Phosgene

[edit]

Your contributions to the phosgene probably are much better suited for chemical warfare or such articles. The phosgene article is more focused on the fairly extensive chemical reactivity of this important compound including industrial apps. The practical reason for recommending that you relocate your material is that the experts in the geopolitical-warfare technology dont hang out at chemical articles and so your edits are not subject to useful review. Also your edits would be more impactful in those places. As it stands the edits risk being subject to WP:UNDUE, i.e. an extensive discussion of war crimes and things like that in an article about a chemical compound. Lowell's teaching stint in Iowa

[edit]

I don't know what your resource on these dates are, but Poetry Foundation at http://www.poetryfoundation.org/bio/robert-lowell lists all of Lowell's university appointments, including his teaching stint at Iowa State University under the section titled "Career." And according to their site, he was in D.C. from 1947-1948 as Poetry Consultant for the Library of Congress. He didn't start teaching at Iowa until 1950. But if you've found evidence to the contrary, please cite it. Thanks! Jpcohen (talk) 22:11, 1 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You are correct, my error. My source was a letter by Robie Macauley describing Lowell at Iowa in the fall of 1947, however it was apparently only for a single poetry reading. Cmacauley (talk) 03:35, 2 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Edits in Peer Support

[edit]

You reverted my recent edits in Peer support with the comment "Corrections unjustified and inconsistent with research. Consumer is not equal to psychiatric; Sexual abuse and peer should be linked." These edits were clean up edits, removing redundant wikilinks (always leaving at least one link active), fixing citation templates, and removing the redirects to the newly renamed Psychiatric survivors movement. I do not think these edits were inconsistent with research. I suspect you may have leaped before you looked. Jojalozzo 15:03, 29 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

My apologies. You are correct. Cmacauley (talk) 16:44, 29 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Collaboration?

[edit]

April 12, 2011

Dear Cmacauley,

We can see that you have made significant, and important, revisions to the Peer Support page over the last several months. Before we begin editing the wiki page on peer support with some of our recent research, we wanted to contact you to see if you would be interested in collaborating at some level to incorporate some of the research we are gathering in the area of peer support in diabetes as well as other chronic diseases? Some of which can be found at www.peersforprogress.org

I didn't find a direct link for contacting you which is why I chose this route, but if you would like to work together on this page, please contact me at PeersforProgress@aafp.org as we will begin updating the page in the next month or two.

Regards, Kevin Helm Assistant Director, Peers for Progress

Peer Mentoring

[edit]

Hello CMacauley-- I see that you are an avid user of Badges, Amazon Reviews, and Wikipedia. I am interested in Peer Mentoring as a research topic. I'm beginning my dissertation in the Sociology of Media at The New School and it is very likely that I will be concentrating on under-resourced neighborhoods, teens, young mothers (under 20), and their trajectory to a "second chance" at college.

Let me know if you have any suggestions about where to begin. The field seems really over-populated with articles (your Peer Mentoring article is an incredible resource for me!). There seems to be a need for research and I'm willing to fill any gaps in the literature that you may have found.

Eleanor Ross Taylor and Peter Taylor Photo

[edit]

Hi CMacauley,

My name is Kevin Dublin and I'm an Editorial Assistant for the North Carolina Literary Review. In our next issue we have a review of an Eleanor Ross Taylor collection and two articles that mention Peter Taylor. I see that you uploaded and have the rights to the photo taken by Robie Macauley of Mr. and Mrs. Taylor on the beach in 1946. Is there any way we could get a higher quality scan of photo to publish in our 2012 issue along with one of the articles? There would by attribution, of course. Please e-mail me at dublink10@students.ecu.edu to confirm whether you can help or not.

Thank You,

Non-free rationale for File:Rosalynn Carter at Sa Kaeo 11-10-79.pdf

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Rosalynn Carter at Sa Kaeo 11-10-79.pdf. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Dear Cmacauley,

I'm trying to track down print publication rights for the photo, "Robie with Flannery 1947.jpg" that you uploaded on 2/28/2010. I'm wondering where you found that image, if high-resolution scans could be made, what rights are reserved for its use, and who owns them. Can you help? I can be reached at john.knight@fsgbooks.com.

