Hi there, the image description page for this image states that you'd like the image deleted. However, I noticed that you've added it to Portal:Shakespeare/Intro. Do you still want the image deleted? If so, could you please tag it as {{db|Creator request}}. If not, could you please tag it as {{PD-old}}. Thanks, JYolkowski // talk 15:22, 12 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I did English Lit, History and French at A-level, probably with some of the same lecturers you've got. Did an English degree after that, so if there's anything that needs looking at on Portal:Shakespeare I'd be happy to muck in. Any stubs or new pages you need working on? Thanks for your offer to serve as copy editor. Actually, there is a huge number of articles on the de-en translation request page that are all proofreading candidates if the urge to edit ever overcomes you. It's always good to have someone take a look and polish the language. I for one, although at just about native levels in both languages, have a really hard time if I have to keep switching back and forth like we do when translating. So please, feel free to pick any and all of the articles listed here and edit your heart out! They're all at the bottom of the page and more are on the linked (from there) archive page(s). Trust me! We can use all the help we can get.  :) Just please keep in mind when editing: we should respect the writer/translator and not change words that are spelled correctly in English somewhere other than where we live (for example, meter vs. metre, stuff like that). Happy editing!!! --Mmounties 19:12, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I like helping other people out. And I always support the newcomers, and I just started a couple of days ago, so I'm new at it. But its fun. And another thing, is I got those two people to join so they could help me out with some firearm articles, so I decided to create a little introductory "speech" if you will, so they can start to understand the world of Wiki. ww1 editing problems

[edit]

I saw the WWI page and in one paragraph, the content was modified so that very sexual content was put into the page.

Ie: Historians and scholars have been sucking a shemale's dick for over half a century...

it goes on. I tried editing the page, but I don't know enough to edit, and whenever I hit any button on the text boxes it just scrolls the text up to the top and doesn't let me edit.

I think it should be fixed up asap=)

Hello Mr James....

I..err..actually don't know what to say....but your site is the planet of history itself!

Actually, i am a long time reader, and i love to read about history or just save whatever information in my head, because i have a very strong memory of almost everything, my father was the one teaching me to read always since i was very little, and now, i can't even sleep without reading a book, but since i finished all of my books, i have your site now, where i spend hours in reading everday.

By the way, i had many articles and previews about football in many magazines in my country.

I am from Bahrain, in the Arabian gulf, but originaly half Persian, half Italian.

My knowledge is focused on Football and Music, my beloved 2 in life, i can write you official- well writin Arabic topics if you want though, due to my experience before as i mentioned by writing to some magazines.

Anyways, forgive me i know that your a very busy guy, but i just wanted to thank you about about this beautiful piece of art, this site.

Siegel / 911 Eyewitness

[edit]

James

My name is Rick Siegel. Someone posted a page on me because I did a film during the 911 event in NYC. I have become the Zapruder of this century from this. My face is everywhere and fame has been thrust on me. It is not nice, cruel as it were.

The production team created the 911 Eyewitness page and started discaussion as it was suggested for deletion in less than a minute.

You can google 911 eyewitness and get 800000 entries most of which are about this film and me. with rick siegel you will get less, but most about me. I do not need this entry for anything. I want to make sure it is accurate if it is on.

If you would take the time to go to my personal site, the 911 eyewitness site and the Scholars site you will see that this historic film has taken its place. It is not a Loose Change music video tour of other researchers work, it is a 39 minutes of raw footage of the event followed by simple physics and barely any conclusions - we leave that to the viewer. It has already won awards in only 3 months. This spring and summer I am doing radio and TV all over the country. April 10 I do start with the Coast to Coast radio show. Please read the comments already on this and help?

Mabey you can change the page to read Rick Siegel instead of Rick siegel?

Cheers Rick —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ricksiegel (talkcontribs)

WikiProject Elizabethan Theatre

[edit]

Greetings! I first wanted to say, good work on Portal:Shakespeare! It looks very nice! Since you created it, I thought I would include you in this:

If you haven't noticed, I've been trying to push WikiProject Theatre a bit. Someone on the talk page noted that the project is really very large and I agree. So in order to break up some of the work and concentrate it, I have decided to break up WikiProject Theatre into a series of smaller theatre projects. The first of these is WikiProject Elizbethan theatre. This project, spanning the 84 years between the beginning of Elizabeth I's reign to 1642 when the Puritans closed the theatres, covers such names as Shakespeare, Christopher Marlowe and Ben Jonson. It aims to expand Wikipedia's coverage of the Elizabethan theatre as well as bringing the articles up to a high level of quality (close to or attaining FA status).

