Hello, AP1787/archive1, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. Again, welcome!  --OpenToppedBus - Talk to the driver 12:17, 1 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there! I added an {{nn-bio}} tag to the Ucal article. I'm not sure that a single mention of this person in the bible really meets notability requirements, even if it's the bible. Per the article, they get talked to once and never appear again, so the significance of this person is not established. Your thoughts? Regards, CHAIRBOY () 00:54, 14 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I went by the Wikiproject U-Y list. It said it had been pruned so I figured they wanted it on the site. It is also in Eastons 1897 Bible Dictionary so I feel it sould be here. American Patriot 1776 00:57, 14 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not familiar with the U-Y list, could you provide a link? BTW, per WP:NOT, wikipedia isn't a dictionary, so I'd suggest that better criteria than presence in a bible dictionary should be found. If we're talking about Job or Lot or Eve, I can see an article, but someone like Ucal who shows up for half a sentence might not be a good match. Perhaps something like List of minor characters in the Bible might be a better place to put him? Thanks! - CHAIRBOY () 01:02, 14 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I would be happy to provide a link. [[1]] I would support a topic of thaat type. And I am familier of the NOT policy. I asumed because the list was pruned, admins wanted the article. Thanks for your input sir!

Reverted changes at list of television shows

[edit]

Patriot,

I have reverted your edit at List of Television shows because you deleted shows without an infobox. Please only remove shows that have an infobox (it doesn't have to be complete). If you have any questions feel free to ask. --Reflex Reaction (talk)• 23:20, 21 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Why did you nominate it for speedy deletion? Canadianism 01:15, 22 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

image

[edit]

I would like to advise you that the image you nominated for speedy deletion is in fact a commons image, transcluding the image from another Wikimedia site. This explains why it has no history. Wikipedia is also not censored for the protection of minors, so that would be an invalid reason to delete it. -- Natalinasmpf 18:21, 23 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

College infoboxes

[edit]

Patriot, despite my better efforts it appears that I have become the list police. I don't enjoy "warning" other people but I try to do it before lots of edits are done. I truly appreciate your efforts in working on this and other lists. When I created my first list, the criteria for removal was pretty low, but it seems to have gotten higher with each list because the information available is so much better and the formatting tools are as well. The updated album and film infoboxes were only around for a few months when I created the list and that seemed like a basic yet specific criteria that could be applied before we "checked it off" our list.

The same also seems true with the University list. You should check out the template talk for the University infobox. There were 42 different infoboxes. FOURTY-TWO! They have been merged into a standard single infobox with many optional fields. That new infobox seemed like an important criteria before a university could be removed from the list. As far as the revert, I should have only added back the universities with infoboxes other than the new standard. It was easier and quicker to do the revert and warn you. I'm sorry if there was any confusion, I will try to make sure that it doesn't happen in the future. --Reflex Reaction (talk)• 04:35, 19 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Commas and such

[edit]

Would it be possible to put something in the code to have a comma appear after a states name? It looks awkward with Akron, Ohio United States. If not, can this be done by manual means for each article? Thanks in advance! American Patriot 1776 21:33, 10 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You should leave this same message at the [[talk page for the template. While I have been created the list of colleges and universities, and rely on the new template, I haven't really been involved in it's creation and don't know much about infobox creation/modification. Sorry I can't be much more help. --Reflex Reaction (talk)• 22:11, 10 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Kutztown University of Pennsylvania

[edit]

Hi, just mention it on the talk page of the article, if no one disagrees, then either remove it or split it off onto a different article (though it doesnt look worthy of its own article, so in this case just remove it). Try and keep any relevant material if possible. thanks Martin 10:11, 19 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

An Esperanzial note

[edit]

As I remember, the last spam that was handed out was on the 20th of December last year, so I think it's time for another update. First and foremost, the new Advisory Council and Administrator General have been elected. They consist of myself as Admin General and FireFox, Titoxd, Flcelloguy and Karmafist as the Advisory Council. We as a group met formally for the first time on the 31st of Decembe. The minutes of this meeting can be found at WP:ESP/ACM. The next one is planned for tonight (Sunday 29 January) at 20:30 UTC and the agenda can be found at WP:ESP/ACM2.