I have reviewed the assessment request you submitted to the WikiProject Biography assessment requests page for the Karlfried Graf Durckheim article and determined that the article has already been assessed as B-class, the highest assessment usually given to articles submitted to that page. Reversion on Ingles

[edit]

Why?Anmccaff (talk) 15:56, 26 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

"Gantlet" and "gauntlet" are two forms of the same word, as you'll see if you read the article Running the gauntlet. You corrected the spelling in one place only, but the spelling should be consistent throughout the article; in any case English-speaking readers will be accustomed to read the word as "gauntlet", not "gantlet".Cmacauley (talk) 22:42, 26 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
No, "Gantlet" and "gauntlet" are etymologicaly and historically two words, with a good bit of ignorant usage blending them, as one need not read the article to know. Keeping the spelling consistent has its virtues, but so does catching the eye with a deliberate use of a semi-archaic usage. Ive heard english from birth, and read it for all but three years of it, and I've seen both uses from early on.Anmccaff (talk) 23:20, 26 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Yanomami

[edit]

I deleted the yekwana name, but you undid my deletion. So I wanted to point out that the Yekwana are another ethnic group living in the same area of Amazonas. In order to show you this, I inserted the link to the respective Wikipedia article about the Yekwana. There is a long history of conflict between the two groups in the Alto Orinoco area. If you heard the Yanomami calling their halozinogenic drug "yekwana", they (the Yanomami) certainly had a good laugh, but I assume that Yekwana is not the official Yanomami name of the drug. Or do you have a proof? If there is uncertainty about this name, you should give a reference of the use of "yekwana" for halozinogenic Yanomami drugs. To my knowledge the real name is "yopo". — Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.64.59.174 (talk) 08:12, 5 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Your edit did not clarify the point you are making here. I am very familiar with all the ethnicities of Northern Brazil, having lived there for many years. The drug is referred to as yekwana or yakoana in the Xamatari language, and the name also refers to the tree from which it is derived, Virola elongata. Yopo is actually a different plant with hallucinogenic effects, usually cultivated in the garden by the shaman. The Xamatari also mix the powdered bark of Virola elongata with the powdered seeds of yopo, (Anadenanthera peregrina) to create a slightly different drug called ebene. I refer you to Jacques Lizot's book Tales of the Yanomami (1976) to confirm all of this information. I have added a reference according to your recommendation. Please sign your posts in the future. Cmacauley (talk) 13:05, 5 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Cmacauley, well-done ! I learned something, thanks for that. But when I checked for it, I found only 'yakuana' as the name for the drug. Under 'yekuana' you will find many texts about the tribe 'yekuana'. So it is not necessary to say 'yekuana' for the drug, because all the references name it 'yakuana'. I would suggest to delete the 'yekuana', just to avoid confusion with the ethnic community with the name 'yekuana'. Or do you have a valid reference where the drug is spelled 'yekuana'? Then, of course, it would be justified. Best wishes, Jim. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.64.36.194 (talk) 17:15, 5 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

OK, Jim, I have changed the spelling in the article to yakoana, which is the spelling Lizot uses in his book and in his Spanish-Xamatari dictionary. It's worth noting that "Yekuana" is used to refer to the ethnic group only by outsiders; they refer to themselves as Maiongongo. Cmacauley (talk) 17:43, 5 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Well, "Maiongong" seems to be the name which the Pemon (in Brasil) gave the Yekuana (see English and especially German Wikipedia about the Yekuana). In Venezuela they are also called "Maquiritari". They seem to refer to themselves as So'to (people). Best, Jim — Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.64.56.53 (talk) 16:32, 6 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for removing the Yanomami Tribal Butzaki Dance (Butt Dance) section that I added. It was a prank, I admit. John Winthrop Chanler

[edit]

In October 2013 Cmacauley made an edit to the John Winthrop Chanler article adding that his mother was a granddaughter of Peter Stuyvesant. That was indeed her maternal grandfather's name, but this Peter Stuyvesant was in turn a great-grandson of the famous Peter Stuyvesant whose article is cross-referenced. John Winthrop Chanler's mother is therefore a great-great-great granddaughter of the Peter Stuyvesant who is being referenced. 65.196.23.66 (talk) 21:37, 24 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

CI agents

Iwas wondering if you'd noticed that there are lists of notable agent both on United States Army Counterintelligence and Counterintelligence Corps (United States Army). Should we combine?--Jim in Georgia Contribs Talk 15:21, 29 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It would seem more appropriate to merge the two articles, with Counterintelligence Corps (United States Army) as a subsection to United States Army Counterintelligence. Perhaps add a notification on both articles that this is being proposed? Cmacauley (talk) 16:26, 29 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I'll put it on my "to do" list; I'll probably get the notification up later today. I'm beginning to think the whole Army CI "project" could stand a re-work. That's a much bigger project.--Jim in Georgia Contribs Talk 16:53, 29 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Talk:Robie Macauley