This project has not actually been launched as an official project yet, but the 2 main pages have been created on subpages of WikiProject Theatre and can be viewed here. I would like to get some feedback and suggestions before I officially launch the project. Please feel free to become a member of the project if you'd like. Please leave any messages regarding this here and I will watch your page. Thanks! *Exeunt* Ganymead | Dialogue? 20:40, 23 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #1

[edit]
Reach out is a program aimed at allowing users to bring issues that they have had in Wikipedia to a listening, sympathetic and caring audience:
"No one can know how we feel if we do not say. We cannot expect to get understanding if we do not ask for it. No one will dispute that sometimes life's issues are too much for one person. It is fair to say that sometimes Wikipedia's problems fall under the same heading. This is a place where you can bring the bruises that can sometimes be got on this project for attention."
The Stress alerts program aims at identifying users who are stressed, alerting the community of thier stress and works in tandem with the Stressbusters at trying to identify causes of stress and eliminating them.
Note from the editor
Welcome to this new format of the Esperanza Newsletter, which came about during the last Advisory Council meeting - we hope you like it! The major changes are that each month, right after the Council meeting, this will be sent out and will include two featured programs and a sum up of the meeting. Also, it will be signed by all of the Advisory Council members, not just Celestianpower. Have an Esperanzial end of March, everyone!
  1. Future meetings are to be held monthly, not fortnightly as before.
  2. Bans and Access level changes (apart from autovoice) in the IRC channel are to be reported at the new log.
  3. In the IRC channel, there is going to be only one bot at a time.
  4. The charter requires members to have 150 edits and 2 weeks editing. Why this is the case will be clarified.
  5. A new Code of Conduct will be drafted by JoanneB and proposed to the Esperanza community.
  6. The NPA reform idea is to be dropped officially.
  7. Charter ammendments are to be discussed in future, not voted on.
  8. The Advisory Council is not going to be proposed to be expanded by the Advisory Council themselves, if others want to propose it, they will listen.

When using template tags on talk pages, don't forget to substitute with text by adding subst: to the template tag. For example, use {{subst:test}} instead of {{test}}. This reduces server load and prevents accidental blanking of the template.

Your welcome message

Very nice... but a bit broken. No one can post after your welcome message - your "Click here to reply" box is put over the the next message. ➨ REDVERS 20:15, 29 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've corrected it for you. Hope you don't mind! BTW - you're being very indiscriminate in your welcoming. It's nice, but you've welcomed people who are clearly vandalising and/or have offensive usernames. Nothing to stop you, but it's just a bit weird. Are you going from the New Users log? It's better to do it from the New Pages and Recent Changes logs and just welcome those with at least one edit. ➨ REDVERS 20:29, 29 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well, it's a nice theory (and a nice gesture). But I reckon it'll backfire on you. You'll draw the vandals like magnets to your user and talk pages. You'll get the certifiable and the clueless asking for you to do their homework and where they can post their letter to Tony Blair. You'll also get peeved admins wanting to know why you welcomed someone with a name like Quit blocking people, that's disrespectful and There's no such thing as an inappropriate username who are only here to WP:POINT themselves back out the door. But, as I say, it's up to you. I don't mind what you do... it's just a bit weird, that's all. But nicely so! :o) ➨ REDVERS 20:42, 29 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #2

[edit]
The Barnstar Brigade is a new program aimed at giving more very deserving yet unappreciated users barnstars. It will officially start on 2006-04-09, but signing up is encouraged before this date:
"Here in Wikipedia, there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go un-appreciated. One occasionally comes across editors who have thousands of good edits, but because they may not get around as much as others, their contributions and hard work often go un-noticed. Sadly, these editors often leave the project. As Esperanzians, we can help to make people feel appreciated, be it by some kind words or the awarding of a Barnstar. A project the size of Wikipedia has thousands of editors, so there are plenty of people out there who deserve recognition, one just has to find them. The object of this program is not to flood editors with Barnstars, but to seek out people who deserve them, and make them feel appreciated."
The Stress alerts program aims at identifying users who are stressed, alerting the community of thier stress and works in tandem with the Stressbusters at trying to identify causes of stress and eliminating them.
Information
Welcome to the second issue of the new format Esperanza Newsletter - we hope you still like it! This week, it was delivered diligently by our new dogsbody. MiszaBot (run by Misza13): any execution complaints should go to him. Content comments should be directed at the Esperanza talkpage. Thanks!
  1. The next elections: Approval voting as before and, also as before, an previous leadership member can run. Please submit your name for voting in the relevant section of this page. Voting starts on 2006-04-23 and ends on 2006-04-30. There will be three places up for grabs as KnowledgeOfSelf is leaving Wikipedia. Please see the previously linked page for full details.
  2. The Code of Conduct is now ready for extensive discussion! Specific comments should go to the Code of Conduct talk page, discussion of having one at all should be directed to the main Esperanza talk page.
  3. The current process for accepting proposals for new programs has been deemed fine. All Advisory Council members and the Admin Gen are to endevour to be bold when viewing discussion. If they feel that consensus has been reached, they will act accordingly.
A plea from the editor...
The propsed programs page is terribly underused! Please leave any comments, good or bad, on the page, to help us determine the membership's thoughts on the ideas there.

