I agree.

Somehow, on Wikipedia, you only have people who are atheists, or else believe that any religious claim is to believed, and nothing in between.

It seems highly likely that this guy created Kriya Yoga from books, and then came up with "meeting a 2000-year-old avatar" as a good story to sell it. This is just like ACIM being channeled from "Jesus" and Castaneda copying everything out of old books in the UCLA Library.

When you compare to Ramakrishna or Ramana Maharshi, a lot of the Yogananada/SRF stuff "smells off" and seems to have been influenced by the charlatans called "Theosophy". 162.205.217.211 (talk) 19:46, 14 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Should biographical information from Yogananda's book be included?

[edit]

Should Lahiri Mahasaya's past life be included in the article? The information is available in the Autobiography of a Yogi written by Paramahansa Yogananda. It would then give the reader the reason for Babaji in choosing Lahiri Mahasaya as his voice of spreading Kriya Yoga. --Siva1979Talk to me 20:41, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

So long as Yogananda's Autobiography of a Yogi is cited as the source material, I think that is an excellent idea. Thanks,

I think it's a good idea, too. But I couldn't find that particular reference in Autobiography of a Yogi. I found it in The Path, by Kriyananda, but haven't found it anywhere else yet. Because that's a secondary source, I would suggest finding an additional secondary source just for more impact, and reference both. I'll look myself in other places. ॐ Priyanath 00:11, 27 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well, the reference is here:[1]. It is in Chapter 34 of the Autobiography of a Yogi. Allow me to qoute the paragraph for you;
'I remember!' My voice was half-choked with joyous sobs. 'You are my guru Babaji, who has belonged to me always! Scenes of the past arise vividly in my mind; here in this cave I spent many years of my last incarnation!' As ineffable recollections overwhelmed me, I tearfully embraced my master's feet.

This also reveals to us that great saints DO NOT choose their disciples in random. Everything happens for a reason and nothing in this universe happens by chance (This view is similarly shared with in the Conversations with God books by Neale Donald Walsch). --Siva1979Talk to me 15:22, 27 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks - I was thinking you were referring to Lahiri Mahasya's past lifetime as Kabir, which Yogananda mentioned to his disciples. Yours is a good quote/reference to add to the Lahiri Mahasaya page. ॐ Priyanath 15:53, 27 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Prof. Jogesh Chandra Battacharya

[edit]

In the biography of Lahiri Mahasaya written by Prof. Jogesh Chandra Battacharya, it is stated that the kriyayoga technique already belonged to Lahiri's family centuries ago, before Kali yuga (dark ages). Because of the incapacity of mankind to understand the sutilties of such technique in the dark coming years, it was held as a secret in the Himalayan caves, until now, after the end of Kali yuga. It is also stated that Babaji was only giving Lahiri back something that was already his. Lahiri was the heir to Kriya. I quote Batacharya's book, YOGIRAJ SHRI SHRI LAHIRI MAHASHAYA, chapter 3: "one of the most ancient exponents of yoga was the great sage Shandilya in whose family Shri Shri Lahiri Mahashaya was born. The shandilya upanisad was even older then the yogasutra of Patanjali. That was why Shri Shri Babaji Maharaj told the Yogiraj that the kriyayoga in which he was being initiated was actually a possession of their own" See the BIOGRAPHY section on the YOGANIKETAN.NET website. Little yogi wannabe from S. America :o)

introduction

Dear all, I read all the chapters written in this. And I am fully agreed with your concept because we are also in touch with these procedures of “MAHAVTAR BABAJI” which is taught to our Honorable “GURU Shir. YOGI BHASKAR” in DHAYAN. We are associated with an organization named “SHIVARISHI SWATM YOG” at INDORE Madhya Pradesh INDIA our GURU is also following the path of PARAM YOGI’s of INDIA who done the YOG SADHANA for their better spiritual carrier that is guided by “MAHAVTAR BABAJI”. We are feeling the same ANUBHAVS after fallowing our honorable GURU. We are highly influenced with all PARAM YOGI’s. <sameer bhatnagar>< Gaurav dwivedi>

Improvements

[edit]

Hi Red Rose,

As you know,i changed yesterday few things on the page starting with Baba's photo. This is new to me,so i just went and started to change things.Today i saw page went back to old content so i tried to figure out how did that happen and i ended up here.

Anyways, why not to use better resolution photo?

Also there is more reliable source in regard Baba's life than Yogananda.Purana Purusha by Yogacharya Chatterjee. He was ordered by his Guruji,Satyacharan Mahasaya,to write the book.He claims that he used in the book only those stories that could be verified either by Lahiri family or other senior Kriyabans, those of second generation(like Panchanan Baba's or Bhupendranath Mahasaya's disciples)

So it would be good if we could work on this together and make it even better. Thanks, cheers! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cuyp (talkcontribs) 13:55, 10 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Cuyp. Ok let's start with the better resolution photo but be sure to have it properly centered within the orange background. Red Rose 13 (talk) 03:20, 11 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Red Rose, — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cuyp (talkcontribs) 09:17, 11 June 2015 (UTC) As i mentioned i'm total noob, thus not sure how to center it??Not even sure is this way to reply you,by using edit option! Also Wikipedia is telling me that image doesn't have proper copyright license and it will be deleted in a week?? Could you shed some light on both things i mentioned?Cuyp (talk) 09:04, 12 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi Cuyp, well in regards to the image and copyright issues, I would go to the people who posted the deletion warning. There is a proper procedure for uploading photos onto Wikipedia and they can guide you in that process. Red Rose 13 (talk) 15:20, 13 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Ok,i'll see about the upload. When i do it properly,i'll go on and place the image on the site.If you could center it,that would be lovely! Also, spelling of Baba's name is wrong,it should be Shama Churn, according to His signature on pension related document.I would like to change that too. After that,we'll discuss other stuff. Cuyp (talk) 07:50, 14 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • If you google his name, Shyama Charan Lahiri, one sees it listed for many organizations. I wouldn't change the name here without further research and a discussion with others. In regards to centering a photo on wikipedia, you can look here -[2] and in regards to a copyrighted photo issue you can go here [3]. When you want to learn about Wikipedia details one can google it. Red Rose 13 (talk) 11:32, 14 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I was trying to figure out how to center the image, and i accidentally saved the version i have edited.Don't know how to roll it back. Sorry about that! Cuyp (talk) 09:35, 16 June 2015 (UTC) §[reply]
