Talk:Somitomere

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Where did this come from? I'm fairly sure it's wrong; my understanding was that the somitomeres form in the cranial end, and somites form along the rest of the embryo. I'm absolutely certain that the loose mesenchyme of the presomitic mesoderm directly organises into somites.

I shall find references.

Controversy

[edit]

The article doesn't mention that the concept or existence of somitomeres is debated. See for example: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2895339/

E.g.

the concept of a somitomere was ill-defined, ambiguous, and latent (only incompletely segmented and nonepithelialized)