Message from Sbarsky

[edit]

Thanks for the welcome!

I have a couple of questions, if you don't mind...

1) the other day I made a small edit to the New England Science Fiction Association page:

MCFI is a separate legal entity from NESFA for legal reasons. -->

MCFI is a separate legal entity from NESFA, though there is a large overlap in membership.

Then DragonHawk put back the phrase "for legal reasons". I removed it again, but I don't want get into a flamewar about it. I'm a member (and past officer) of both organizations, I'm not sure who DragonHawk (Benjamin Scott) is, other than a New England science fiction fan. It is true that the two organizations are separate legal entities, but the statement "for legal reasons" is just an urban legend.

How do I authenticate that the phrase doesn't belong on the page?

2) How do I change things so that Massachusetts Convention Fandom, Inc. (MCFI) *is* it's own page?

3) Another link on the page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Once_More%2A_%2AWith_Footnotes goes to a page with two asterisks in the title of the book. It is true that the cover designer added the second asterisk on the dust jack, but there is actually only one asterisk in the title of the book. see http://www.nesfa.org/press/Books/Pratchett.html

How do I fix the title of a wikipedia page?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

Sharon Sbarsky

Well, thank you for the welcome I am so glad that I finally created an acount.I was happy that I didn't have to pay for anything. It is so good that I can find a website that can give me info and that is totally free that doesn't come around often.I really needed an acpunt because I have so many prjects and the first thing I do is go to wikipedia.co and enter the subject/person and I get it sometimes I don't find it but I still can add new stuff this website that is so cool.

more about NESFA

[edit]

OK. I'll try try one of the talk pages if the article gets changed again.

I don't quite understand about making a separate artivle for MCGI, but I'll give it a try.

Yes, the book is peculiar. It's a Pratchett book. :-) We realize that the book cover has two asterisks, but that was becuase the cover designer did that and there wasn't enough time to correct it before going to press. The NESFA Press web pages refer to the book with one asterisk, and the actual title page of the book has none. See: http://i2.ebayimg.com/02/i/06/3d/59/c8_1_b.JPG for an example.

So either none or one asterisk is correct. Wikipedia is the only place that uses two.

As I said I'm a member of NESFA and part of NESFA Press. The publishers are normally authoratative on the publications, aren't they?

Once More* With Footnotes

[edit]

James,

http://lists.nesfa.org/pipermail/press-announce/2004/000003.html

is the online announcement of the books that was published for Noreascon 4. Is this good enough for the verification? Note that it only has one asterisk.

We *are* somewhat flexable. No asterisk at all is OK, or one next two either More or With (as in the Press Release), it's just two asterisks that is wrong.

Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #3

[edit]
The Administrator Coaching program is a program aimed at preparing Wikipedians for Adminship or helping them understand the intricacies of Wikipedia better. Recently, changes have been made to the requirements of coachees. Please review them before requesting this service.
This would be something like the Welcoming Committee, but for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. Some might like suggestions about how to learn vandal patrol, or mentoring on taking an article to featured status, or guidance with a proposal they plan to make at the Village Pump, for example. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.
The Stressbusters are a subset of Esperanza aiming to investigate the causes of stress. New eyes on the situation are always welcome!
Note from the editor
As always, MiszaBot handled this delivery. Thank you! Also, congratulations go to Pschemp, Titoxd and Freakofnurture for being elected in the last elections! An Esperanzial May to all of the readership!
  1. Posting logs of the Esperanza IRC channel are explicitly banned anywhere. Violation of this rule results in deletion and a ban from the channel.
  2. A disclaimer is going to be added to the Esperanza main page. We are humans and, as such, are imperfect.
  3. Various revisions have been made to the Code of Conduct. Please see them, as the proposal is ready to be ratified by the community and enacted. All members will members to have to re-confirm their membership after accepting the Code of Conduct.
  4. Referendums are to be held on whether terms of AC members should be lengthened and whether we should abolish votes full stop.
  5. Admin Coaching reform is agreed upon.

