Lekach is a sponge cake, not a honey cake. Instead of citing a restaurant guide, this article would be better served by quoting Jewish food historians such as Gil Marks; see Encyclopedia of Jewish Food, p. 1118. Yoninah (talk) 22:17, 22 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Every Jew knows that Lekach is honey cake, it is its defining feature, whether it is a sponge cake or another type of cake. Nobody else makes a cake with this name, so what is your basis for saying it is not a honey cake? Merriam Webster dictionary, though repeating the same etymology as the article, states that it is "a leavened honey cake." --Mlevitt1 (talk) 20:32, 23 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

In fact the source you quote clearly states that lekach was honey cake, and that its lightening with new ingredients and the addition of previously-expensive spices happened only in the nineteenth century; it was only then that lekach came to mean a sponge in a few parts of eastern Europe. --Mlevitt1 (talk) 16:07, 24 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
