Etymology?

[edit]

The article suggests confusingly that the word magis is somehow derived from Ad majorem Dei gloriam. This doesn't make any sense on the surface of it. Moreover, magis appears to be derived as an adverbial form of Latin adjective magnus ("great"). This basic mistake throws the whole content of this stub article into doubt.

Could anyone more knowledgeable rework this? I'm adding cn tags for now. -- Eiríkr ÚtlendiTala við mig 16:48, 4 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I found Template:Dubious, which seemed more appropriate. -- Eiríkr ÚtlendiTala við mig 16:53, 4 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Doesn't it mean 'more'?? At least thats what my latin dictionary says.. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.106.178.210 (talk) 19:59, 14 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Tone and Style?

[edit]

The article has an overly colloquial and slightly Evangelistic tone and style to it, I think. Does anyone agree? If so, should it be rewritten? Sorry if I am formatting this incorrectly. I am new to this. 138.210.64.18 (talk) 18:50, 7 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You are correct. It also lacks content. So if u have a source or two that describes how and when the Jesuits use this word, I'd say feel free. Bmclaughlin9 (talk) 22:19, 7 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
