion of your correct and proper edit. Firstly, thanks for letting me know and secondly apologies for making the error. I missed your edit summary, so all I went on was that it was an anon-IP edit removed a large section of an article. My mistake. Cheers for your patient response, good luck with future edits. Cincinnati Population

[edit]

When changing the population for Cincinnati can you please provide the citations for the links you are getting the data from. We have had some problems lately with the numbers and cites getting out of synch and it makes it easier to verify the changes if you provide your citations when you change it. Thanks pw 04:19, 6 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The page you linked has different density numbers than the ones you added. It is for Urban Areas and Urban Centers, which is a much larger area than just the Cincinnati city. But it DOES have sources, which it cites at the bottom, you just need to click them. As long as these numbers are just based on doing math on the page thats fine, in fact I'm curious as to why the template doesn't just calculate it, I wonder if thats possible. pw 12:19, 6 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I found some more info here: Template:Infobox city#Population infomation. The variable names you were correcting to are actually the old outdated names (the caps ones are deprecated in the table) and they actually have optional fields for metro density and urban density, so it could be split out. I read up on the template syntax, and performing the math in the template itself is an option as long as the proper data is present, I may take a crack at it this weekend. pw 17:52, 7 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Your recend edit (12/18) to the section contains bad grammar and incomplete sentences. Take another look and fix it please. Mfields1 (talk) 10:28, 19 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Flag icons in album infoboxes

[edit]

I've noticed that you've replaced country names in album infoboxes with flag icons. You may have seen this on other articles, but it's not part of the guidelines at Wikipedia:WikiProject Albums; see also Wikipedia:Don't overuse flags for reasons why replacing the names of countries with the flags isn't a good idea. Thanks. Extraordinary Machine 22:43, 9 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Thatchick mariah.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Thatchick mariah.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 10:49, 18 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference

[edit]

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being 'minor'. The only thing that's changed is that you will no longer have them marked as minor by default.

For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. If you are familiar with the contents of WP:MINOR, and believe that it is still beneficial to the encyclopedia to have all your edits marked as such by default, then this discussion will give you the details you need to continue with this functionality indefinitely. If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 19:08, 14 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

A long, long time ago (four and a half years in fact), you made this edit to the album named. While the first two are confirmed, the third one I cannot find. Do you have a source showing "You're The Only Place" on the album? The best Amazon source doesn't list it.

I've just been doing some album research for my mother and decided to get the bonus tracks as she has several Groban albums, but if this is not actually on the album I can't include it as such. =) CycloneGU (talk) 19:59, 3 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Introduction to contentious topics

[edit]

You have recently edited a page related to gender-related disputes or controversies or people associated with them, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have an expanded level of powers and discretion in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures, you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.