In other news, Karmafist has set up a discussion about a new personal attack policy, which it can be found here. Other new pages include an introductory page on what to do when you sign up, So you've joined Esperanza... and a welcome template: {{EA-welcome}} (courtesy of Bratsche). Some of our old hands may like to make sure they do everything on the list as well ;) Additionally, the userpage award program proposal has become official is operational: see Wikipedia:Esperanza/User Page Award to nominate a userpage or volunteer as a judge. Also see the proposed programs page for many new proposals and old ones that need more discussion ;)

Other than that, I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and wish you an Esperanzially good new WikiYear :D Thank you! --Celestianpower háblame 16:57, 29 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the being the bigger person.

[edit]

My outburst was uncalled for in hindsight. I would argue, however, that it was you who acted superior. You did so by making a moderate edit without any explanation to the other editors (me and several other regulars) before the edit or in the 24 hours that passed between your edit and my edit. By not leaving even a sentence stating your belief that the use of standardized templates would improve the article, you left the impression that you were a better editors that the ones who watch the article in question. for not having instituted the change already. Always err towards caution and straightfowardness when interacting over the internet. Just some friendly advice from someone whose seen a lot of edit wars start over nothing but hurt feelings. --Ttownfeen 05:43, 12 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. This doesn't change my opinion of the template. I think it looks bulky and obtuse, whereas the "custom" box was sleek and refined. --Ttownfeen 05:47, 12 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Another Esperanzial note...

[edit]

Hi again Esperanzians! Well, since our last frolic in the realms of news, the Advisory Council has met twice more (see WP:ESP/ACM2 and WP:ESP/ACM3). As a result, the charter has been ammended twice (see here for details) and all of the shortcuts have been standardised (see the summary for more details). Also of note is the Valentines ball that will take place in the Esperanza IRC channel on the 14th of February (tomorrow). It will start at 6pm UTC and go on until everyone's had enough! I hope to see you all there! Also, the spamlist has been dissolved - all Esperanzians will now recieve this update "newsletter".

The other major notice I need to tell you about is the upcoming Esperanza Advisory Council Elections. These will take place from 12:00 UTC on February 20th to 11:59 UTC on February 27th. The official handing-over will take place the following day. Candidates are able to volunteer any time before the 20th, so long as they are already listed on the members list. Anyone currently listed on the memberlist can vote. In a change since last time, if you have already been a member of the leadership, you may run again. Due to the neutrality precident, I will not vote for anyone.

Yours, as ever, Esperanzially,

Hi, I don't fully understand that template either, the only advice I could offer is to see how it is implemented on other pages, i.e. Lindenwold (NJT station) has it as well. sorry I couldnt help more. you could ask User:Phil Boswell, he's a bit of an expert at on templates. Martin 11:16, 18 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re:PATCO

[edit]

Yeah sure, the coding looks kinda like this:

{{Start PATCO box}}
{{PATCO line|
previous= (link next station towards Philadelphia) |
line= Speedline|
next= (link next station towards Lindenwold)|
term1= (link to end on line - Philadelphia)|
term2= (link to end on line - Lindenwold)|}}
{{end box}}

As for Franklin square, i would hold off on that, being that it's closed, i am not sure how it should be added into the line. Let me know if you have any problems.--Boothy443 | trácht ar 21:56, 18 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No no pain, i have delt with pains on here, and a person asking how do to things is not a pain. As fr the coding issue you are missing a " | " (pipe) at the end of the term1 section, you need to make sure thatyou have one either at the start or end of every section or else it will not register the information. As for the addation, i'll look into it, though their might be easier way to do it. --Boothy443 | trácht ar 06:29, 19 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hey i see you got it to work great, i am still deciding what i am going to do with the defunct station status, i more then likely will leave it out of the box hard coding, as it's really only for the one station, anyway, if you want to you can og ahead and do the rest of the work on the stations and what not that you wanted to do, i can just apply that fix later, as i dont see it being a major issue at the moment. --Boothy443 | trácht ar 03:53, 21 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dashes

[edit]

The current policy, at Wikipedia:Manual of Style (dashes)#Dash guidelines for Wikipedia editors, is that you can put the correct dashes or do hyphens—but you can't change what other editors choose. So, basically, a punt. I think it's retarded; the policy should be that you can put in hyphens if you want, but that the correct usage of em and en dashes should be what we aspire to. But oh well. —Chowbok 22:44, 2 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Senator succession box

[edit]

Since your the Standardization Wizard... What is the standard for US Senator Succession boxes? Is it a standard succession box or is it # Template:S-ttl-U.S. Senator? I would appreciate a little help as I'm trying to add the classes to a number of Senators. Thanks in advance! American Patriot 1776 20:44, 6 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