[edit]

Hello, Cmacauley. Please familiarize yourself with Wikipedia's talk page guidelines. Your removal of my talk page posts from Talk:Robie Macauley violates the guidelines. Removing other editor's talk page posts is permissible only in a limited number of special cases, none of which apply here. You are not a brand new editor, so you should already know this. Continue to remove my talk page comments, and I will report you at WP:ANI. FreeKnowledgeCreator (talk) 22:03, 4 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Please familiarize yourself with WP:ETIQUETTE.
Assume good faith. My reversion of your edit was because I did not understand how it violated WP:EL. All you had to do was explain your edit, not insult me.
Remember The Golden Rule: Treat others the way you would want to be treated. I did not insult you or say your edit was nonsensical.
Be polite. You could stand to learn more about this.
Civilly work towards agreement. Don't tell me what I may or may not do.
Argue facts, not personalities. My actions were not "nonsensical".
Do not intentionally make misrepresentations. Apologise if you inadvertently do so. Well?
Do not ignore reasonable questions. I just wanted an explanation for your edit. Not unreasonable on my part.
If someone disagrees with your edit, provide good reasons why you think that it is appropriate.
Concede a point when you have no response to it, or admit when you disagree based on intuition or taste.
Although it is understandably difficult in an intense argument, if other editors are not as civil as you would like them to be, be more civil, not less. That way at least you are not moving towards open conflict and name-calling; by your own action you are actively doing something about it. Try to treat others with dignity—they are people as well.

There's a lot more. You need to learn to behave in a civil manner. It's not hard to do. Have a nice day. Cmacauley (talk) 23:04, 4 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I am familiar with WP:ETIQUETTE. I am trying to be polite. The point of my post was to make it clear that under Wikipedia's guidelines you have no right to remove my talk page posts from Talk:Robie Macauley. I hope I have succeeded. FreeKnowledgeCreator (talk) 23:09, 4 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

You were clearly not familiar with the guidelines, but I hope you are now. Don't post insults and people won't delete what you've written.Cmacauley (talk) 23:13, 4 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

You have no right to remove my comments even if they are uncivil, as WP:TALK explains. FreeKnowledgeCreator (talk) 05:27, 5 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Harrypottercat (talk) 08:52, 21 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

can you please tell me why this matieralscience person keeps removing my effort to edit a post on "peer support specialists" role in the work place??? a nd stop the removal of my edit?

I want to post the following: But one of the most important aspects of the role is that the peer and the person served work on more equal footing, not with either one as the clear expert but more as equals, both parties can learn from one another in a more mutual relationship with the flow of giving happening on both sides. This allows the person served to be a giver as well as a receiver and thus aids significantly in the recovery needs of the person served as well as the continued growth of the peer support specialist.

but she/he keeps deleting it

i would be happy to take credit for the edit but i didn't think that was the point on this site, the point is that if my content is wrong others will correct it, but she/he is just deleting it and disrespecting me

the page is not wholly correct for it omits this criticial information

mutuality is the key difference in this role as compared to other 'providers' roles...

why is this person sitting on this pag and lording over it when they have confessed absolutely no expertise on this subject?

i am a certified peer specialist trained in Massachusetts.. and through innumerable studies of the field of serving people with mental health from inside and outside the peer roles that are discussed on this page!~

can you help me with this?...

please?

I can attribute it to myself, and leave my email or something i don't know that these pages must be from published sources, we ARE the published sources, are we not?

Harrypottercat (talk) 08:52, 21 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I can't comment on what another editor is doing, but I suspect the problem is that you have quoted a personal communication rather than a published statement. WP relies on published research as sources. Have you contacted Materialscientist yourself? Try leaving a message on their talk page, to establish a dialogue to determine the problem. If you feel that you are being treated unfairly look at WP guidelines to find out what your options are. You'll find that WP is run by gangs of uncivil trolls who bully other editors at will and do as they please. Cmacauley (talk) 15:48, 21 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Anthony Hecht

[edit]

