African Jew theory

[edit]

I've removed the claim that they are descended from the ancient Israelites. This is a tiny, fringe theory, and per the policy laid out at WP:NPOV#Undue weight, it does not belong here. — BrianSmithson 22:32, 2 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The fact remains that as a matter of PLAIN TRUTH, AROS ARE NONE OTHER THAN A LITTLE GROUP OF IBOS.THEY ARE NOT A SEPARATE TRIBE OR ETHNIC GROUP.I am an Ibo man and knows very well that Aro people are like any other Ibo assemblage .Ibos are made up of many clans. There are so many clans with diverse history.Like Ojebe Ogene clan, the Umu Ochie clan,Ezeagu na umu clan, etc.Aro people in particular were slave dealers and started marying their slaves. In my part of Enugu state Aro people are not regarded as free born. This is because of their intermingling with slaves they were selling. It is a taboo to do that in our area.

In Ibo land generally, every clan have particular traits they are known for.It may be trade ,culture, masqurades, wisdom, military might etc.The Ibos are of jewish origin for sure , so Aro people being and Ibo clan is of the same group. It is not fortuitous to say that the Ibos are the Jews of Africa.I personaly belong to the Ojebe-Ogene clan of Ibo land. The Ojebe Ogene clan is from a man and his wife called Ojebe Ogene. He gave birth to many sons that latter became towns and settled in a vast expanse of land .Some call us the Agbaja people but it doesnt mean we are not Ibos.Among Ojebe Ogene people are, town like ,Ebe,Okpatu Ibite ,Okpatu Ikehe,Umulumgbe,Ukana, Umuavalu Abor,Abor,Ukeghe,Umuoka,Afah and Awhum. The true population of these people are not really known because census in Nigeria is always highly policitised. But it is possible the numberclose to a million or at least 950,000.The culture of OjebeOgen people are still maintained till today.

Fighting between Ibibios and Aro people was just one of the wars that took place in the olden days. There were so many inter tribal wars in Africa. The Ojebe Ogene town of Okpatu fought the Abribas of Abia state and defeated them together with the Nike people that fought along with them.Ancient monumnets to these are still existing at Ajaezi today .That is boundary town or village between Nike people and Okpatu people of Enugu state Nigeria.

The Ibos also defeated the Attah of Igalla and his kingdom that is why you have a lake called Omelu-Igalla today today in Nsukka area.It means like the waterloo of Igalla people. The Ibos also defeated people in middle belt the Idommahs and that is why you see cultural afiliations and similar names for the Idomahs and the Ibos.

The Jewish origin of the Ibos is very distinct for any person that would dare study it.Culture ,artifacts, language similarities ,religion and even similar animals are found to attest to this fact.Above all generations of oral tradition supports the claim.Since Aros are Ibos they are of Jewish origin.Risingsun008 (talk) 12:02, 26 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Aro; The fall to the British

[edit]

Several writers of acient origins and oral traditionalists are of the incontrovertible opinion that all Igbos derive directly or indirectly from the Aros.

Through the principle of AKO BU IJE They [the Aros] wielded so much influence across the entire Igbo landscape influencing the geograghy, culture, religion and traditions of all the peoples. Their influence with IBINI UKPABI even spread to the sea of the south, the Benin sphere to the west and the boundaries of the Cameroons.

In recent coments on Igbo history modern writers of non Aro origins find it difficult to accommodate the supremacy of the Aro in the history of their motherlands and villages. But the facts are obvious - scattered Aro settlements testify to the colonisation of all these areas. Perhaps the loss of this vast empire to the British [1901-1902] and the subsequent post war anti-Aro propaganda via the education curriculum raised a new genre of historians who struggle to disconnect from an Aro past.

There was never any such thing as Aro as THE ONLY slave dealers oblivious of the rest of the rest IGBO POPULATIONS or the primitive tribes of the lower Niger. Although the British succeded in destrying the Aro myth and creating a distaste for the Aro as slave dealers, fact is that a robust triumvirate trade existed between ALL the hinterland and the whiteman. The villages sold slaves to the closest dealers at the closest Aro settlements, these in turn sold to itinerant Aro traders who sold to coastal middlemen who understood the pathway through the creeks TO REACH THE WHITE MAN ON THE ATLANTIC SEABOARD. The Aro did not know the way of th creeks and so depended on these coastal middlemen. Furthermore the irresistible force of the warring Abam-Ohafia-Abriba proved just what the region needed to remain loyal. There was no such thing as the Igbo of the north[Nsukka axes]or anywhere for that matter resisting the Aro untill the Britsh entered the scene and the equation changed. This lead to the new found prejudice on all fronts including historical distortions of varied degrees. Nevertheless the Aro remains the unarguably though the ipso facto civilisation several centuries before the coming of the whiteman. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 189.27.57.69 (talk) 21:20, 29 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