First, thanks for thinking of me a standardization wizard! I'm not much involved with that project, but it looks like that the {{S-ttl-U.S. Senator}} is in more common usage at least for Senators. The only thing is that is one a complicated name for a template. You may want to talk with the creator of page about moving it to an easier to remember page. Thanks for voting on those two polls btw. --Reflex Reaction (talk)• 22:07, 6 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Having read a little bit more, use this succession box: {{U.S. Senator box}}. {{S-ttl-U.S. Senator}}, is a meta template to make succession boxes easier. See Category:Succession templates for a list of succession templates. If you are interested, you may want to read WP:AUM, but only if you have few minutes to understand some of the intracracies of template design. User:Locke Cole may be able to help you if you have any other questions. Hope you are doing well. --Reflex Reaction (talk)• 22:26, 6 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, I notice that you added a speedy deletion tag to this article, with the reason "very general, not useful". However, "very general, not useful" is not currently one of our criteria for speedy deletion. The criteria are intentionally narrow, and I recommend you review them before tagging articles for speedy deletion. However, you may find the {{prod}} tag useful instead. Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #1

[edit]
Reach out is a program aimed at allowing users to bring issues that they have had in Wikipedia to a listening, sympathetic and caring audience:
"No one can know how we feel if we do not say. We cannot expect to get understanding if we do not ask for it. No one will dispute that sometimes life's issues are too much for one person. It is fair to say that sometimes Wikipedia's problems fall under the same heading. This is a place where you can bring the bruises that can sometimes be got on this project for attention."
The Stress alerts program aims at identifying users who are stressed, alerting the community of thier stress and works in tandem with the Stressbusters at trying to identify causes of stress and eliminating them.
Note from the editor
Welcome to this new format of the Esperanza Newsletter, which came about during the last Advisory Council meeting - we hope you like it! The major changes are that each month, right after the Council meeting, this will be sent out and will include two featured programs and a sum up of the meeting. Also, it will be signed by all of the Advisory Council members, not just Celestianpower. Have an Esperanzial end of March, everyone!
  1. Future meetings are to be held monthly, not fortnightly as before.
  2. Bans and Access level changes (apart from autovoice) in the IRC channel are to be reported at the new log.
  3. In the IRC channel, there is going to be only one bot at a time.
  4. The charter requires members to have 150 edits and 2 weeks editing. Why this is the case will be clarified.
  5. A new Code of Conduct will be drafted by JoanneB and proposed to the Esperanza community.
  6. The NPA reform idea is to be dropped officially.
  7. Charter ammendments are to be discussed in future, not voted on.
  8. The Advisory Council is not going to be proposed to be expanded by the Advisory Council themselves, if others want to propose it, they will listen.
Signed...

Patriot,

Sorry, the discussion abou that is under "University Motto." Take a read and see what you think. In general, I'm almost thinking I'm going to have to let this switch happen, otherwise I'm going to have to keep reverting the changes, but let's at least have a dialog about it on the discussion page first.

P,

Thanks for taking it to discussion. If you'd like, I don't have time to work on the box from other university pages that I watch. The University of Nevada, Reno and Sam Houston State's pages still have the old taxobox. Take care and good editing. Madmaxmarchhare 17:57, 27 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please explain your reasoning after change the university info box in the University of Malta page, removing drastically certain content. Maltesedog 07:08, 29 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The Official Name in Maltese was removed from the infobox. This is indeed a pity!! Please include any information which was removed in the article itself or in any other preferred mode but do not leave as is. Major changes such as this should have ideally been discussed in the talk page.. but no worries! Maltesedog 18:23, 29 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Interested in adminship?

[edit]

In my continuing plot to have all the excellent contributors at WP:MEA made admins (Gflores, Bobet)I would like to be the first to ask you if you are interested in adminship. This may be a little bit early because you are not yet at the current standard of ~1500 edits, but you aren't careful you may get yourself assigned the mop and bucket. If you are interested, let me know, I have some recommendations that might be helpful in your nomination. If not just keep what you are doing, you have been doing good work so far and it has been appreciated! --Reflex Reaction (talk)• 21:47, 29 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I got your message, I've just been busy doing lots of renaming. For some quick advice, start looking around "adminstrator" pages WP:RFA, WP:AN/I WP:RFAR, WP:AFD, do some recent changes patrol. Get familiar with how to deal with vandalism. Know what {{test1}} means and when you would use it and the criteria for speedy deletion. You don't need to necessarily do all those things, but you need to have a good idea of what they are about. Most people are looking for people who do maintenance around wikipedia, have good judgement and can interact well with other users. I see all those things in you so far but you may need about 2 months of familiarizing yourself with policy in addition to 500-1000 more edits, but I wanted to give you a heads up if you are interested. Best of luck! --Reflex Reaction (talk)• 23:17, 30 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #2