I saw you reverted my removal on Anthony Hecht. I removed that per WP:DENY (and in a way per WP:RBI): the editor who added it is an editor who edits in violation of an original block (sockpuppet). The master in question is an editor who is thriving on contributing in competitions, taking proud of his additions (along the lines of: I do good, you see, my edits stand). I will deny any recognition of his edits until they return to their own account and return to regular editing (if that will ever happen). I am even considering to revdel their revisions. The current sock is the second sock that participated in the Women in Red World Contest. --Dirk Beetstra T C 07:30, 23 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, Dirk Beetstra, for your explanation. I looked at WP:DENY and couldn't understand why the deletion was necessary; now I do. Would you have any objection if I reconstructed the infobox for Anthony Hecht, since I am not a sockpuppet? Cmacauley (talk) 14:36, 23 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
No objection, the article needs an infobox in the end. —Dirk Beetstra T C 12:52, 24 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Please check sources for accuracy before adding. The old writeup you added had dangerous misinformation that, if followed, could lead to poisoning. Thanks. - CorbieV 20:02, 8 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

S and D image of Portsmouth Works

[edit]

I've reverted your inclusion of the image here because while Lower Shawneetown is in the same location as the Portsmouth Works (mostly), the illustration of the Portsmouth Works does no actually illustrate what Lower Shawneetown would have looked like. I would love to have an illustration to add to that list (and to the article for Lower Shawneetwon itself), I just do not believe this one qualifies (else I would have added it myself years ago as I was the one who created that list and the one who uploaded that image). I do appreciate the good work you have been doing in relation to the subject in recent days. Heiro 17:46, 26 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Ritchie Boys - Why did remove the previous Reference addition?

[edit]

"Sons and Soldiers: The Untold Story of the Jews Who Escaped the Nazis and Returned with the U.S. Army to Fight Hitler" (2017) by Bruce Henderson

The CIA reference is NOT easily available to the common man! The regular printed book is separate and available. This seems a perfectly legitimate source. Previously this article had been cited for insufficient sources.

I am undoing your deletion. If you object, please give your reasons here. Thank you. Kacser (talk) 21:49, 26 May 2020 (UTC)Kacser[reply]

Wikipedia prefers that references be cited as footnotes. You can create a "Bibliography" section, but you shouldn't put book titles floating under "references" without an in-line citation. Of course, you can do whatever you like, I'm just offering a suggestion. I linked it to the CIA website because of the exceptionally detailed review, which I thought readers would find useful. Also, a raw URL is less appealing than is linking the URL to the book title. Readers will assume that there are two separate books, when in fact you are referencing two editions of the same book. Cmacauley (talk) 22:21, 26 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

As far as the user is concerned, they are two separate books. One you can buy at Amazon (I removed the direct Amazon citation!!!); the other you can find only if you are a "spy." But I have tried to follow you as regards a stand-alone ref. And surely the URL is linked to the book???Kacser (talk) 23:42, 26 May 2020 (UTC)Kacser[reply]

If you have no objection, I will relocate your floating comment about the book and make it into a footnote, as per Wikipedia convention. "Linking" a URL and text in Wikipedia can be done by placing the URL in brackets with a space between it and the selected text. This allows a user to click on the text to jump to the linked page, and hides unsightly HTML code. I will link the book title to its Google page like this: Sons and Soldiers: The Untold Story of the Jews Who Escaped the Nazis and Returned with the US Army to Fight Hitler so that people can learn more about the book.
As for your strange belief that only spies can access the book listed on the CIA library page, you are misinformed. The CIA library lists the Harper Collins edition, which anyone can obtain, therefore it is unnecessary to footnote two separate editions of the book, which are nearly identical. I wonder where you got that notion? I should think that, as a researcher at the Holocaust Museum, you would know more about the CIA library. Cmacauley (talk) 03:40, 27 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The CIA reference NOW GOES TO THE HENDERSON BOOK, and a review. I have clarified this in the references. I think we can stop here - please - /* References */ I and another reviewer have been attempting to clarify the role of Henderson's book at the CIA. That version seems(?) to have been withdrawn in favor of the published bookKacser (talk) 12:38, 27 May 2020 (UTC)Kacser[reply]

File permission problem with File:UNBRO Insignia.JPG

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:UNBRO Insignia.JPG. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{permission pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. Here is a list of your uploads. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --Minorax«¦talk¦» 14:29, 31 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I see you've contributed a lot to Captivity narrative, would you be interested in joining a taskforce on oral tradition? Kowal2701 (talk) 09:41, 28 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the invitation. Yes, I would be interested. I'm going through a transition at the moment, but in September I will have more time to contribute. Cmacauley (talk) 00:49, 29 July 2024 (UTC) Cmacauley (talk) 00:49, 29 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom 2024 Elections voter message

[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2024 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:17, 19 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