Hence, it is not violating any copyright rules. The image as well was taken at our lab, and hence, supplied. However, if you do not wish to post it, that is fine! thanks, Jan

Question about new people

[edit]

Hi

I noticed you welcome a lot of new people (including myself). Now i'm wondering, how do you know those people are new? I mean, is there like a special page where all the new people are on? If so, where can I find it? Thanks in advance for your help :). If you prefer, you can leave me an answer on my talk page -Jort227 14:45, 15 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, thanks man. I used your template, and made some small edits to it. Thanks for the help, really appreciate it :-) -Jort227 07:36, 16 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A short Esperanzial update

[edit]

As you may have gathered, discussions have been raging for about a week on the Esperanza talk page as to the future direction of Esperanza. Some of these are still ongoing and warrant more input (such as the idea to scrap the members list altogether). However, some decisions have been made and the charter has hence been amended. See what happened. Basically, the whole leadership has had a reshuffle, so please review the new, improved charter.

As a result, we are electing 4 people this month. They will replace JoanneB and Pschemp and form a new tranche A, serving until December. Elections will begin on 2006-07-02 and last until 2006-07-09. If you wish to run for a Council position, add your name to the list before 2006-07-02. For more details, see Wikipedia:Esperanza/June 2006 elections.

Thanks and kind, Esperanzial regards, —Celestianpower háblame 16:00, 23 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello James!

I cannot find the link that will allow people to email me from my User Talk page. I DO have enough marbles to figure out that I am doing something wrong, but DON'T have enough marbles to figure out what!!! Any advice you can give me will be most welcome.

Don't be afraid to "baby-talk" me.

Thanks in advance,

Peadar

Hello again! Thank you for your explanations. It's taking me some time to "get the hang" (wonder where THAT phrase came from?) of Wikipedia, but I'm working on it--with your help!

Also, how come my signature comes out as red, whereas other peoples' comes as blue?

August Esperanza Newsletter

[edit]
Program Feature: To-Do List
The Esperanza To-Do List is a place where you may list any request, big or small, for assistance. If you need help with archiving your usertalk, for example, all you need to do is list it here and somebody will help you out. Likewise, if you need help with some area of editing on Wikipedia, list it here! Again, any matter, trivial or not, can be placed on this page. However, all matters listed on this page must not be of an argumentative nature. You do not need to be a member of Esperanza (or this program) to place or fulfill requests on this page. If you don't have any requests, consider coming by and fulfilling a few! This program has not been very active, but has lots of potential!
What's New?
In order to help proposed programs become specific enough to make into full-fledged programs, the In development section of the proposals page has been created. Proposals that are promising, but need to be organized in more detail are listed here. Please take a look at what is there, and help the proposals turn into programs.
To improve both the layout and text of the front page, in an attempt to clarify the image of Esperanza, the front page is going to have some redesigning take place. Please take your creative minds to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Front page redesign to brainstorm good ideas.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  1. In order to make sure all users who join Esperanza are welcomed, a list of volunteers who are willing to welcome new Esperanzians is at Wikipedia:Esperanza/Members#Esperanza_welcomers. Please add yourself if you are interested; we want to make sure all new Esperanza members are welcomed!
  2. The In development section of the proposals page has been created.
  3. Proposals page: Some proposals have been moved to the aforementioned "In development" section, some have been left as a proposal, and others have been archived. For those proposals that were a good idea but didn't necessarily constitute a program, General Esperanzial Actions has been created.
  4. Two small pieces of charter reform will be decided on in a straw poll at Wikipedia talk:Esperanza/Governance. One involves filling the position of any councillors who may leave, the other involves reforming the charter.
  5. Until cooperation with the Kindness Campaign is better defined, it remains as a proposed program.
  6. There is a page for discussing the front page redesign.

Theanks for the welcome! I really enjoy Wikipedia.

Program Feature: Barnstar Brigade
Here in Wikipedia there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go unappreciated. One occasionally comes across editors who have thousands of good edits, but because they may not get around as much as others, their contributions and hard work often go unnoticed. As Esperanzians we can help to make people feel appreciated, be it by some kind words or the awarding of a Barnstar. This is where the Barnstar Brigade comes in. The object of this program is to seek out the people which deserve a Barnstar, and help them feel appreciated. With your help, we can recognize more dedicated editors!
What's New?
September elections are upon us! Anyone wishing to be a part of the Advisory Council may list themselves as a candidate from 18 September until 24 September, with the voting taking place from 25 September to 30 September. Those who wish to help with the election staff should also list themselves!
Appreciation Week, a program currently in development, now has its own subpage! Share your good ideas on how to make it awesome there!
The Esperanza front page has been redesigned! Many thanks to all who worked hard on it.