The Barnstar Brigade is a new program aimed at giving more very deserving yet unappreciated users barnstars. It will officially start on 2006-04-09, but signing up is encouraged before this date:
"Here in Wikipedia, there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go un-appreciated. One occasionally comes across editors who have thousands of good edits, but because they may not get around as much as others, their contributions and hard work often go un-noticed. Sadly, these editors often leave the project. As Esperanzians, we can help to make people feel appreciated, be it by some kind words or the awarding of a Barnstar. A project the size of Wikipedia has thousands of editors, so there are plenty of people out there who deserve recognition, one just has to find them. The object of this program is not to flood editors with Barnstars, but to seek out people who deserve them, and make them feel appreciated."
The Stress alerts program aims at identifying users who are stressed, alerting the community of thier stress and works in tandem with the Stressbusters at trying to identify causes of stress and eliminating them.
Information
Welcome to the second issue of the new format Esperanza Newsletter - we hope you still like it! This week, it was delivered diligently by our new dogsbody. MiszaBot (run by Misza13): any execution complaints should go to him. Content comments should be directed at the Esperanza talkpage. Thanks!
  1. The next elections: Approval voting as before and, also as before, an previous leadership member can run. Please submit your name for voting in the relevant section of this page. Voting starts on 2006-04-23 and ends on 2006-04-30. There will be three places up for grabs as KnowledgeOfSelf is leaving Wikipedia. Please see the previously linked page for full details.
  2. The Code of Conduct is now ready for extensive discussion! Specific comments should go to the Code of Conduct talk page, discussion of having one at all should be directed to the main Esperanza talk page.
  3. The current process for accepting proposals for new programs has been deemed fine. All Advisory Council members and the Admin Gen are to endevour to be bold when viewing discussion. If they feel that consensus has been reached, they will act accordingly.
A plea from the editor...
The propsed programs page is terribly underused! Please leave any comments, good or bad, on the page, to help us determine the membership's thoughts on the ideas there.

License tagging for Image:James schureman.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:James schureman.jpg. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 20:06, 25 April 2006 (UTC)

The Administrator Coaching program is a program aimed at preparing Wikipedians for Adminship or helping them understand the intricacies of Wikipedia better. Recently, changes have been made to the requirements of coachees. Please review them before requesting this service.
This would be something like the Welcoming Committee, but for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. Some might like suggestions about how to learn vandal patrol, or mentoring on taking an article to featured status, or guidance with a proposal they plan to make at the Village Pump, for example. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.
The Stressbusters are a subset of Esperanza aiming to investigate the causes of stress. New eyes on the situation are always welcome!
Note from the editor

Is there a reason why you rv my edits to Teri Austin?? In addition to providing no reason at all, the fact remains that the edits are all valid and factual.

What's wrong with you?? 216.194.2.15 03:25, 13 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Daedalus

[edit]

Read the Daedalus talk page. Its been under heavy discussion. The information was first not from a authorized source. Second, it is presenting facts not yet aired on TV. The section was blanked in order to provide people the chance to avoid spoilers and also have a chance to read them. Alyeska 00:28, 21 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

VandalProof 1.2 Now Available

[edit]

After a lenghty, but much-needed Wikibreak, I'm happy to announce that version 1.2 of VandalProof is now available for download! Beyond fixing some of the most obnoxious bugs, like the persistent crash on start-up that many have experienced, version 1.2 also offers a wide variety of new features, including a stub-sorter, a global user whitelist and blacklist, navigational controls, and greater customization. You can find a full list of the new features here. While I believe this release to be a significant improvement over the last, it's nonetheless nowhere near the end of the line for VandalProof. Thanks to Rob Church, I now have an account on test.wikipedia.org with SysOp rights and have already been hard at work incorporating administrative tools into VandalProof, which I plan to make available in the near future. An example of one such SysOp tool that I'm working on incorporating is my simple history merge tool, which simplifies the process of performing history merges from one article into another. Anyway, if you haven't already, I'd encourage you to download and install version 1.2 and take it out for a test-drive. As always, your suggestions for improvement are always appreciated, and I hope that you will find this new version useful. Happy editing! --AmiDaniel (talk) 02:04, 21 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