Leicester Tigers

[edit]

I've seen your work on the former Leicester Tigers page and you changing the name to Leicester Football club. I understand your reasons behind doing this as it is the real name, but the purpose in the beginning of the page, was that it be called Leicester Tigers as, firstly that is the name they compete under and secondly and most importantly, that it doesn't clash with the Leicester City f.C page. So for these reasons I believe it should return to it's previous name of Leicester Tigers.

Program Feature: Admin Coaching (needs coaches!)
Admin Coaching needs coaches!!! If you are an administrator, or even a generally experienced user, do consider signing up to be a coach.

Admin Coaching, now being coordinated by HighwayCello, is a program for people who want help learning some of the more subtle aspects of Wikipedia policy and culture. People are matched with experienced users who are willing to offer coaching. The program is designed for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.

What's New?
The Tutorial Drive is a new Esperanza program! In an effort to make complicated processes on Wikipedia easier for everyone, Esperanza working to create and compile a list of tutorials about processes here on Wikipedia. Consider writing one!
A discussion on how Esperanza relates to the encyclopedia has been started; please add your thoughts.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  • The list of proposed programs has been updated, with some proposals being archived.
  • There is now a new program: the Tutorial Drive! Consider writing a tutorial on something you are good at doing on Wikipedia.
  • The suggestion of adding a cohesive look to all the Esperanza pages is being considered; join the discussion if you are interested!
  • In order to make a useful interlanguage welcome template, those involved in translation projects will be asked what English Wikipedia policies are most important and confusing to editors coming from other language Wikipedias.
  • A discussion of Esperanza's role in Wikipedia is being held, with all thoughts of all Esperanzians wanted!
  • Shreshth91 informed everyone that he will be leaving the Esperanza council as life is rather busy; his spot will be filled by the runner up from the last election, HighwayCello.

What's the Wikipedia policy on references that need a subscription?

[edit]

I have removed a "subscribers only" reference to a NYT article and have been threatened by an admin to be blocked. Now, I'm pretty sure linking such articles violate the philosophy of the Wiki. I'd highly value your input on this issue.

The admin added the following quote “Our dear Imam (Ruhollah Khomeini) said that the occupying regime must be wiped off the map and this was a very wise statement" in the lead of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. He gave 4 references, excluding the NYT article, on which I can't find the quote. There's also an ongoing discussion about the validity of the translation [2]. The admin gave me a single warning and called it "last warning". I'm pretty new around here, no any tips/hints would be very much appreciated.

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

Hi

I would like to submit the following :-

' == Ephemeral port =='

IANA has traditionally reserved the following use of the 16-bit port range of TCP and UDP:

1) Well Known Ports, 0 through 1023. 2) Registered Ports, 1024 through 49151 3) Dynamic, Private Ports, 49152 through 65535

The range of port number 0-1023 is managed by the IANA , the remainder (all others) is registered by IANA. These ports are not officially assigned.

Ephemeral port are in the 49152-65535 range.

SUTS

[edit]

Sydney University Tamil Society (SUTS) is a non profit student organisation established under the auspices of University of Sydney Union. It was the first Tamil society in any university in Sydney. It was first launched in May 1991 with only 22 members. It was a dream come true for the students and staff of University of Sydney who felt the need for an active Tamil organisation at the University level. Fostering of Tamil culture and language by orgainsing activities both within the university and the Tamil community of Sydney became the main objective of this organisation. Over the years, membership increased, enabling SUTS to carry out various projects that reveal the heritage and cultural traditions of the Tamils to the Australian community. Assisting new students in the process of settling down in the University environment and introducing them to the senior students for academic support, is one of the basic function of SUTS. SUTS has also promoted Tamil Language and Culture among the Tamil community in Australia.

Martisor ( Translate in Vietnamese )

[edit]

—Preceding unsigned comment added by Kerstinvn (talkcontribs) 23:58, 29 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is O RLY?. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/O RLY? (4th nomination). Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

It is about the conference which was held twice so far in Sarajevo. There is more info to be added of course especially on the second conference.

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Hi could you delete Chun's personal life section- dating sentence? I deleted it last night but somebody else put it again. Chun really doesn't like it. Please help. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Yjeon8 (talkcontribs) 14:27, 8 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
